Time for Tennessee to move away from nuclear and coal power

While air pollution would drop, TVA would add even more highly radioactive and dangerous leftovers to the already-growing quantities at its nuclear plants, he said.

“We need to get away from producing waste with energy production,” said Safer, chairman of the Tennessee Environmental Council in Nashville.

Safer’s comments were backed by at least two other speakers in a public hearing the Tennessee Valley Authority held on its draft long-term plan Wednesday night at the Music City Sheraton.
