Israel – don’t ask, don’t tell, about its nuclear weapons

Israel’s policy toward its nuclear secrets needs to change as well…….
Israel’s policy goes by the Hebrew word amimut, meaning vagueness, opacity or ambiguity. It is a turbo-charged version of “don’t ask, don’t tell.

Books of The Times – Avner Cohen’s ‘Worst-Kept Secret,’ Israel and the Bomb – NYTimes.com, by Ethan Bronner, 13 Oct 10, In 1986 a former technician in the Dimona nuclear reactor in Israel revealed to The Sunday Times of London everything he knew about Israel’s clandestine nuclear weapons program. Secret code inside Stuxnet worm suggests Israel is the source

The Secret Code Inside The Supervirus Attacking Iran Nuclear Power | Gizmodo Australia, By Jesus Diaz on September 30, 2010 Software engineers analysing the code inside Stuxnet, the supervirus that is focusing its attacks in Iran power plants, have found a secret code word that may point to its country of origin. The origin may be, oh surprise, Israel. Engineers reportedly found the word “Myrtus” inside the virus, which could be an allusion to the Book of Esther…… the Stuxnet virus didn’t kill anyone or caused any fatal damage to Iran’s nuclear plant. Designed to attack Siemens’ Simatic S-7 controllers—used in nuclear power plants as well as oil pipelines and electrical power grids—the worm has been found in China, India, and Indonesia, but it has been especially virulent in Iran. According to experts consulted by the New York Times, the secret code may not be a sloppy or whimsical reference from its developers, but a tool of psychological war. In recent years, Iran has been feeling the heat in their nuclear program, with scientists defecting and their secrets being compromised. The signature may just be a way of telling them “may no mistake, we are onto you.” The Secret Code Inside The Supervirus Attacking Iran Nuclear Power | Gizmodo Australia

Why Israel will not attack Iran’s nukes

Israel will not attack Iran’s nuclear facilities partly because Iran is far away and would be very difficult and costly to attack, but mainly because it’s not necessary
The Persian Bomb – Living Lake Country, By Al Neuhauser
Sept. 26, 2010 Lot of folks seem to be exercised over the potential of Iran developing an atomic bomb to loft into Israel or even across the pond to us. Equally dire is the potential for Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. Continue reading

Some information on Israel’s nuclear weapons

More clues to Israel’s nuclear weapons status The Guardian, Or Rabinowitz 16 August 2010 “…..There is some evidence that possibly indicates that Israel‘s first nuclear test took place on 2 November 1966. This suspected test, if it happened, was a zero or near-zero yield test carried out at Dimona site and intended to validate Israel’s nuclear design……..
The information about the 1966 alleged test and the change in Israel’s nuclear status became accepted as the date Israel became nuclear. A British document from 1979 states that: “Successive Israeli governments since 1966 have said that Israel will not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons in the Middle East … We believe the Israelis could quickly assemble about a dozen low-yield weapons without testing for a delivery.”… Letters: More clues to Israel’s nuclear weapons status | World news | The Guardian

New fears that Israel might attack Iran

Israel might not even ask for the famous “green light” from the U.S. – or even give couple of false pre-attack alerts, so that Washington won’t try to stop the unilateral operation…………..
The results might be dire:………

Focus U.S.A. / Will Israel really attack Iran within a year? – Haaretz Daily Newspaper  11 August 2010, Israel might attack Iranian nuclear sites within a year, if Iran stays the current course and the U.S. administration doesn’t succeed in persuading Israel’s leadership that U.S. President Barack Obama is ready to stop Iran by force if necessary, so argues Jeffrey Goldberg in Atlantic magazine’s September cover story, obtained by Haaretz ahead of publication. USA urging Israel to sign Nuclear non Proliferation Treaty

US Pushes Israel to Sign Nuclear Treaty, newsmax.com  04 Jul 2010 The Obama administration wants Israel to formally declare its nuclear weapons program by signing the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, according to The New York Times.
The United States first agreed to Arab demands in May that the final wording of the treaty include a clause urging Israel to become a signatory, and the issue is likely to arise again on Tuesday when Israeli Prime Minister Bejnamin Netanyahu visits the White House.

Under the terms of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, a nuclear-free zone would be established in the Middle East. That would be a major issue for Israel. Although Israel has nuclear weapons, it has never officially admitted it, and it would be reluctant to give up its arsenal while surrounded by hostile nations. Mordechai Vanunu, lonely anti nuclear whistleblower

Mr. Vanunu’s story is to be seen in the wider context of the secrecy that has surrounded Israel’s nuclear weapons programme and its western allies’ complicity.

Lonely battle of an Israeli whistle-blower, The Hindu, Hasan Suroor , June 1, 2010 Mordechai Vanunu’s case is as much about suppressing dissent by a supposedly democratic state as it is a demonstration of western double standards.

Had Mordechai Vanunu been, say, an Iranian or a Russian whistle-blower and facing persecution at home, he would have been assured of a prominent place in the western pantheon of heroes. But he is an Israeli dissident and Israel’s friends in the West have no time for him. Continue reading
