Medical radiation to be controlled in new Californian law
New California regulation could limit medical radiation | abc7news.com, Carolyn Johnson, 9 Sept10, California could soon take a major step to protect patients from dangerous levels of radiation. A proposed bill, awaiting the governor’s signature, would add new regulations for the use and monitoring of powerful imaging devices like CT Scanners.The push for this regulation came about after hundreds of cases of radiation overdoses at a prominent hospital in Southern California were made public….
California lawmakers recently passed a bill that will put new safety measures in place, to protect patients from receiving too much radiation.The bill requires hospitals and other facilities to record the actual level of radiation delivered during CT scans and to include that information in the patient’s medical file as well as the CT scan report. Nuclear board to hear arguments over Ga. plant – BusinessWeek, September 9, 2010, A nuclear regulatory board will hear arguments over whether environmental groups can raise new concerns about the design of a proposed nuclear power plant in Georgia.
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board has scheduled arguments Sept. 17 to consider whether it should weigh the objections over the design of two reactors that the Atlanta-based Southern Co. wants to build at Plant Vogtle.
Local environmental advocates including the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League have said that the Westinghouse Electric Co.’s AP1000 reactor picked for the project could be vulnerable to corrosion. Germany, India, France, getting uncomfortable for the nuclear industry

The nuclear resuscitation could be falling apart faster than anticipated.
India has been the big hope for USA’s struggling nuclear salesman, Westinghouse and others. But its new Liability Bill does not give them the certainty from financial accountability – they wanted to never have to pay up, (just like Union Carbide didn’t have to pay up for the Bhopal gas disaster). They might have to pull out!
Germany – Angela Merkel’s government is on the line, as opposition grows within and without Germany, to the continuance of their old nuclear reactors. And the nuclear lobby so desperately wants to stomp on Germany’s success with renewable energy!
France – well, Areva’s and EDF’s the much touted new gee whiz nuclear reactors in Finland and France are becoming an embarrassment with their delays and soaring costs, and the UK is not too keen on their product either. And France was the poster boy for nuclear!
