Soldiers, cancer, and depleted uranium
Our soldiers are offered up for radiological contamination, and possibly death. A byproduct of the greatest weapon of all, an invisible carcinogen,
Democracy and depleted uranium, http://www.uruknet.info R. B. Stuart, April 20, 2010 Soldiers, like my sister, return from Iraq gripped by cancer. The US military says cancer isn’t a war wound…In March 2006, when my sister was 41, she was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive, stage-IV dysgerminoma cancer, also called “germ cell” cancer,…. Local government opposes nuclear waste dump plan
Canton slams radioactive waste plans, World Radio Switzerland, 21 April 2010, Plans for a radioactive waste disposal unit in the canton of Schaffhausen has come under fire in a study published by the local government. The National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste outlined two possible sites for the unit: one in Zurich Weinland and one near Sudranden in the canton of Schaffhasusen. That’s just a few kilometers from the city of Schaffhausen, where 80 percent of the canton’s population live and work.Today’s report says a disposal centre would have a detrimental effect on the town of Schaffhausen, and on the development of both the canton’s economy and population. The report estimates it would lose between 15 and 33 million francs in tax revenue a year and the population would drop by up to 5,000 people. Nuclear colonialism – sending radioactive wastes to developing countries?
Radioactive Waste Came From Abroad, Officials Say | India, THE FASTER TIMES, Jeremy Kahn, 19 April 2010, Last week, I reported on the disconcerting case of a bunch of radioactive Cobalt 60 turning up in a West Delhi scrap dealer’s shop, resulting in the poisoning of at least six people and a considerable amount of panic. Now,
The Wall Street Journal talks to nuclear scientists investigating the incident. They say that while they have not yet determined the source of radioactive metal, they are certain that it did not come from an Indian source…….As I mentioned in my initial post on this – the developing world has unfortunately become the dumping ground for all sorts of hazardous waste from the developed world. India has no compensation for victims of ionising radiation
Need law for damages to radiation victims’ indian express.com 21 April 2010, The government on Tuesday admitted its helplessness in providing adequate compensation to victims of radiation exposure in Mayapuri market in the absence of a specific law backing compensation to victims of radioactive accidents. Minister of State for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan told the Rajya Sabha that such a law needs to be enacted ……………Opposition parties said the incident was a “regulatory failure” and had exposed the government’s lack of preparedness to deal with radioactive incidents.
Heavy toll of AREVA’s uranium mining on Niger’s poor
Niger: French State-Owned Company ‘Poisoning’ Poor | Coalition Against Nuclear Energy, Julio Godoy, April 2010, Paris — Recent research by Greenpeace suggests that French state-owned company Areva’s public claims of decontamination of populated areas near uranium mines in Niger are false. High radio-activity persists in towns and rural areas near the mines, affecting some 80,000 people… Continue reading

India’s doctors ignorant of health effects of ionising radiation
“In their reply to the questionnaire developed by us to test their knowledge, most replied that MRI and ultrasound involves radiation exposure which is completely wrong,”
Doctors ignorant of radiation exposure effects: AIIMS, Press Trust of India, , Apr 19, 2010 Doctors who regularly subject patients to X-rays and CT scans are ignorant of the harmful effects of radiation exposure, a study at the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has found. Nuclear salesmen a jump ahead of the public and politicians
19 April 2010, Now, AREVA and others have convinced the world’s political leaders that their gee-whiz (though only planned, and untested), nuclear systems to re-use old nuclear fuel, are the answer to nuclear terrorism
How many ordinary people understand the words in nuclear technology?
How easily are we ordinary mortals told that it’s all too complex for us to understand. We should trust “the nuclear experts”, – who, by the way, would be out of a job if this expensive way of boiling water (nuclear technology), were to be abandoned.
Re-using dirty, dangerous old radioactive stuff produces even more dangerous radioactive stuff, which terrorists would, of course, like to get their hands on.
AREVA and the rest of them can call it Recycling, Reprocessing, Fast Breeder, Integral Fast Reactor – any fancy term to confuse us, They’re still just trying to sell us still similar expensive ways to boil liquids
Safest would be to shut down the nuclear industry, clean up as best we can, and call it quits for this 70 year old failed energy experiment
Nuclear Fuel Summit recycling decisions in the interests of AREVA
Former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans and former U.S. ambassador-at-large Robert Gallucci said that recycling creates stockpiles of dangerous materials at risk for theft
Nuclear-Fuel Recycling Debated , Nuclear Street, by Steve Heiser, 15 April 2010, Bloomberg: As Obama SummitNations voice differing opinions on the recycling of spent fuel at DC summit – Edited by April Murelio –According to a report by Bloomberg, debate over the recycling of nuclear fuel by reactor suppliers such as France’s Areva SA surfaced in Washington as U.S. officials sought to skirt the issue during President Barack Obama’s summit. VIDEO: Navajo Indians- cancers and environmental degradation from uranium mining
VIDEO, Native America, Discovered and Conquered » Blog Archive » American Indians and uranium April 17th, 2010 In what might be an example of environmental and economic racism, I believe that more than 50% of the uranium mining in the United States occurs on tribal lands. Tribal lands make up only 1% of the land mass in the lower 48 states.I just heard very disturbing evidence presented on very serious and very significant cancer clusters on the Navajo Nation reservation blamed on water and land contaminated with uranium tailings.Watch this video complied from a conference held on the Hopi Nation in November 2009 about this issue.
U.S. Army Video Shows Danger of Depleted Uranium
Hazards of Depleted Uranium Contamination Training DU Video | Engage Today
Engage Today, 18 April 2010, Between October and December 1995, the US Army’s Depleted Uranium (DU) Project completed a series of training videos and manuals about depleted uranium munitions. This training regimen was developed as the result of recommendations made in the January 1993 General Accounting Office (GAO) report, Army Not Adequately Prepared to Deal with Depleted Uranium Contamination. The training materials were intended to instruct servicemen and women about the use and hazards of depleted uranium munitions. In addition, the training regimen included instructions for soldiers who repair and recover vehicles contaminated by depleted uranium.
Taxpayer will be left with costs of nuclear decommissioning and wastes
The taxpayer will be left to pick up the bills. The very nature of private companies is that they make a profit when they can … but when they can’t they can be wound up, leaving others to pick up the pieces….
Nuclear fall out, Syniadau , 17 April 2010, “……The major issue is not the cost of building the stations (although that is of course an issue, although it would be one for the companies concerned) but the cost of cleaning up the waste they produce and of decommissioning the site when it has come to the end of its productive life. These costs are much, much greater than the cost of construction.
In principle, the government’s idea is that the power companies would set aside money each year so as to pay the costs of decommissioning and clean up. The fundamental flaw in that approach is that a private company can either go bust or refuse to honour its contract commitments at any time, in much the same way as happened when National Express walked away from the East Coast rail franchise last year. The taxpayer will be left to pick up the bills. The very nature of private companies is that they make a profit when they can … but when they can’t they can be wound up, leaving others to pick up the pieces….

Nuclear industry jumps on the Nuclear Security bandwagon
The big pitch to get “nuclear security” (now there’s another oxymoron) is being taken up by the nuclear lobby, with fervour. Let’s get new gee-whiz reactors that can use the old nuclear weapons fuel!
The world still ends up with even more toxic waste from these reactors. And the transport of the enriched uranium and plutonium? Still plenty of scope there for somebody to get hold of it and make a bomb. Even a “dirty bomb” will do. – our theme for April – Nuclear Power and Peace
Depleted uranium causing infertlity in Israeli soldiers
Research by an Israeli doctor shows a significant drop in sperm count level and sperm motility among young Israeli soldiers in recent years.
Israel’s Declining Sperm Quality Tied to Depleted Uranium Exposure, Atlantic Free Press, by Tim King, 16 April 2010 Israel’s population is facing a dire threat: a drastic depopulation, from the use of weapons that leave behind Depleted Uranium (DU). Depleted Uranium leads to the word Omnicidal, as DU kills everything in the food chain, everywhere the wind blows. Experts say the dramatic drop in Israel’s sperm count could eliminate their ability to reproduce. Continue reading
USA’s Nuclear Regulatory Commission ‘in bed with nuclear industry’
Over the years, it has become apparent that the NRC is clearlyIN-BED with the nuclear industry in the push to certify the old nuclear plants for an additional 20-years of operation. The NRC is clearly engaged in a great nuclear experiment with public health and safety hanging in the balance
NRC Wants to Dig Another $10-Billion Dollar Hole in the Ground for Nuclear Waste | Before It’s News , 17 April 2010, “………..The NRC along with the nuclear industry are desperately seeking a quick solution to this dilemma because the government continues to authorize licenses for the construction of more nuclear power plants in the USA.
