Endorse the Nuclear Abolition Day Appeal
Support for the Appeal: Alyn Ware
On behalf of the NuclearAbolitionDay.org Working Group
www.nuclearabolitionday.orgWe are delighted that the Appeal has been endorsed by more than 800 organizations and over 1400 individuals from 107 countries including Nobel Laureates, former high-level officials (foreign ministers, UN officials, military officers…), parliamentarians, local body representatives, academics/scientists, religious leaders, medical professionals, youth leaders, educators, business leaders, artists and many others from diverse fields.
On September 23, 2026 we sent the Appeal and list of endorsers to all UN Members via their Missions to the United Nations in New York, and also to Disarmament Divisions of many of the Foreign Ministries of respective States.
The Appeal was also widely discussed at Towards a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World, the global, online event which we organized on September 25-26 to commemorate the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. You can view opening statements at this event by:
- H.E. Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs;
- Michael Douglas, Academy Award Winning Actor and UN Messenger of Peace; and
- Hon. Oscar Arias, President of Costa Rica 1986 to 1990 and 2006 to 2010, Nobel Peace Laureate1987;

Dr. Deepshikha Kumari Vijh, core member of the working group for the Nuclear Abolition Day, will present the Appeal to the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly First Committee (Disarmament and International Security). This committee is where UN Member States take action on disarmament issues. Dr Vijh will present the appeal to a special plenary of the committee on October 15th, in the afternoon session that runs from 3pm – 6pm Eastern Time, USA. You can watch the session and the presentation live on UNWebTV.
Nuclear Abolition Day quotes and social media action:
We thank endorsers who submitted quotes for Nuclear Abolition Day. These provide a wealth of reflection, ideas and inspiration for the global abolition of nuclear weapons. We also thank all of you who did the social media action Stop Nuclear Weapons: Peace is in our Hands – a positive, public action that was undertaken in a variety of interesting locations around the world.
Once again, we thank you for your action to promote nuclear disarmament in conjunction with Nuclear Abolition Day 2026. We encourage you to visit the Nuclear Abolition Day News page or subscribe to the UNFOLD ZERO newsletter for articles and updates.
