Title: TEPCO made plans to leave stricken plant
Source: Jiji Press
Date: Aug 20, 2012
“..On March 14, 2011, after hydrogen explosions at the plant’s Nos. 1 and 3 reactor buildings, officials at the TEPCO head office were frustrated with unsuccessful efforts to vent steam from the No. 2 reactor to prevent it from blowing up.
[…]
At the off-site center, TEPCO Managing Executive Officer Akio Komori ordered plans to be prepared to evacuate workers from the plant, which he said would be needed at some point.
Later in the day, what appears to be a TEPCO staff member reported progress in making the pullout plans, including a plan to begin preparations to withdraw 1-1/2 hours before an expected meltdown at the No. 2 reactor and to evacuate 30 minutes later.
The official also explained plans to move to a TEPCO building near the Fukushima No. 1 plant or the neighboring No. 2 plant.
Ten buses were said to be available for evacuation, although they would not be enough to pull out all 850 plant workers at one time…”
NBC: Radioactive contamination in San Francisco neighborhood — 400 times EPA limit found in soil sample — Boys & Girls Club exposed to contaminated dust?
http://enenews.com/nbc-radioactive-contamination-in-san-francisco-neighborhood-400-times-epa-limit-found-in-soil-sample-boys-girls-club-exposed-to-contaminated-dust
“.. [State health] officials have raised questions about exposure for residents of the island. At an August 2011 meeting, a summary shows, the health department alleged that a Navy contractor might have inadvertently exposed children to radioactive dust at a Boys & Girls Club and a child development center on the island.
The Navy and state Department of Toxic Substances Control, a separate agency also monitoring Navy cleanup activities, said the Boys & Girls Club and child center never were contaminated with radioactive dust. They also say that, in general, radiation levels found on the island are too low to endanger human health – only slightly higher than natural radiation found in ordinary backyards….”

last year in May/June 2011 i downloaded a copy of the water quality measurements for isotopes.. i got the base levels but had to wait until May/June 2012 for the data of 2011, to see the difference. However, the report has been “delayed” until September?
So, i searched the web for relevent information and struck gold.

(Part 2 of 2) Video Interview Transcript of Former Plant Manager of #Fukushima I Nuke Plant Masao Yoshida

THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2012
“…Following the part 1 , here’s the part 2 of the video transcript of Mr. Masao Yoshida, former plant manager of Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant.
Again, the occasion was a small symposium in Fukushima on August 11, 2012, and Mr. Yoshida’s video interview was done in July, before he had cerebral hemorrhage.
The transcript is from Mainichi Shinbun article (8/11/2012), not from the video which only 140 or so people who attended the seminar got to watch….”
Qoute here translated by EXSKF by Mr Yoshida
“…In addition to Reactor 1 [‘s explosion], Reactor 3’s explosion made the strongest impact [on me]. In retrospect it was a hydrogen explosion, but at that time we didn’t know what was happening. I thought something catastrophic had happened. About the explosions. I could die, and all people in the Anti-Seismic Building could die, at any moment. It was particularly so after the explosion at Reactor 3. That much debris flying all over. When I first heard that several people were missing, safety of tens of people was not confirmed yet. I thought, maybe more than 10 people just died. Then, more information started to come in, confirming the safety of people, though there were some with minor injuries. And I feel very sorry for the Self Defense Force. The SDF troop came to supply water and they were caught in the explosion and were injured. I am very sorry. One consolation is that injuries were not life-threatening, and I feel as if it was some kind of divine providence….”
Nice summary from the admin at EXKSF here..
“…All Mr. Yoshida said was the plant needs to be made more stable, in a proper way – replacing Kanaflex hoses would be one, removing the debris and clutter would be another – so that the plant’s various operations can run in a smooth, predictable manner, with no accidents like small fires and water leaks, not to mention major accidents.
By the way, this “Yoshida said the plant is not stable” duly came back to Japan as a credible piece of news in English, but it quickly disappeared among more sensational headlines (like butterfly mutation due to Fukushima radiation, for one)….”

Hazuki is the old Japanese name for the month of August. It is a shortened form of Haochizuki, which means “leaf-falling month.” As with many of the old month names, they make more sense when we consider that, when they were in wide use, Japan was on a lunar calendar.
Although there are no official holidays in Hazuki, arguably the second most important celebration of the year takes place this month: Obon. The Bon Festivals are held to pray for the repose of the souls of ancestors. Deceased family members are believed to revisit the homestead during Bon to be reunited with their family. To guide the souls back, a small bonfire is lit outside the house. This is called the mukae-bi, or welcoming flame. Then, the house is cleaned and fruits and vegetables are offered at family altars. When Bon ends, the spirits are sent off with another bonfire, called okuri-bi. Some regions release small lanterns down rivers or into the sea as part of the okuri-bi ritual.

The Friday protest by the Metropolitan Coalition Against Nukes will be still at the PM’s Official Residence, same time, same rules (“single issue” plus one, no other slogans, nothing about radiation contamination, etc.).
But here are other locations near the PM’s Official Residence where people will gather to protest against a host of different issues, FREELY….”

Radioactive Japan: Over 200 Evacuees from Futaba-machi Still Lives in Classrooms, Partitioned with Cardboards!

“….An organization called “Enechen” (“energy change”, in Japanese English) is asking for help so that they can at least provide hot meals to the 200 evacuees from Futaba-machi who continue to live in the classrooms in a closed high school building in Saitama Prefecture where the town’s government has temporarily relocated. They are mostly elderly residents, and they have nowhere else to go.
After nearly 17 months since the accident, the country is quite happy having them live in classrooms with card board partitions…..”
From the organization’s website (8/12/2012): (Translated by exskf)
“..As of August 2012, about 200 elderly residents at Futaba-machi Shelter continue to live in the rooms partitioned with corrugated cardboards in a closed school building, with all their meals in bento (boxed lunch/dinner), 1 year and 4 months since they evacuated there….”

after pressure inside the reactor 3 containment vessel suddenly spiked to alarming levels around 6 a.m. March 14.
The agency then made an announcement shortly after 9 a.m. March 14 — just two hours before a hydrogen explosion destroyed the upper part of the structure housing reactor 3.

NISA told Tepco to delay reporting looming explosion
“NISA officials are blocking any release of information on the matter,” a person who appears to be a head office employee says in the video images. “The agency’s officials are saying that (Tepco) should not be the entity to announce this either.”
Another voice on the recordings can be heard stating that NISA had refused to give Tepco permission to announce the pressure surge, saying, “We’ve been strongly requested, instructed not to announce this.”
NISA has said it kept Tepco’s announcement on hold because officials were unable to get in touch with its chief to obtain the necessary permission.
