Wind, dust, carry depleted uranium far and wide
Australia ‘uranium’ dust concerns
muzzylogic Oct 3, 2009 ‘Environmentalists have raised concerns that another giant dust storm blowing its way across eastern Australia may contain radioactive particles.
It is argued that sediment whipped up from Australia’s centre may be laced with material from a uranium mine.
Scientists have played down concerns, saying there is little to worry about.’ Full story here
Well, now this is interesting. The argument against the spread is the fact that uranium ore dust is going to be too dense to be carried by the wind. However, if that turns out not to be the case then it will have serious implications for the clap trap nonsense the US military likes to spout as regard the use of depleted uranium munitions.
Clap trap because whether or not the dust from the mine tailings is too dense, the dust from DU is much finer grain and was deposited much closer to inhabited areas to start with. Of course, reports of the presence of abnormally high levels of uranium in the urine of people in Iraq and Afghanistan is a total coincidence to start with…
If uranium is found in the Australian dust, then the military argument will have no credibility at all.

Secrecy around nuclear energy’s connection with cancer
Risky Business What CPS won’t tell you about nuclear power
Walking behind South Texas Project Unit 1 with STP Operating Company spokesperson Cathy Gann.
San Antonio Current, By Greg Harman, 30 Sept 09
“…………..Nuclear power grew up in darkness.
Just as the atomic-weapons program that preceded it, nuclear-power research was considered “classified at birth” by the Atomic Energy Act of 1946. All information about the “the production of fissionable material, or the use of fissionable material in the production of power” was considered “restricted data.” That, of course, included candid discussions about the radiation risk posed by nuclear-power generation. French authorities try to silence anti-nuclear protest
Beyond Nuclear, Linda Gunter 25 Sept 09 With 10,000 people or more already expected to gather in the French border town of Colmar for an anti-nuclear rally on October 3, local authorities are attempting to renege on their agreement to allow the demonstration.
The rally, which will call for the phase-out of the nearby 30-year old Fessenheim reactor, the oldest in France, coincides with an expected decision to extend the reactor license for another 10 years. But now the prefect of Upper Rhine and the mayor of Colmar, both nuclear power advocates, are trying to move the rally out of the town center and away from the media spotlight.
Raising the specter of “German rioters”, news reports claim the authorities are preparing tear gas-armed police to disperse the rally. Beyond Nuclear joined many others in writing to the two officials, pointing out that their decision further confirms that the French nuclear system and democracy are incompatible.

Firstly, its destructive capacity threatens all forms of life, now and for millions of years to come; and secondly, its continued use institutionalizes hierarchical technologies of domestic energy production.
