BRATTLEBORO — Mishaps at Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant such as the collapse of a cooling tower cell in 2007 and a transformer fire in 2004 can lead to an erosion of public confidence in the safe operation of nuclear power plants around the country.

China, Britain diverge on Iran nuclear sanctions

Beyond Nuclear said it some time ago: “Nuclear power has been kept outside of climate change mitigation mechanisms to date. However, some evidence shows that the nuclear lobby could be preparing its comeback in Copenhagen to have this dirty energy labeled as clean or carbon-free and thus benefit from new subsidies.”

And – lo and behold! Britain’s PM is there spruiking “Atoms for Peace!”. We’re supposed to believe that promoting nuclear energy will, by some magic, reduce nuclear weapons?

China’s President Hu urges nuclear as the solution to global warming. And – he’s even pushing the idea of rich countries financing nuclear power to poor countries, so that they can buy nuclear technology from the rich countries!

Now that really is dandy for the nuclear lobby!

September 23, 2009 The truck overturned around 5 a.m. in Butler Township and crews were still working to safely clean up the mess 121 hours later.

The driver wasn’t hurt, but the contents of the truck spilled all over, causing concern.

“The problem that we have is it’s coming from a decommissioned nuclear facility that was owned by the department of energy,” said Stephen Bekanich of Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency. sing a meter, emergency officials said they found only low levels of radiation in the debris but they worried that cleanup could release higher levels of radiation………..
