The News That Matters about the Nuclear Industry Fukushima Chernobyl Mayak Three Mile Island Atomic Testing Radiation Isotope

15 August 2012 Thousands of Naraha residents can return to homes and businesses during daylight hours

Article posted to World Nuclear News

Another evacuation order lifted

“…The town lies 13 kilometres to the south of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that suffered a multiple reactor accident and radiation release after the natural disasters of 11 March 2011. The town’s border includes a portion of the Fukushima Daini plant that also saw an emergency situation last year. All of the municipality’s 7200 residents were evacuated by the end of April 2011, but the area did not suffer any serious radioactive contamination.

Now, Japanese authorities consider the area safe for daylight visits with no need for monitoring equipment or protective clothing. This means people may return to businesses and properties, a large number of which need serious repair or even total redevelopment as a result of the earthquake and tsunami….”

“..Controls on entry to the area were relaxed at midnight on 10 August by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). It is the fourth revision the ministry has made as it assesses evacuated areas and works towards normalisation of as much as possible. At the same time it changed restrictions at sea, reducing the no-go zone for shipping from 20 kilometres to five. .. “

“..Many residents were evacuated after the meltdown, but by August 2011, approximately half had returned. A voluntary screening program for levels of cesium, known to be representative of total internal radiation exposure, was conducted between September 2011 and March 2012 for all residents ages 6 years or older. Total cesium exposure was converted into committed effective dose (sievert, Sv)…”

“…Residents may return at will to areas marked green to visit and work without the use of protective equipment. The only restriction is that they may not stay overnight…”

“…In the orange ‘restricted’ areas people can carry out specific jobs without being monitored or using protective equipment…

….People entering these zones are advised to avoid doing so unnecessarily, to refrain from working outdoors, to use cars rather than to walk for more than a short period and to wash upon re-entering a building…”

“….The third category of area is known as ‘difficult’ to return to because of an ambient dose rate of over 50 millisieverts per year, which is not expected to go below 20 millisieverts per year before March 2016…”

Critical Alliances: Japan’s Yamashita and USA’s Yanagisawa –convincing the world of radiophobia lies

Critical Alliances” is an article by Fukushima Voice

i have taken some qoutes and added a few comments and links, this is a big story that cant be covered in a simple article. i hope that i have added to the article some valid observations.

heres the link direct to the article at Fukushima Voice

http://fukushimavoice-eng.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/critical-alliances-japans-yamashita-and.html

On August 11 and 12, 2012, there was an international symposium at Fukushima Medical University called “Radiation Contamination and Mental Health.”

One of the speakers was Robert Yanagisawa, M.D., an endocrinologist and an Associate Professor in Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  He spoke through the Internet on “Radiophobia and Reality of Thyroid Cancer.”

“..He established the Mt. Sinai-Tokyo Women’s Medical University (TWMU) exchange program, and has been appointed Visiting Professor by TWMU….”

“..Incidentally, Tokyo Women’s Medical University is one of the hospitals which have put up signs refusing to examine patients for radiation-related illnesses..”

Here is Dr Yanagsiawa giving the oncology philosophy

Radiation Fears and the Reality of Thyroid Cancers

“During the 25 years since the Chernobyl accident, some 4000 cases of thyroid carcinoma and 15 deaths due to thyroid cancer are known from patients aged <19 at exposure. For Fukushima, thyroid cancer risk is expected to be significantly less. First, the amount of RAI released is ~10% of the Chernobyl accident. Second, the typical Japanese diet contains high iodine from seafood. In Chernobyl, patients were iodine deficient and thus predisposed to higher RAI uptake during exposure; similar to patients on 2 weeks of low iodide diet prior to RAI therapy to maximize uptake. Over 35,000 patients followed for 30 years after RAI therapy has not shown any significant increase in thyroid cancer….”

[note he does not mention Hyperthyroidism]

“…These thyroid disorders lead to overstimulation of the thyroid gland and increased production of thyroid hormone. Increased production of thyroid hormone in these thyroid disorder results in a stimulation or quickening of the body’s metabolism and symptoms, such as nervousness, anxiety and hypertension…”

[Sounds like psychological symptoms?]

Similarly, an increase in the incidence of cancers has been reported for atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan….”

Fresh Currents: Japan’s flow from a nuclear past to a renewable future

To concerned individuals everywhere:

We now stand at a critical watershed for Japan and the world – will we choose to revert to the dangerous, costly and centrally-controlled industry of nuclear power, rely on the CO2-producing fuels of oil and coal, or embrace the exciting new possibilities of decentralized renewable energy technologies?

Living only 60 kilometers from the Oi nuclear power plant (reopened in June amidst growing protests across the country), we felt compelled to add something positive to the growing movement towards a sustainable energy future. *Fresh Currents* was put together from a network of writers associated with *Kyoto Journal,* an NPO based in Kyoto that has been publishing in print and digitally for over 25 years. This book would not have been possible without the kind donations of people who visited our Indiegogo campaign or the incredibly hard work of all the volunteer writers, translators, photographers, designers and illustrators. We deeply thank everyone who has been or who will be a part of our project!

Please download your complimentary digital copy of *Fresh Currents,*

our book on Fukushima and Japan’s energy future, HERE….

A print edition will be available at the end of September (¥2000).

Join us! You can do four things to help move our project forward:

* Give us feedback! Point out texts that that you find
especially valuable. Ask someone to review Fresh Currents

* Please send this PDF of *Fresh Currents *to any educational,
environmental or citizen group, individual, blog, or website who has
interest in our energy future. May this publication multiply and spread!

* We are looking for a Japanese publisher and appreciate any
suggestions you may have in this regard.

* We wish to produce a screening of films in Kyoto related to
nuclear power, Fukushima, and renewable energy technologies. Do you
have a favorite film? Please send your suggestion to our Heartwork Editor

Our Planet TV needs your help !

Ourplanet-TV is a a non-profit organization, which began its activities in 2001. As an alternative non-profit and non-commercial media station, Ourplanet-TV has been producing independent documentary films & interviews and has been broadcasting the content online. Ourplanet-TV adopts a non-profit and non-commercial management style, so we do not have any advertisement costs and all our production expenses is covered by membership fees and YOUR donations. We are highly independent from any political or commercial affiliation.
Your support is needed to sustain and grow Our Planet TV!
Even after the tragic accident on March 11th, at the Fukushima nuclear power plant the government and TEPCO continued to underestimate and underreport the severity of the accident and the potential effects on the surrounding population.
The mainstream media followed this lead by not questioning the information they were getting from the government and TEPCO and simply passed along what they were being told, always telling the best case scenario.
OurPlanet-TV has been covering the whole incident and given transparent information about the incident as opposed to the mass media. We especially have been focusing on children’s health issue and safety problems related to people’s daily life. For parents living close to the nuclear incidents epicenter, it has been crucial for them to have access to objective information regarding the disastrous situation.
By giving donations to Our Planet TV, we will be able to provide diverse perspectives that rarely heard in the corporate-sponsored Japanese media to people in Japan and all around the world.

Japanese Researcher: They remind me of Godzilla (PHOTO) — 95% of worms die, survivors grow 10 times average size when raised on Tokyo soil contaminated with Fukushima radioactive material

June 20, 2012 report from geiger.grupo.jp translated by Dissensus Japan:

Image

“..I contacted Mr. Tomita, who studies the environmental pollution and has already began a living-body experiment using silkworms to seize the effects of pollutants. He came all the way from Osaka to set up the experiment. Eggshell of silkworm is extremely hard, so that embryo can hardly get damaged by most pollutants.

They don’t die even when they are boiled in 10N, 48 hydrochloric acid for 5 minutes.
When a silkworm ecloses, it breaks the eggshell. Therefore, they can possibly be affected by harmful materials attached to the eggshells.

1. Experimental Outline: Put the radiation contaminated dirts (listed below) and 60 silkworm eggs in each container, and observe eclosion and process of growth…”

“..The worms of container 1, 2 and 3 seems to me to grow normally, however, the ones in container 4 are abnormal. They remind me of Godzilla.

I suppose that they grow enormous not because their DNA was damaged but because the damage to epigenetics of DNA causes to produce more growth hormones than usual. When about 2-year old silkworms are grown on a chipboard, rapidity of growth varies greatly. It is considerable that chemical materials affect hormonal series. Some female patients of Suginami sickness grew a mustache or male patients had brest…”

Video Interview of Former Plant Manager of #Fukushima I Nuke Plant Masao Yoshida: “I Saw Divine Beings in Workers in Hellish Situation” (Part 1 of 2)

http://ex-skf.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/video-interview-of-former-plant-manager.html

“…

In a Buddhism text that I’ve been reading for a long time, there is a mention of divine figures issuing from the ground. That was what I felt was happening in the hellish situation at the plant. Workers would go to the scenes of the accident, then come back upstairs (at the Anti-Seismic Building), they were dead tired, without sleep, with not enough food, reaching the limit of their physical strength. Then they would go out again, and come back, and go out again. There were many workers like them. When I saw these workers, I knew I had to do whatever I could for them. It’s my belief that we have been able to restore the plant to the current level [of relative stability], because of these workers.

The precise word Mr. Yoshida uses for “divine figure” is “Bodhisattva” – one who vows to save all beings before becoming a buddha.

It was probably the first time that anyone from TEPCO spoke words of praise and appreciation for the workers at the plant in a personal way like Mr. Yoshida did. According to the local Fukushima newspapers, Yoshida’s words were much appreciated by the families whose members worked or still works at the plant….”

SUNDAY, AUGUST 12, 2012 Just In on Kyodo News: Over 80,000 Public Comments on Government Policy on Reliance on Nuclear Energy in 2030, Government Announced

http://ex-skf.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/just-in-on-kyodo-news-over-80000-public.html

“..

The three choices of nuclear reliance were 30% (same as pre-Fukushima reliance on nuclear energy), 15%, or 0% of electricity to be generated by the nuclear power plants by 2030. It is pretty clear where the administration wanted to steer the opinions – 15%. Big mistake. Opinion polls indicate 0% is the most popular choice.

All those token (or sham) town hall meetings in select cities throughout Japan by the government (Goshi Hosono, as the minister in charge of nuclear accident, I think) but actually planned and carried out by one of the largest PR agencies in Japan (Hakuhodo) for the sum of 50,000,000 yen (US$640,000) did nothing to appease net citizens.

The government bureaucrats and experts with close ties to the government have said in the past that while the government may not pay any attention to the protests on the streets, it does care about the public comments which by law they cannot easily ignore. We’ll see what the tenor of the comments are, soon enough…..”
