Tory plan to cut Scotland’s powers poses a question they cannot dodge.

Andrew Bowie – the shadow energy secretary – who has made crystal clear
what a General Election win for his party would mean: fewer powers for
Scotland.

“We will legislate to ensure that Scotland can host new nuclear
power generation,” Bowie said. The message is this: should the Tories
re-enter No 10, the devolution of planning powers to the Scottish
Government will be stripped back. Bowie did not shy away from this, telling
party faithful at the Tory conference:

“If John Swinney and SNP ministers
want to have a fight over any plans that would deliver thousands of jobs
and protect energy security, then I say bring it on.” The SNP responded
with their own challenge. “Tory politicians proposing to force nuclear
power plants on Scotland should tell us who among them wants one of these
extortionate, wasteful, and unnecessary nuclear plants built in their
constituency,” SNP MSP Laura Mitchell said.
