The billionaires selling us the future are making plans to escape it. They promise artificial intelligence will liberate humanity while concentrating the wealth and power to decide whose lives are expendable. Their bunkers offer a revealing answer to the question their public relations campaigns avoid: What happens to everyone else?

In this conversation with Doomscroll host Joshua Citarella, Naomi Klein examines what she and co-author Astra Taylor call “end times fascism”—an alliance of religious fundamentalists anticipating Armageddon, tech oligarchs dreaming of transcending humanity, and nationalist movements building fortresses against the people their policies help displace. Klein argues that decades of privatization, austerity and corporate rule prepared the ground for this politics. The respectable centrists who presided over the wreckage now offer more of the same as its cure.

Klein’s warning cuts through Silicon Valley’s salvation racket: concentrated wealth has become a threat to collective survival. An elite that believes it can buy its way out of catastrophe has little reason to prevent it.
