Germans protest extension of nuclear energy programs and nuclear waste disposal plans, Google hosted news, The Canadian Press:By The Associated Press (CP) – 26 Oct 10, BERLIN — Demonstrators have marched through Berlin to protest planned nuclear waste storage in northern Germany and the government’s continued support of nuclear energy.Around 100 protesters walked to the German chancellor’s office in the capital, surrounding a truck carrying a mock nuclear waste storage barrel.

It was chosen as a nuclear storage site three decades ago, and has since become a rallying point for tens of thousands of anti-nuclear protesters. Movie ‘Fair Game’ highlights importance of whistleblowing

Ambassador Wilson’s wise words to “hold the government to account” require us to aggressively question the double standard for “leak” prosecutions.  Of course, the answer is not to prosecute all “leaks” but to clearly distinguish between leaking (when Bush officials revealed Plame’s name) and whistleblowing (when Thomas Drake went through proper channels to disclose government waste)…..

Hold Your Government to Account And Go To Jail – Government Accountability Project, by Jesselyn Radack on October 20, 2010 ( The Whistleblogger / 2010 ) Last night I saw a premiere of the movie Fair Game, the story of how Bush administration officials ruined the CIA career of former Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, in retaliation for Ambassador Wilson blowing the whistle on the Bush administration’s lies about Iraq obtaining yellow cake uranium from Niger – the reason we went to war in Iraq. At the end, Ambassador Wilson urges us, as American citizens, to “stand up and hold our government to account.” Continue reading

Tanzania could lose precious water, and money, with uranium mining

Water is already scarce there and it would be imprudent to let one company consume huge amounts of water at the expense of area inhabitants…If global demand for uranium were to decrease, the estimated value of these deposits would also drop. Therefore, it is unclear how much revenue uranium mining would really bring to Tanzania……

….the average Tanzanian citizen has seen limited benefits from mining projects while the lion’s share of the profits go to foreign mining companies…..

Take care that uranium mining turns into blessing, not curse, for Tanzania, Daily Nation  By SHAABAN FUNDI, October 20 2010 Continue reading
