Western powers now hoping that poverty will stop Iran’s nukes
The theory now is that rather than leading directly to a change of policy, the effect of the latest sanctions package will be to underline the cost of maintaining the nuclear programme. The positive message is that compliance with international demands would mean a scramble for western investment

Stop enriching uranum – U.N. Secretary General urges Iran
UN Secretary-General Ban urges Iran to desist uranium enrichment to 20%, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) 29 May 2010, – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Iran on Friday to end its continued efforts to enrich uranium to 20 percent purity, the UN News announced.Ban said that if Iran stopped its uranium enrichment it would build a mutual trust over the Iranian nuclear program which the Asian country claims is for purely peaceful energy production but that many nations, and mainly the U.S., see that as an effort to obtain atomic weapons.“I have been repeatedly urging to the Iranian authorities that they have to clear their nuclear program, that it is exclusively for peaceful purposes, and it is not meant for military purposes, and they should fully comply with the relevant Security Council resolutions,” Ban said.Iran continued with its uranium enrichment process even after it agreed to ship low-enriched uranium out of the country in exchange for high-enriched uranium for use at a civilian nuclear research site. President Obama losing credibility on environment
In his State of the Union speech, President Obama called for “a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants.” After issuing $8 billion in nuclear energy loan guarantees in February, the administration is poised to announce another $9 billion for the nuclear energy industry. The Energy Department also just announced a $2 billion loan guarantee to French-owned Areva Inc. for construction of a uranium enrichment plant in Idaho after a ban on such private facilities since the 1970’s.
Are Obama’s Energy Plans Jinxed?, THE HUFFINGTON POST, D.A. Barber, 26 May 2010, President Obama’s inability — or unwillingness — to take control of the Gulf Coast oil disaster seems to be part of a larger pattern. Many environmentalists say they feel betrayed by a president they thought would end, or sharply limit, many environmental horrors of the past. Continue reading
U.S. media bias in failing to report full story on Iran’s nukes
it seems, the United States isn’t ready to deal because the Obama Administration is afraid of Congress.
(VIDEO)Robert Naiman: U.S. Media Censors U.S. Support of Iran Fuel Swap
U.S. Media Censors U.S. Support of Iran Fuel Swap, THE HUFFINGTON POST, Robert Naiman, 25 May 2010, “……….But if you get your information from major U.S. media, here’s something that you almost certainly don’t know: Brazil and Turkey say that before they reached the deal, they understood that they had the backing of the Obama Administration for their efforts. The available evidence suggests that Brazil and Turkey had good reason to believe that they had U.S. support, and that the Obama Administration has taken a 180 degree turn in its position in the last few weeks, and is now trying to cover its tracks, with the active collaboration of major U.S. media. Iran planning new uranium enrichment facility
Iran to begin construction of new enrichment plant Tehran Times 20 May,2010, TEHRAN — Iran plans to begin construction of a new uranium enrichment facility by late March 2011, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali Akbar Salehi said on Wednesday.“This year (1389), after the preliminary stages are conducted, (we) will begin the construction of one of these plants,” Salehi told reporters when asked if any decisions have been made about the locations of the planned plants.Iranian calendar year 1389 began on March 21, 2010 and ends on March 20, 2011.In 2009, the Iranian government approved plans to build 10 new uranium enrichment plants………..

Iran’s storage deal: less of a worry than Israel’s nuke arsenal?
Iran’s Uranium Storage Deal, Craig Murray , 18 May 2010, -Iran undoubtedly pulled off a diplomatic coup with its announcement yesterday of a deal with Brazil and Turkey to store its low grade uranium. It is very hard for even the most ardent warmonger to claim that Iran is enriching uranium to make nuclear weapons, when that same uranium is in storage in Turkey….there is no indication that Iran has the ability for years to produce a nuclear weapon, and this arrangement makes that ever more plain. If any nation has a genune concern that Iran is seeking to develop a nuclear weapon, this agreement to remove almost the entire stock of uranium from Iran can only be welcomed. The failure to welcome this step by US and UK governments indicates that their actual agenda does not relate to Iran’s nuclear programme at all. And I still wait for a British minister to say something about Israel’s very real and very large stockpile of nuclear weapons.
