Watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmdILRvIdck Title: Masaki KITO, Attorney in Tokyo, on Fukushima and fishing  Oct 19, 2012

Masaki KITO, an attorney in Tokyo, is suing Tepco for ongoing damages caused by the Fukushima nuclear disaster: Let me be clear: Once an accident occurs EVERYTHING is over! Those who make a living from fishing will have zero prospects of ever restoring their fishing grounds after a single accident. […]

Accidents are more likely from mistakes in the siting of a nuclear plant. […]

Diablo Canyon [California, US] also needs a thorough study of its faults. The current assumption of seismic force seems to be grossly underestimatedbased on what we experienced in Japan. We’ve already experienced a M9.0 quake here. Similar sized faults anywhere in the world could produce another M9.0 quake. […]

Please understand once that happens, all will be lost. This is the reality of nuclear energy today.

Mr. Yastel Yamada, a retired engineer and founder of the Fukushima Skilled Veterans Corps: Now we need the storage of the excess water. It increases day by day. You can see some tank here, storage tank of the excess water.

Tanks are not sufficient at this moment. Tepco has dug a pit and lined with bentonite and polyethylene seal, and stored water underground, and then cover.

But if there were any earthquake again here, a crack would generate, I guess. And I don’t know why Tepco has decided to make underground [inaudible] for excess water. It can easily be discharged into the underground water.

Land of Hope – love, loss and nuclear power in Japan, Montreal Gazette October 21, 2012 Land of Hope is nothing like Sion Sono’s exuberant Love
Exposure (shown in Montreal at the Fantasia Film Festival).

It’s a sad, sober, quiet film that provides food for thought. I’m assuming that the titles is a bit of a sad joke because there isn’t too much hope here, actually. What hope that there is would probably die if exposed to the light of truth.

The movie imagines an additional nuclear power disaster, in Nagashima, Japan, after the one that really did happen in Fukishima, as a result of the earthquake and tsunami in 2011…..

AUDIO: new insights into why the nuclear industry is failing

Nuclear Energy Raises More Questions  http://blogs.abc.net.au/nsw/2012/10/nuclear-energy-raises-more-questions.html  ABC Radio 702 Sydney. Tim Holt interviews Derek Abbott,  Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, raises some very interesting practical considerations that will affect the future of this alternative source.  17/10/2012

TRANSCRIPT  – (best I could manage – Christina Macpherson)

PROF ABBOTT  – Very hard to say how much nuclear industry is going ahead. Nuclear power –  Some countries going ahead some countries pulling back. Not all so rosy in India. They are planning 60 nuclear stations. But In Tamil district 10,000 villagers demonstrating against local nuclear reactor, going on hunger strikes. Indian forces had to put out 4,000 security forces to control this problem. Needed large security force there.

Can nuclear power supply world’s needs? Could it ever be a reality?
My view is no. Nuclear power at the most could achieve only a very small slice of global energy pie. Can’t even supply half of the world’s needs. Continue reading

Criminal complaint filed against TEPCO and the Japanese government

1,324 Fukushima People Filed A Criminal Complaint Against TEPCO and the Government (Jun/11/2012)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xfSbZvBOwKM  Jun 13, 2012 by

On June 11, 2012, 1324 people from Fukushima Prefecture filed a criminal complaint against Tokyo Electric Power Co. Chairman Tsunehisa Katsumata and 32 others, accusing them of professional negligence resulting in death and injury, arguing they were responsible for causing the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant and the exposure of the plaintiffs to radiation.

In the written complaint filed with the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office, the complainants said the 33 neglected to take disaster countermeasures, despite the frequency of earthquakes in Japan and indications by experts of the possibility of tsunami. They also argued that the officials failed to release evacuation information appropriately, which led to residents’ exposure to radiation.

The 33 include TEPCO Chairman Katsumata, former TEPCO President Masataka Shimizu, 13 other TEPCO officials, Nuclear Safety Commission Chief Haruki Madarame, and 3 Radiation Health Risk Management Advisors of the prefecture including Shunichi Yamashita, Vice President of Fukushima Medical University.

“By holding them accountable, we will carry out our responsibility to the next generation,” says Ms. Ruiko Muto, leader of the complainant organization. “I hope our action will lead to reuniting our bonds disrupted by the disaster.”

They plan to file the second complaint where people outside Fukushima Prefecture can join the complainant. The dedline for joining is the end of September 2012.

VIDEO:the full story of the Fukushima nuclear disaster

http://www.thegreatplanet.com/nuclear-nightmare-japan-in-crisis-discovery-channel-documentary/ Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis – Discovery Channel Documentary (2011) By    Sep 09, 2012 Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis – Released on April 28th 2011, this Discovery Channel documentary film is about the earthquake tsunami and subsequent nuclear disaster that struck Japan in early 2011. It is produced by David Elisko and Nanette Harrison. Paula Zahn is the narrator of this Discovery Channel documentary film. This Discovery Channel documentary film does a detailed investigation into the reasons that made the Fukushima disaster one of the worst in world history.

It was the morning of March 11, 2011 when an earthquake of a massive scale occurred on the outskirts of Fukushima beach. This earthquake had not been predicted and the resulting waves it caused were also dangerously big. The quake’s massive jolts triggered a tsunami within minutes, and before the authorities could do anything to control the situation the first of the tsunami’s waves hit shore.

The Fukushima Nuclear Plant was also built near the seashore because it is much more convenient to have water from the sea cooling the reactor’s sensitive components. In this instance, this convenience turned awry and the waves caused serious damage to the reactor. These waves topped the nuclear plant’s designed seawalls and caused flooding in the reactor basement.

Contaminations from the environment combined with loss of electricity (onboard diesel generators stopped working as a result of flooding) meant the nuclear reactor could not get adequate cooling either. This caused the nuclear reactor to overheat and danger of a meltdown was also imminent. TEPCO declared first level emergency at this time and failed attempts at stabilizing the situation led to mass evacuations.

Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis – The Discovery Channel documentary film contains never before seen footage of the situation as it was unfolding, among other things we see a news helicopter flying over the nuclear site and hundreds of workers evacuating the nuclear power plant moments before the water hit. This incident has widely been quoted as the worst nuclear disaster in history after the infamous Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Estimates show that this disaster released almost two hundred times more radiation in the environment than the nuclear bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Mitsuhei Murata, Former Japanese Ambassador to Switzerland: In the US there are 31 [sic] units the same type of that of Fukushima nuclear plant. So, if the accident be spread too far that really embarrasses the US. So that is why the crisis of Unit 4 has been toned down recently. The USA is actually the main reason.

VIDEO: Nuclear waste disposal in Cumbria?

VIDEO Cumbria’s nuclear waste disposal dilemma is prolonged http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-19819973  BBC News 8 Oct 12 Britain needs to find a site for a long-term underground store for high level nuclear waste.

A site at Sellafield in Cumbria has been earmarked for the scheme which is potentially the size of a small city.

Experts say that waste stored at the site would be radioactive for thousands of years which has led to some environmental concerns.

As a result, a decision has been delayed until January 2013 when councillors will have to weigh up the economic benefits with environmental impact. Presenter Chris Jackson looks at this controversial project and visits a similar facility in Finland.

AUDIO:The worst scenario: nuclear fuel eating through concrete at Fukushima nuclear

AUDIO Nuclear Engineer: “This is the worst possible scenario” — I think the melted fuel has already eaten through the concrete at Fukushima plant   http://enenews.com/nuclear-engineer-worst-possible-scenario-melted-fuel-eaten-concrete-fukushima-reactor-audio/comment-page-1#comment-293133  October 4th, 2012  Interview with Nuclear Engineer Chris Harris Nutrimedical Report Oct 4, 2012

Chris Harris, former licensed Senior Reactor Operator and engineer: Their own word is that Tepco believes that the core is definitely eating through the floor, it’s already gone through the bottom of at least No 1’s reactor vessel, and he said eating its way through the concrete. I probably believe that it’s already eaten through the concrete. I think that’s past tense.

CNN talking heads, that’s what really annoyed me… don’t worry about it there’s containment, there’s this, there’s that. I said no, no, no, no, no this is the worst possible scenario, we’re talking about a core going through [inaudible] We’re finally getting some modicum of truth here, this is a recent as September 10, that’s from Tepco’s engineer’s own words. [Platts: “Tepco believes the uranium fuel […] poured to the floor of the containment structure, eating through a portion of the concrete floor of that area”].
