Fairewinds Kevin Hurley, Maggie Gundersen, and Arnie Gundersen share this podcast. Kevin and Maggie discuss the recent internet attack against the Fairewinds website. Arnie, Maggie and Kevin discuss the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s double standard of allowing Nuclear Senior managers off the hook for significant violations while strongly reprimanding, firing, or filing criminal charges against its technicians and engineers. Lastly, Arnie Gundersen then discusses saltwater intrusions and what that means for Japan’s Hamaoka nuclear plant and how nuke speak is used to confuse the general public and press.

We are on a road approximately 40km north-west of Fukushima Dai Ichi power plant near Iitate. The village is now a famous Hot spot with high levels of radioactivity.
It has been nearly completely evacuated. It looks like a ghost town with deserted homes everywhere. But here and there on the side of the road, among abandoned fields, one can see some farmers still growing vegetables. While we were filming this, an old man came to me and started talking.

Therefore, I haven’t grown any vegetables since last year. Even if I grew them I wouldn’t want to give them to other people because they are no good any more.
For myself I buy and eat vegetables produced in the other areas such as Ibaragi prefecture. I think I’m managing just about ok by taking some herbs to help detoxify the contamination out of my body effectively.”

“Before I eat my main meal I take a fair amount of vegetables that are high in fibers and seaweed. I think they are digested easier so that the body can detoxify itself more effectively.
I don’t want to be too nervous… We’ve got to enjoy our life as much as we can. I’ve just retired at the age of 65… Were your children not worried about you?
They came and invited me to live with them but I didn’t want to leave here. (He greeted another farmer who just passed by.) …He lives over there. He still grows vegetables…”
Israel used depleted uranium in airstrike on Syria: Report
“This was used on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities,” she added……”

The official, who was present near the attack site on Sunday morning, told Russia Today that Israel used “a new type of weapon” during the airstrike.
“When the explosion happened, it felt like an earthquake,” the official, who asked not to be named, added.
“Then a giant golden mushroom of fire appeared. This tells us that Israel used depleted uranium shells,” the Syrian official said.
“Several civilian factories and buildings were destroyed. The target was just an ordinary weapons warehouse. The bombing is an ultimatum to us,” he added.
The Syrian official also refuted the claims by Western intelligence sources that the airstrike targeted transfers of weapons from the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah to Syria.
Jamraya Research Center had been targeted by another Israeli airstrike back in January.
The Sunday attack came shortly after Tel Aviv confirmed that its warplanes had hit another target in Syria on Friday.
On Saturday, US President Barack Obama said the Israeli regime has the right to launch airstrikes on Syria.

Syria’s Foreign Ministry has sent letters to the United Nations and its Security Council stating that Israel’s aggression shows the link between Tel Aviv and terrorist groups operating in Syria including the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front.
Meanwhile, the anti-Syria countries including Turkey and several Arab states in the region have been mum on Tel Aviv’s acts of aggression against Syria.

UN’s Carla Del Ponte says there is evidence rebels ‘may have used sarin’ in Syria
”
A United Nations inquiry into human rights abuses in Syria has found evidence that rebel forces may have used chemical weapons, its lead investigator has revealed.
Carla Del Ponte, a member of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria, said that testimony gathered from casualties and medical staff indicated that the nerve agent sarin was used by rebel fighters.
“Our investigators have been in neighbouring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals and, according to their report of last week which I have seen, there are strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated,” Ms Del Ponte said in an interview broadcast on Swiss-Italian television on Sunday.
“This was used on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities,” she added……”

“We want you to remember Fukushima but please don’t come to Fukushima! and do not eat Fukushima products!
If you visit Fukushima, you are supporting the Japanese government’s misleading safety campaign that helps to establish that Fukushima is a safe place to live, hence, the children of Fukushima will not be evacuated out of Fukushima.

If you eat Fukushima products, in the same way, you are helping to establish that Fukushima food is safe. Then the Fukushima children are coerced to eat the radioactively contaminated local food at school lunch.

On the TVS morning program, Minomonta, The TV presenter showed statistics of the decreasing sale of Fukushima products, saying it was because of “Fuhyo Higai” (Harmful rumor, see below) He sounded like he was supporting Fukushima farmers. I feel pity for Fukushima farmers, but I think it’s a consumer’s right to feel concerned about Fukushima products.”
“They said they just need to wait patiently and let the land to heal from the radioactive contamination by itself, and hope for the best.
Removing the radioactive contamination from the leaf moulds is impossible. And anyway, getting rid of the leaf moulds would be detrimental to the environment because the most important aspect of the leaf moulds is that the forests water retention capability would be lost if the mould were removed.
Therefore, decontamination of the forest wouldn’t work for us. We would lose our jobs. Fukushima prefecture is 70-80% mountainous. If they decontaminate the land, they need to do all of it (according to what he described, it’s impossible) or Japan admits the extent of the contamination in Fukushima prefecture and acts accordingly. That’s the only way to show the world our sincerity, and then we can only start to gain our trust from the rest of the world.”
“I had a friend who was a farmer in Fukushima Prefecture. I used to buy, and enjoy, eating his products.
After the disaster, I suggested him to come to the West of Japan to work on the land and rice fields. After a while he sent me his products, I think it was a thank you gift for my suggestion. However, I didn’t feel like eating them and had to throw them away. I felt sad about doing that. I didn’t know what to say to him afterwards.
I haven’t heard from him since. So sadly, we lost our friendship and our contact. I would like to use this blog to express some thoughts.
Those experienced farmers in Fukushima prefecture deserve a second chance. They should be given a piece of land in the West and South of Japan that has not been used for a long time. I’m sure they will be able to contribute to our farming industry. What on earth are the Government and Farm Ministry doing to help people in Fukushima and save our country?”
North Korea DOES give a dam! – Heroic Spirit of Workers for New Hydroelectric Plant
Published on 4 May 2013
Korean Central Television (조선중앙방송)

Arclight2011 translation of video (until something, err, more accurate turns up! 😉 )
In this video we see rock drilling in time to accordion music, night work under flaming torches, people queuing up to help and support the workers, the workers having a warm sing song to keep warm under a cold sky. Whole rock faces shudder under the might of the North Korean Jack-hammer then turning to dust before our very eyes! The ground itself shook with the tramping of workers feet as they smashed and hauled the remains of mother natures toughest materials.
When questioned an official said
“We are going to knock this out in no time! so quick in fact that we are planning the next hydroelectric dam project already! in south Korea ”
A worker who was clutching a Jack hammer in one hand and a flaming torch in the other had the multitasking ability to also sing while dancing at the same time as he said
“I love this job and i love this country”
When questioned an official of the party said
“nuclear power electricity generation is so twentieth century!”
And then a final rousing sing song that brings us into the twenty-first century celebrating non nuclear electricity generation for the future!! Hail the Litttle Leader!! Hail! Hail!
The mystery of radioactive rain in Brazil; Chris Busby

Video Description
The decay of Radon, Rn-222 which involved gamma rays over the short term is as follows:
Rn-222 half life 3.8days , then Po-218 (3.05mins), Pb-214 (26.8mins), Bi-214 (19.9mins), Po-214 (164uSec), Pb210 (22.3y)
Of these only Ra-222 and Bi-214 give appreciable gamma radiation. The weighted contribution is about 60 Ra-222 to 80 Bi-214. The Brazil rain samples decay with an overall half life of about 37 minutes (16uSv/h to 1uSv/h in 150 min; Four half lives 16,8,4,2,1). If we assume that the radon was generated from radium a few hours before it was detected in the rain, that suggests Bismuth 214 as the origin of the signal. Bi-214 may have a higher concentration in the rain due to fractionation (since it is a solid and Ra222 a gas; it may form some kind of Bismuth hydroxide). The reason it is high in Brazil is there is a lot of Radium in Brazil. Of course, this means that rain can be a radon exposure hazard from external gamma and also drinking fresh rainwater. Not just in Brazil. I have not heard that anyone has realised this or that the official risk agencies have stated it anywhere. Look for diarrhoea and flu like symptoms after heavy rain. Thanks to Samuel dal Pizzol and other radiation measurer’s for discovering this!
Shocking findings on effects of MOX processes on miscarriage and respiratory illness in the UK (Repost)
“…Placing the actual national numbers gleaned from the vaccine/miscarriage study of 2009 against the Watford Hospital, the national figures for pollutant caused miscarriage might be in the tens of thousands, at the very least, if you looked at these figures as representative nationally, this too will effect countries adjacent to the UK…”

In this article I realise that I am touching on a sensitive subject and one that has impacted many. I hope to treat this subject with a respectful degree of gravitas. But I have some points to note.
“In women lead poisoning can cause stillbirth, miscarriage, premature birth and foetal development problems”
In my research of all things nuclear via the World Wide Web, I came across a set of shocking statistics that were unearthed by another independent researcher on You-tube (jamnoise72).
That video shows the figures of miscarriages from Watford Hospital London UK, showed an increase in the cases found. These figures from the hospital came with a year on year (more or less) increase in respiratory admissions to ICU accident and emergency admissions. here is the video for that!
The miscarriage rates were shocking and I wanted to see if there were any other reasons that could have contributed to it.
“Miscarriage statistics aren’t well-publicized. Miscarriage would be much easier if a weight of silence did not hang over the topic. Miscarriage remains an uncomfortable subject in our society. The silence permeating the topic causes more psychological pain for the grieving mother since she is unable to mourn openly and properly.“
But apparently at least 50 percent of all miscarriages are from “unknown causes” and the other common causes/factors have steady proportions. The total amounts are reported in the medical and miscarriage support blogs as being at a steady rate with no particular increase or decrease because they are only a statistical average and not based on the actual numbers!

Concerning the expensive research that has gone on around this field, into causation, there seems to be no consensus as to what is really causing it. I saw words like “might be” “is possible”, with no definitive statistics for things like alcohol, caffeine, having sex etc. etc..
“And while other countries have seen a fall in stillbirths, the UK’s record is one of the worst, with no improvement in 10 years, ranking us 33rd worst in the world.”
Some studies though were more in depth and actually looking at issues such as changes in their concentrations within coagulation (also known to be caused by ionising radiation in Chernobyl) causing 15 percent of miscarriages and the unknowns causing 50 percent of miscarriages. And This through the early and late stages.. most would be lost in the early stages but I found evidence that late stage pregnancies were on the increase in the UK (it should be safer as the pregnancy progresses).
“This issue is complicated in humans by the high natural spontaneous abortion rate of 15-30%, which makes determining the specific reproductive effects in humans difficult without studying large groups. “
So why don’t they collect the data nationally? Using the expensive computer system they have? Is it because they don’t want the actual numbers, because they have a blind faith in statistics? This is huge problem found in many areas of science and research. For instance, the Japanese study on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in dogs from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident that was commissioned. At the same time when the Japanese Thyroid Association was doing NO research on the impact of the nuclear disaster on humans.
Image source ; 28 doctors in Aomori prefecture made this poster showing radiological/toxic damage.
Meanwhile somewhere in Japan a genetics laboratory staff are still awaiting even a single blood sample from the Fukushima residents so they can test for ionising radiation damage (there is a test for this type of damage but it is not being used!).
“Births, terminations and stillbirths are recorded by law, but the birth of a child before 24 weeks may not be because it is called a miscarriage and there is simply no official audit of miscarriages.”
The Japanese government on year 2 of the disaster are just commissioning a report on the ethics of using genetic research and the time is running out for these tests to be accurate. This shows how science can be manipulated avoiding real numbers for corporate profits. The science community relies instead on the likes of Ricahrd Wakeford (ex BNFL Sellafield) and his handy statistical equations.
So why did I draw your attention to Japan? The UK is complicit in covering up the effects of ionising radiation. The world science community relies on UK scientists to make their biased claims via peer reviewed article (70 percent of which are likely faulty reports in some way according to a recent stunning report) and the vast media presence of the BBC. This criminal use of science media and politics is responsible for the cover up on the effects on the people living in contaminated areas in Japan.
“We postulate that chronic low-level ecological and professional ionizing radiation exposure were causal for haemostasiological imbalance and impaired the cell-cell communication”
Why does the UK and the USA want to increase the amount of allowable contamination into our environment? Is it because our background radiation and more relevantly, our air quality has been polluted with the increased atmospheric emission coming from the new MOX fuel and waste disposal of nuclear materials, nuclear reactor emissions, weapons discharges and uranium/gold mining processes? And this is spreading micro-particles with ionising and toxic effects!
This is a short article of my impression of my findings. I wanted to share these thoughts with you all and ask the questions. Now its up to you to do some research and ask your own questions. Military and governmental research accounts for a large proportion of a universities income.. there is little independent research allowed or funded for. Can we trust our scientists? Do they work for us or for corporate profits? You decide?
The increase in the 2009 to 2010 was likely caused by this;
H1N1 vaccines contributed to 3587 miscarriages and stillbirths in 2009.
By On September 17, 2010
Placing the actual national numbers gleened from the vaccine/miscarriage study of 2009 against the Watford hospital figures the national figures for pollutant caused miscarriage would be in the tens of thousands, at least, if you looked at these figures as representative nationally, this too will effect countries adjacent to the UK.
I have embedded 2 videos showing the statistics with some preliminary thoughts I had on the findings and below is a list of links i used to compile the above article. I will leave a useful link to a book/PDF at the top of the links for women who might need advise on miscarriage issues, though it is a bit dated it was compiled by women who have experienced miscarriage and I thought it informative if dated.

Humans Used for Radiation Experiments: A Shameful Chapter in US History
[…] The military even dumped radiation from planes and spread it across wide areas around and downwind of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Los Alamos, NM, and Dugway, Utah. This “systematic radiation warfare program,” conducted between 1944 and 1961, was kept secret for decades.
“Radiation bombs” thrown from USAF planes intentionally spread radiation “unknown distances” endangering the young and old alike. One such experiment doused Utah with 60 times more radiation than escaped the Three Mile Island accident, according to Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, who released a report on the program 20 years ago. […]

Villagers near Russia’s Mayak still struggle to survive on contaminated lands
….Vladimir Chuprov: There are families living near the radioactive river who don’t have all their papers in order. Lots of Russian citizens still go by documents dating back to the Soviet time that are in some way incomplete or were made out with errors. This is a routine occurrence, a mundane problem that is easy to rectify. It cannot be held against these people. But this is exactly the pretext that is used to deny them aid under the resettlement program.
Let me say it again, these are real people, who live in a contaminated area…
Bellona
ST. PETERSBURG – A rural gathering that recently brought together residents of the villages of Muslyumovo, Brodokalmak, Russkaya Techa, and Nizhne-Petropavlovskoye, all located in the vicinity of the notorious nuclear reprocessing facility Mayak, in Chelyabinsk Region, resulted in a list of demands that the 120 participants feel must be heard by federal and regional authorities – grievances that have been barely addressed in the fifty years of local inhabitants’ desperate plight in what is deemed the most contaminated place on the planet.
The gathering took place in Muslyumovo, of Kunashak District, one of the settlements that remain severely affected both by the infamous Kyshtym disaster – the Mayak Chemical Combine’s 1957 radioactive waste explosion accident that threw some 20 million curies of radiation into the atmosphere and left some 23,000 square kilometers of area contaminated – and by decades of continuous dumping of radioactive waste by Mayak into the local rivers and lakes.
In the late 1990s, the locals’ fight to have Muslyumovo and adjacent areas evacuated eventually resulted in decisions made to resettle the affected populations. Yet, what looks like steps finally taken in the right direction masks years of continued inaction and neglect, paralyzing bureaucracy, and disingenuous pretenses at attempts to provide solutions to the area’s radiation-related health woes.
The community meeting was organized with the help of Greenpeace Russia, and was not the only one this year. In late April, a Greenpeace activist in Chelyabinsk staged a one-man picket drawing the authorities’ attention to the dire situation in the villages after two community meetings – one on February 21 and a later one on April 22 – barely compelled officials to take any action.
The April 22 meeting in Brodokalmak, a Greenpeace release on the protest action said, was attended by about 120 people and in fact started with a scandal: For an hour and a half, elderly villagers who wished to participate stood at the closed doors of the local house of culture, where they were refused entry because of a leak in the basement. The discussion at the meeting, when it eventually got underway, focused on the problems of resettlement and healthcare, the statement said. As at least one promising result of the two gatherings, the local Ministry of Health gave the villagers an official promise not to close down a hospital in Brodokalmak where locals could receive treatment for radiation sickness.
At the February 21 meeting, 120 participants summed up their grievances in a resolution, which they decided to send to the Russian president and prime minister, the State Duma and Federation Council, the Ministry of Health and Social Development, the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, the governor and administration of Chelyabinsk Region, the administration of Kunashak District, regional and federal human rights commissioners, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – agencies and ministries and officials of various stripes that should have long ago brought their efforts together to duly compensate local residents for creating an unbearable living environment on these lands.
Vladimir Chuprov, energy program coordinator at Greenpeace Russia, has been involved for many years in assisting residents of Chelyabinsk Region’s radioactive villages in their fight for their rights and also chaired the February 21 meeting. Bellona’s Environment & Rights magazine asked Chuprov to comment on the problems that the villagers summarized in their resolution.
Coping with the tragedy alone
From the villagers’ resolution: The state system of providing citizens with compensation for damages resulting from radioactive accidents, including the legislation, does not assure meaningful compensation for the damage caused; the court system often fails to protect the citizens’ interests.
Vladimir Chuprov: The tasks before the state and the [State Corporation] Rosatom are simple and clear: They must return the quality of life to a level no lower than what it was before the radiation accident. But the quality of life for people [residing] in territories affected by […] Mayak has drastically deteriorated.
An Aluminium Fuel Cell – Why Is UK government Blocking It?
Update: at the end of the video where the video audio becomes mysteriously corrupted as the converstaion turned to the advice from the business advisor’s that he went to see.
The statement that he got from these financiers was that the UK government will only support “electrically rechargeable” batteries. Meaning, “only that can be charged with nuclear power” imo

Danger Zone: Ageing Nuclear Reactors in the USA
“…Rubin and Fang discover that the NRC’s oversight track record is far from perfect, and that unless urgent action is taken the US could be heading for a nuclear catastrophe of its own….”
MissingSky101
Published on 2 May 2013
Following Japan’s nuclear disaster last year there are fears the US may be heading for a nuclear catastrophe of its own.
People and Power Last Modified: 01 Mar 2012
In March 2011, a devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
As tens of thousands of people were evacuated from nearby towns and villages, the world waited anxiously to see whether the radioactive fallout would spread across the country, or even be carried overseas.
Unsurprisingly, in the wake of this incident, the nuclear operations of other countries have come under considerable scrutiny.
One such country is the US where more than 100 similar reactors – some of them in earthquake zones or close to major cities – are now reaching the end of their working lives.
Their owners want to keep them running, but others – from environmentalists to mainstream politicians – are deeply concerned.
In this investigation for People & Power, Joe Rubin and Serene Fang of the Center for Investigative Reporting examine whether important safety considerations are being taken into account as the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) considers extending the licences of these plants.

CNN Films has acquired the domestic television rights for PANDORA’S PROMISE […] The film will premiere on CNN/U.S. in November 2013 […]
The atomic bomb and accidents at Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and Fukushima bring to mind apocalyptic disasters, but the science and experience since suggest that long-held fears about nuclear power may be wrong. […] PANDORA’S PROMISE examines how irrational fears of “nukes” may have extended the era of fossil fuels […]
“PANDORA’S PROMISE should inspire broad discussion on the fundamental issues of economic and social disparities and environmental risks,” said Amy Entelis, senior vice president for talent and content development for CNN Worldwide. […]
“He reports the history and how we got here, spotlights the challenges, and systematically debunks the myths and misinformation that have so clouded this essential debate – before this important film,” Malhotra said.
Undaunted and independent, PANDORA’S PROMISE is a groundbreaking work that is forever changing the conversation about the myths and science behind the deeply emotional and polarizing issue of nuclear power. […]
