NAIIC Report on Fukushima: Lessons Learned & Next Steps Forward
The National Diet of Japan Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission (NAIIC) was established to investigate the causes of the Fukushima nuclear disaster on behalf of the Japanese people and to make proposals on how to prevent nuclear accidents in the future. TEPCO admits lax risk management over tainted water
The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has admitted to insufficient risk management over contaminated groundwater.
Tokyo Electric Power Company made the admission in its first report to a panel of outside experts on Friday.

Japan’s Environment Ministry says 3 prefectures hit hardest by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami have cleared 75 percent of their debris.
The ministry estimates that the disaster generated almost 16 million tons of debris in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures. Around 12 million tons had been disposed of by the end of June.

Post offices across Japan to sell Aflac products
The Japan Post group says it will sell products of US life insurer Aflac at post offices throughout Japan.
The announcement came after the US government called the group’s insurance businesses unfair at bilateral talks.
Japan Post Holdings President Taizo Nishimuro told reporters on Friday that the state-owned firm will raise the number of post offices selling Aflac *CANCER* policies from 1,000 to 20,000.

Fukushima rezoning set to finish in August
Japan’s government is set to finish reorganizing all evacuation zones in Fukushima Prefecture as early as August. Reconstruction efforts may now enter a new phase.
The prospect emerged as the town assembly of Kawamata approved its mayor’s rezoning plan on Friday. The town is within 50 kilometers of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
It’s the last of 11 municipalities that were evacuated after the March 2011 nuclear accident to be realigned.
