Financial institutions funding nuclear weapons – theme for June 20

Nobody except a few erratic multi-billionaires is willing to gamble their money on “peaceful” nuclear power.  Still, your taxes are going to so-called “commercial” nuclear power, if you live in a nuclear country.

But banks, pension funds, insurance companies and asset managers are investing in nuclear weapons – and you wouldn’t even know that your money is going there.  Don’t Bank on the Bomb has listed institutions around the world with substantial investments in nuclear arms producers. Fo example  From 2013 to 2016, United States 226 Financial Institutions made an estimated USD$ 344 billion available to 27 nuclear weapon producing companies .

International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weaspons, (ICAN) has identified financial organisations funding nuclear weapons The report Don’t Bank on the Bomb, updated annually by PAX, provides details of financial transactions with companies that are heavily involved in the manufacture, maintenance and modernization of US, British, French and Indian nuclear forces.

ICAN is appealing to financial institutions to stop investing in the nuclear arms industry, as any use of nuclear weapons would violate international law and have catastrophic humanitarian consequences. By investing in nuclear weapons producers, financial institutions are in effect facilitating the build-up of nuclear forces. This undermines efforts to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world and heightens the risk that one day these ultimate weapons of mass destruction will be used again.

Engaging in dialogues with financial institutions about their investments in nuclear weapons companies can help to raise their understanding of the effects of nuclear weapons and their status under international law. Here are some tips for letter-writing:

  • How to begin: Let the financial institution know who you are. Do you hold a bank account with them? Are you a member of their superannuation plan? Do you own shares in their company? Are you writing as a representative of a particular organization? Are you simply a concerned citizen?
  • What to include: Inform the financial institution that you are aware of their investments in nuclear weapons companies. Specify which companies and briefly describe the activities these companies are engaged in. Outline why you believe that financing nuclear weapons is illegitimate.
  • Ask for information: Inquire as to whether the financial institution has a policy on investing in the arms industry. If you are already aware that such a policy exists, ask the institution to explain how its investments in nuclear weapons companies can be justified under the terms of the policy.
  • Call for action: Call on the financial institution to divest from all nuclear weapons companies. Explain that nuclear weapons are illegal to use and have catastrophic humanitarian consequences. End by making it clear that you expect a response. –  Don’t Bank on the Bomb

A whole other set of problems—Jewish persecution in the Ukraine—caused my family and I to relocate to the United States in 1995. By then, the frequency of my seizures had decreased, but my migraines remained.

Medically, things were improving for me; socially, things weren’t as positive.

I was in the seventh grade, and was still struggling to learn English. The taunting comments from my classmates were hard to handle—and along with the health complications I was still dealing with, I’d never felt so alone, so isolated, such pain. That year, I considered suicide.

Luckily, things started to look up the following year when I turned 13. I adjusted to the new culture, and my English started to improve, as did my health, albeit gradually.

I was 16 when I saw the first X-Men film, and it changed my life.
I saw mutants who, like me, had been exposed to radiation. I remember crying happy tears during that movie, because I felt so connected to the characters. I felt like I was watching myself on the screen. I wanted to join them. I wanted to be a part of the X-Men.

That was the first time I realized that instead of being a victim, I was a survivor.

After watching that movie, I took my first psychology class in high school. Now, I’m a psychologist who specializes in using superheroes and other fictional stories to help people manage their trauma.

I still suffer from migraines and seizures today, but they’re much less frequent.

I’ve noticed that mindfulness, breathing exercises, and meditation have really helped make my pain more manageable. I’ve come a long way from believing I truly wouldn’t be able to make it into adulthood.

It took me until I was 31 years old to be able to talk about Chernobyl. For the longest time, even the word Chernobyl was very triggering for me. It’s a lot easier to talk about now, and the more I talk about it, the easier it gets.

Still watching HBO’s Chernobyl mini-series is another thing—even viewing the pilot was difficult, painful, and overwhelming. Seeing some of the characters being dismissive of the seriousness of the situation while seeing others dying from radiation sickness reminded me of the horrors that many of our people went through.

I found myself feeling the entire spectrum of possible emotions, including grief, horror, and sadness. I haven’t been able to watch more than the first episode so far—but one day, I hope I may have the strength to watch it all.

I have brutal migraines and seizures after being a downwinder in the usa with other severe radionuclide exposure and having leukemia as a child in a cancer clinic at age 7

    Editors’ Note, June 5, 2020:

After publication, this essay met strong criticism from many readers (and many Times colleagues), prompting editors to review the piece and the editing process. Based on that review, we have concluded that the essay fell short of our standards and should not have been published.

EVERYTHING HE WROTE IS MISINFORMATION AND LIES

The basic arguments advanced by Senator Cotton — however objectionable people may find them — represent a newsworthy part of the current debate. But given the life-and-death importance of the topic, the senator’s influential position and the gravity of the steps he advocates, the essay should have undergone the highest level of scrutiny. Instead, the editing process was rushed and flawed, and senior editors were not sufficiently involved. While Senator Cotton and his staff cooperated fully in our editing process, the Op-Ed should have been subject to further substantial revisions — as is frequently the case with such essays — or rejected.

For example, the published piece presents as facts assertions about the role of “cadres of left-wing radicals like antifa”; in fact, those allegations have not been substantiated and have been widely questioned. Editors should have sought further corroboration of those assertions, or removed them from the piece. The assertion that police officers “bore the brunt” of the violence is an overstatement that should have been challenged. The essay also includes a reference to a “constitutional duty” that was intended as a paraphrase; it should not have been rendered as a quotation.

Beyond those factual questions, the tone of the essay in places is needlessly harsh and falls short of the thoughtful approach that advances useful debate. Editors should have offered suggestions to address those problems. The headline — which was written by The Times, not Senator Cotton — was incendiary and should not have been used.

Finally, we failed to offer appropriate additional context — either in the text or the presentation — that could have helped readers place Senator Cotton’s views within a larger framework of debate.

This week, rioters have plunged many American cities into anarchy, recalling the widespread violence of the 1960s.

PEACEFUL PROTESTS AND FASCIST LIES FROM THE NYT WHO SUPPORTED THE PREEMPTIVE INVASION OF IRAQ AND WMD LIES
2 MILLION IRAQIS DEAD SO FAR

New York City suffered the worst of the riots Monday night, as Mayor Bill de Blasio stood by while Midtown Manhattan descended into lawlessness. Bands of looters roved the streets, smashing and emptying hundreds of businesses. Some even drove exotic cars; the riots were carnivals for the thrill-seeking rich as well as other criminal elements.

MANY OF THE LOOTERS WERE RIGHTWING PROVOCATIERS AND UNDERCOVER POLICE

Outnumbered police officers, encumbered by feckless politicians, bore the brunt of the violence. In New York State, rioters ran over officers with cars on at least three occasions

THIS PATHOLOGICAL  LIAR  PUTS IT BACKWARDS COPS AND WHITES HAVE SMASHED INTO GROUPS OF PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATORS WITH SUVS CARS AND RIGS

. In Las Vegas, an officer is in “grave” condition after being shot in the head by a rioter.

    TOTAL LIE.

In St. Louis, four police officers were shot as they attempted to disperse a mob throwing bricks

    MORE BLATANT LIES

and dumping gasoline; in a separate incident, a 77-year-old retired police captain was shot to death as he tried to stop looters from ransacking a pawnshop.

    ANOTHER LIE

This is “somebody’s granddaddy,” a bystander screamed at the scenes

HUNDREDS OF JOURNALSTS SEVERELY INJURED AND ILLEGALLY ARRESTED
THOUSANDS OF PROTESTERS INJURED, ILLEGALLY DETAINED. ILLEGALLY ARRESTED FALSE CHARGES. CRAZY MEN ATTACKING PROTESTING KIDS WITH CHAINSAWS . CRAZY MEN ATTACKING PROTESTING KIDS WITH GUNS SUVS, TRUCK RIGS. PEOPLE AND KIDS BEATEN WITH BATONS FOR NO REASON. PEOPLE AND JOURANLISTS SHOT IN EYES AND PERMANENTLY BLINDED BY PSYCHO COPS. PREGNANT WOMEN GASSED AND SHOT AT. PEOPLE MURDERED  BY COPS. VIOLENT WHITE SUPREMACIST OFFENDERS CODDELED BY COPS. LARGE NUMBERS OF FASCIST WHITE SUPREMACIST COPS IN POLICE DEPARTMENTS. DEMENTED PSYCHO DONALD TRUMP ENCOURAGING THEM TO KILL AND MAIM.PEOPLE OF COLOR. ENCOURAGING MASS SHOOTING AND INSURECTION
75 YO IN BUFFALO IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER COPS PUSHED HIM AND SAID HE FELL. CHILDREN MACED AND GASSED. DC PEACEFUL DEMONSTRTORS GASSED AND RBULLETED FOR PSYCHOTIC PSYCHOPATH TO MAKE FAKE PR WITH A BIBLE HE HAS NEVER READ AT A CHURCH WHERE HE WAS NOT WANTED

Some elites have excused this orgy of violence in the spirit of radical chic

    BLACKWHITE ORWELLIAN DOUBLETHINK

calling it an understandable response to the wrongful death of George Floyd. Those excuses are built on a revolting moral equivalence of rioters and looters to peaceful, law-abiding protesters. A majority who seek to protest peacefully shouldn’t be confused with bands of miscreants.

WE NOW KNOW THAT MOST PROTESTORS ARE PEACEFUL AND THIS FASCIST SCUM COTTON IS A  TREASONESS PROVOCATIER SETTING UP THE POSSIBLE MASSACRE OF HUNDREDS TO THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT AMERICANS.  CRIMINAL CHARGES SHOULD BE FILED AGAINST HIM AND HE SHOULD LOSE HIS OFFICE

TRUMP AND COTTON ARE FASCIST LIARS AND PSYCHOPATHS WHO HAVE ENCOURAGE RACIST SEDITIONS EGGED ON SADISTIC RACIST MASS SHOOTINGS,  MASS RACIST-SADISTIC CAGING OF THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN
SADISTIC RACIST KILLER COPS IN MILITARIZED POLICE DEPARTMENTS THAT USE ILLEGAL AI AND SURVEILANCE  . COPS THAT WANTONLY TORTURE AND MURDER CITIZENS AND DESTROY THEIR LIVES WITH VIOLENCE-FALSE ARREST AND MUCH MORE

But the rioting has nothing to do with George Floyd, whose bereaved relatives have condemned violence. On the contrary, nihilist criminals are simply out for loot and the thrill of destruction, with cadres of left-wing radicals like antifa infiltrating protest marches to exploit Floyd’s death for their own anarchic purposes.

NIHILIST CRIMINALS, MEANING COTTON AND TRUMP HIMSELF WHO ARE FASCIST PSYCHOPATHS THAT HAVE ENCOURAGED MASS SHOOTINGS AND POLICE MURDERING CITIZENS MORE THAN A THOUSAND A YEAR

THERE IS NO ANTIFA PATHOLOGICAL LIARS LIKE THEIR NAZI FORBEARERS

These rioters, if not subdued, not only will destroy the livelihoods of law-abiding citizens but will also take more innocent lives. Many poor communities that still bear scars from past upheavals will be set back still further.

One thing above all else will restore order to our streets: an overwhelming show of force to disperse, detain and ultimately deter lawbreakers.

AND SHOOT AND DESTROY THOUSANDS OF INNOCENTS EVEN CHILDREN

But local law enforcement in some cities desperately needs backup, while delusional politicians in other cities refuse to do what’s necessary to uphold the rule of law.

The pace of looting and disorder may
    fluctuate from night to night,

LOOTING BY RIGHTWING PROVOCATIERS AND UNDERCOVER COPS

but it’s past time to support local law enforcement with federal authority. Some governors have mobilized the National Guard, yet others refuse, and in some cases the rioters still outnumber the police and Guard combined. In these circumstances, the Insurrection Act

THE CREEP IS NON DEMOCRATIC AND ADVOCATES TREASONOUS USERPY AND MURDEROUSLY  TURNING TROOPS ON HIS OWN PEOPLE

authorizes the president to employ the military “or any other means” in “cases of insurrection, or obstruction to the laws.”

This venerable law, nearly as old as our republic itself, doesn’t amount to “martial law” or the end of democracy, as some excitable critics, ignorant of both the law and our history, have comically suggested. In fact, the federal government has a constitutional duty to the states to “protect each of them from domestic violence.”

Throughout our history, presidents have exercised this authority on dozens of occasions to protect law-abiding citizens from disorder. Nor does it violate the Posse Comitatus Act, which constrains the military’s role in law enforcement but expressly excepts statutes such as the Insurrection Act.

JUST OUT AND OUT LIES FROM A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR AND PSYCHOPATH WHO HAS NO VALUE FOR HUMAN LIFE. IT CERTAINLY  DOES  VIOLATE  THE POSSE COMITATUS ACT. THE INSURECTION ACT WAS DIRECTED AT SLAVES AND HAS BEEN NULLIFIED

After thousands of whites rioted in Oxford, Miss., in 1962 to prevent integration of the University of Mississippi, President John Kennedy sent U.S. troops to quell the violence.

ALL LIES AND INFLAMMOTORY WHITE SUPREMACIST MISINFORMATION AND PROPAGANDA

Anti-integration protesters at the University of Mississippi awaiting the arrival of the first African-American student, James Meredith.Credit…Getty Images
For instance, during the 1950s and 1960s, Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson called out the military to disperse mobs that prevented school desegregation or threatened innocent lives and property. This happened in my own state. Gov. Orval Faubus, a racist Democrat, mobilized our National Guard in 1957 to obstruct desegregation at Little Rock Central High School. President Eisenhower federalized the Guard and called in the 101st Airborne in response. The failure to do so, he said, “would be tantamount to acquiescence in anarchy.”

    MORE DISTROTION AND MISREPRESENTATION

More recently, President George H.W. Bush ordered the Army’s Seventh Infantry and 1,500 Marines to protect Los Angeles during race riots in 1992. He acknowledged his disgust at Rodney King’s treatment — “what I saw made me sick” — but he knew deadly rioting would only multiply the victims, of all races and from all walks of life.

    BUSH THE WAR CRIMINAL

Not surprisingly, public opinion is on the side of law enforcement and law and order, not insurrectionists. According to a recent poll, 58 percent of registered voters, including nearly half of Democrats and 37 percent of African-Americans, would support cities’ calling in the military to “address protests and demonstrations” that are in “response to the death of George Floyd.” That opinion may not appear often in chic salons, but widespread support for it is fact nonetheless.

    LIES AND PROPAGANDA

The American people aren’t blind to injustices in our society, but they know that the most basic responsibility of government is to maintain public order and safety. In normal times, local law enforcement can uphold public order. But in rare moments, like ours today, more is needed, even if many politicians prefer to wring their hands while the country burns.

The plutonium fires. The massive nuclear pollution. No place for the waste. Karen Silkwood style exections. Destruction and contamination of communities. Adults and children destined to get cancer, or be sick for the rest of their lives. Destroyed genome.
The people in south carolina should read Kristen Iversen’s Full Body Load.
All of the worthless evil, insane  politicians in dc  and sc, should be required to read Kristen Iversen’s,  “Full Body Load”. The criminal politicians should be forced the read passages of Full Body Load aloud, in congress and state houses.
The  evil nnsa bureaucrat- nucleoapes  should be required to read Kristen Iversen’s,  “Full Body Load.”
The deluded, amoral, atomic bomb, scientists should be required   to read Kristen Iversen’s Full Body Load, before they specialize in nuclear bomb making.  They should read it before they go work, in these evil portals of hell.
The evil military nucleoapes, contracters,  should be forced to read Kristen Iversens, Full Body Load. The plutonium laborers should be required to read  Full Body Load or, have it provided before they go in and get the spectrums  of illness and cancer from  being there. At the very least , they should be screened with iversens documentary.

Tom Cotton,  the nasty  fascist trump toadie, encouraged the insurection act be implemented on america . This evil monkey recently allocated funding for nuclear bomb testing to start again.  He did it for the fascist trump. Trump and him  should be forced to read helen caldicott, kate brown and kristen iversen. In trump and cottons  case it should be read to them clockwork orange style with the book pages projected on a screen in fron of them..
