Enexus Nuclear Power Company Will Be Financially Unstable
The New York Public Commission staff has concluded that Entergy’s proposed spinoff is not in the public interest, and that the new company will be too debt-burdened and financially unstable.
Nuclear “SpinCo”, t r u t h o u t , 18 March 2010 by: World Business Academy, Rinaldo Brutoco and Madeleine Austin, The nuclear industry, like Wall Street, knows how to make money with other people’s money: move liabilities off balance sheet, use lots of borrowed money and leverage, don’t worry about loading too much debt onto the company as long as insiders can walk away with plenty of money and look to the fool taxpayer to cover the losses. Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant uneconomic- to be shut down
Exelon may shut down oldest nuclear plant in U.S.Chicago Breaking Business March 18, 2010 Associated Press | Chicago-based Exelon Corp. says it will shut down the oldest nuclear power plant in the U.S., rather than build cooling towers mandated by environmental regulators in New Jersey. Exelon says the $800 million that it would cost to build the towers is more than the 40-year-old Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station is worth…..Earlier this year, New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection required the plant to build one or more cooling towers instead of relying on water drawn from the Oyster Creek in Lacey Township in New Jersey to cool the reactor.
The state says that process kills billions of shrimp and tens of thousands of fish, crabs and clams each year.

Citizens smell a rat on Entergy’s Nuclear Spin-Off
citizens seem to be saying that they “smell a rat”. Perhaps they figure that when it’s time to shut down and clean up these plants Entergy wants to be sure that their deep corporate pockets are not available to the states in question if the Enexus doesn’t have enough money to do the job. And if that happens, guess who will foot the bills.
Entergy’s Nuclear Spin-Off Hits a Snag in Vermont, Seeking Alpha, by: John Clark March 14, 2010 Entergy (ETR), has been trying to complete a stock spinoff to separate its nuclear power plants for some time. This may be a terrific deal for Entergy and may be even a good one for the owners of the new entity to be called Enexus, but states in which those power plants are situated apparently aren’t so sure. What on Earth to do about America’s nuclear wastes piling up?
And – why on Earth do they want to make more of them???
Debating the Nuclear Waste Problem, NYTimes.com, By MATTHEW L. WALD, March 9, 2010. With Nevada’s Yucca Mountain facility apparently out of the picture as a nuclear waste repository, government nuclear experts say interim measures might be needed for a very long time.
In a speech Tuesday delivered to about 2,700 industry executives, nuclear regulators and other experts gathered for a nuclear energy conference in Washington, Gregory B. Jaczko, the chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said that his agency needed to determine just how many centuries such fuel can be safely stored above ground, and that it should come up with a policy that would not require amendment for many years.

Even USA’s Right Wing is Worried About Nuclear Loan Guarantees!
The Heritage Foundation Position on Loan Guarantees , The Foundry: Conservative Policy News. 12 March 2010, The Heritage Foundation has not opposed limited loan guarantees (those already authorized under the Energy Policy Act of 2005). …..
