how could Burma, Southeast Asia’s poorest country, possibly afford to finance a nuclear program? The answer involves the military regime’s partnerships with multinational companies, including some of the world’s largest and best known oil firms

Health Dept orders closure of leaking uranium mine
(USA) Closed uranium mine ordered to stop discharge, Google hosted news, (AP) 11 June 2010, DENVER — The owners of a closed uranium mine near Golden have been ordered by the state health department to stop discharging polluted water into a creek that flows into a Denver-area reservoir.The state health department is taking action because Cotter Corp. has been discharging pollution without a permit and uranium levels in the water are significantly exceeding the safety standard, Steve Gunderson, director of the state water quality control division, said Thursday.The agency sent the notice earlier this month. The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has sent a separate notice to Cotter saying it believes the company is violation of several state laws.State officials are concerned about rising uranium levels in Ralston Creek, which flows into a reservoir that supplies drinking water in the Denver area.

Australian uranium mine to come under Russian control

Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom involved in Iran, France, Australia
Russia and Iran would jointly run Iran’s first nuclear power plant that Rosatom plans to launch in August. Iran agreed to establish a joint venture with Rosatom to operate the plant because the country doesn’t have enough experience in maintaining such facilities, he said.In other news, Rosatom signed an agreement with the French Atomic Energy Commission to expand cooperation on reprocessing, decommissioning and isotopes technology.
In what could further extend Rosatom’s international reach, the State Duma is scheduled to ratify an accord between Russia and Australia on peaceful nuclear cooperation on Wednesday. Continue reading

Equipment for Iran’s uranium enrichment smuggled in via Dubai
Report: Iran smuggling German-made nuclear equipment via Dubai, Haaretz Daily Newspaper 06.06.10 Sunday Telegraph: Dubai intermediary sells Iran components bought from German manufacturer without its knowledge in violation of UN resolutions. Iran has been able to smuggle advanced technological equipment to its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz via a complex smuggling route based in Dubai, the Sunday Telegraph reported on Sunday.
According to the report, an Iranian company has purchased control systems from one of Germany’s leading electronic manufacturers. The deal was negotiated with a Dubai trading company, which in turn sold Iran a range of electronic equipment for use at its enrichment facility, the British website reported…..According to the Sunday Telegraph, Iran has smuggled German computers, controllers, communication cards and cables into Iran.
