Olympic mascot radiation

In this 3rd video in the series (with more to come) we ask the Japanese evacuees about their children and if the Japanese are assessing their childrens health.

There is an understandable lack of trust in the government program and one of the evacuees did not want to give the Fukushima medical Hospital any personal information preferably.
Dr Oshyama does do an independent research on evacuees and is more trusted. She discovered the 2 thyroid abnormalities in the Mother and Daughter from the second video.

Other private doctors are used by evacuees even if they do avail themselves of the Fukushima Medical Hospital survey as the indepndent dictors are prepared to do more comprehensive testing.

One mother said she would continue getting the tests done twice a year so people in the future could use the data. This flies in the face of the nuclear lobby plans to reduce or stop testing teh Fukushima Medical Hospital survey and this campaign is headed by Prof Geraldine Thomas the “nuclear expert” (for the UK Ministry of Defense).

Also a question is asked about financial losses due to the nuclear disaster and the evacuation. One of the participants said that they had costs of about 45,000 dollars and only got about 30,000 compensation and loss of earnings were not included That came to another 45,000 dollars.

And a link here to the other 2 videos (more to come) and an update on the status of the campaign to support the evacuees in the United nations.

Malaysia won’t use nuclear power, says Dr M [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will not use nuclear power plants to generate energy, as science has yet to find ways to manage nuclear waste and the effects of radiation, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The prime minister said there have been numerous incidents related to nuclear use worldwide, such as in Chernobyl, Ukraine and the latest being Fukushima, Japan which led to people suffering from radiation.

Malaysia, he said, will continue to rely on existing fuel sources to generate electricity, such as fossil fuel, coal, hydroelectric dams and wind power, which he said is stable and environmentally-friendly.

“There are two things I am against. Smokers are not allowed to come near me and nuclear is not the solution to generating electricity,” he said in his keynote address at the launch of the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here on Tuesday.

Also present was Minister of Energy, Technology, Science and Environment, Yeo Bee Yin, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie.

Dr Mahathir said the country’s fifth and sixth prime ministers may have agreed to nuclear energy but “now I am back.”

He said despite advancements in science, a solution to nuclear radiation and waste has yet to be discovered. He said it is based on these factors that Malaysia is rejecting the use of nuclear energy, despite it being cheaper than fossil fuel.

Malaysia, he said, had a “bad experience” with amang, a type of irradiated ore once used to make colour televisions.

“Amang needs to be activated before being used. This however led to problems in the form of residue, which is radioactive.

“The radiation effects triggered fear among the community, we don’t want a repeat of this.

“Eventually, we agreed to bury this substance in an area which was one square kilometre large. We had to bury it under thick cement to prevent the radiation from affecting people,” said Dr Mahathir.

The prime minister said Malaysia lost one square kilometre of land as the area was still not safe, which also led to losses in terms of areas meant for development.

Dr Mahathir also touched on developments in the transportation sector, and said the price of electric cars could be double that of conventional vehicles.

Among the issues in the electric car market, he said, was the durability of the batteries which as of now, can only power the vehicle for a maximum of 200 km on a full charge.

“We could perhaps merge ICE (internal combustion engine) and an electric-based engine to tackle the battery durability issue.

“These are all in the research and development phase, so I hope that it will be successful thus helping Malaysia enter a new automotive industry era,” he said.

Korean defense chiefs sign ‘military pact’ after Kim & Moon adopt denuclearization roadmap

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have signed a joint statement following their bilateral talks in Pyongyang. The countries’ defense chiefs have meanwhile signed a separate military pact.

As part of the military agreement, the neighbors will halt border drills from November 1, Yonhap reports. South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo and North Korea’s No Kwang-chol also agreed to stop military flights in the vicinity of the demarcation line. In addition, the agreement envisions setting up a buffer zone in the Yellow Sea and suspending maritime drills.

As a clear sign of mutual trust, the Pyongyang military agreement also calls for the withdrawal of soldiers from the demilitarized zone and disarming the servicemen keeping watch at Panmunjom border village. The nations also agreed that each would close eleven border guard posts by the end of 2018.

The Koreas’ armed forces will establish and operate a “joint military committee” to discuss the implementation of the military agreement on a “permanent basis,” Moon Jae-in noted.

Speaking to the press on the outcome of Moon’s visit to North Korea, Kim noted that the “agreement at Pyongyang summit will advance an era of peace, prosperity.” Kim especially noted that the military agreement will help to denuclearize the peninsula and reach a lasting peace. He also agreed to travel soon to South Korea to meet Moon for the fourth time since the reconciliation effort between the neighbors began with the Olympic Peace diplomacy earlier this year. To emphasize their commitment to peace, the nations have decided to send a united team to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and will submit a joint bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics.

Moon meanwhile told reporters that the neighbors finally managed to agree to “specific denuclearization steps.” The South Korean president also noted that the leaders are striving to turn the demilitarized zone into a zone of peace, and that work will soon begin to reconnect cross-border rails and roads before the end of the year.

Moon arrived in North Korea on Tuesday morning for the third face-to-face meeting with his counterpart. Previously, the leaders held talks on April 27 and May 26 in the border village of Panmunjom, in an unprecedented effort to reconcile the two nations following the Korean War (1950-53). Part of Moon’s agenda for the trip was restarting the US-Korean dialogue that hit a brick wall last month, after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo canceled his visit to Pyongyang.

One of the major breakthroughs of the Pyongyang summit was the consent given by the North to allow international inspectors to document a “permanent dismantlement” of its key missile facilities. North Korea also agreed to closing its main nuclear complex in Yongbyon – although only if the United States takes reciprocal conciliatory steps, Moon told reporters. The Korean Peninsula should turn into a “land of peace without nuclear weapons and nuclear threats,” he noted.

The North expressed its willingness to continue taking additional steps, such as permanent shutdown of the Yongbyon nuclear facility, should the United States take corresponding measures under the spirit of the June 12 North Korea-US joint statement,” the joint statement said.

Geraldine Thomas calls an for all out CyberWar against those successful anti #nuclear #UNSCEAR

logo-cyberwars

Geraldine, dear Geraldine is at it again! Notwithstanding her recent debunking from Prof Keith Baverstock who claimed her advice to be dangerous forcing the BBC to eventually delete her Fukushima videos  from their website after many complaints from both pro and anti nuclear individuals.

In her latest call to arms Geraldine points out that radiation has no effect on wildlife but ignores the 70 + Peer reviewed papers of Prof Timothy Mousseau and his team that show many effects in wildlife and FLora and Fauna etc.

So , General Geraldine hopes to match anti nuclear activists on the internet whist ignoring the plethora of evidence that says there are problems, with little funding to find the problems.

Even so, using the ICRP model (that is highly contested in the Scientific community but is the standard) her measurements and advice were seen to be wanting, in fact dangerously so (See Fissionlines Damning condemnation on her with Prof Keith Baverstock). The nub of the problem lies in a 2014 (approx) meeting in Russia where the UK/USA contingent of UNSCEAR wanted to increase the dose allowed whilst others wanted it lowered. So, a status quo was agreed with the 1 mSv/y instead of 100mSv/y!

Here is her call to arms and her admission that the anti nuclear campaign online is beating millions of Dollars/Pounds of tax payers money of the nuclear PR machine (aside from unfair Google filtering, FB filtering and what ever the hell Twitter is doing etc). Roughly, at the same time Prof Chris Busby who has sat opposite her in court had his home raided and was arrested for 19 hours with huge media fanfare of the negative kind with little right of reply (Again), this is hardly a level playing field?

“…Thomas told delegates: “Start a dialogue now with all levels in society about why nuclear matters. The internet means everyone has a voice and expects their voice to be heard; we need to get our message out there as effectively as the anti-nuclear brigade do. There’s a need to put real evidence-based risks into a context that [people] can relate to. And hearts and minds will only change by dialogue.”….”

Return to Fukushima, Big Story CGTN

Published 31 August 2018
March 11, 2011. The day an earthquake and tsunami ravaged the northwestern part of Japan’s Honshu Island; the day the Fukushima nuclear power plant was completely destroyed; and the day the lives of 80,000 people were upside down – with forced evacuations, and no immediate plans for return.

Today, after partial decontamination operations, the Japanese government says Fukushima is ready to be inhabited again. But with former residents being encouraged to go back to the former exclusion zone, a new challenge surfaces: how does one start life anew, after being made flee more than half a decade before? How can residents ensure there is no threat to radioactivity in the place they used to call home? How does life get redefined when so much has been erased?

Return to Fukushima introduces us to three families exploring the dangers – and desires – of finally going home and explores the difficult journey the residents of Fukushima still have to take.

Baskut Tuncuk has finished his report on workers (globally) who are exploited here
A vicious form of exploitation: workers poisoned by toxic substances, says UN expert
GENEVA (12 September 2018) – Exposure of workers to toxic substances can and should be considered a form of exploitation and is a global health crisis, says a UN expert.
On Wednesday, UN Special Rapporteur on hazardous substances and wastes, Baskut Tuncak, told the UN Human Rights Council that governments and companies must strengthen protection for workers, their families

“and their communities from any exposure to toxic chemicals”.

37th HRC Session: Oral Statement on the Situation of the People Affected by the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster

Japan: Fukushima clean-up workers, including homeless, at grave risk of exploitation, say UN experts
GENEVA (16 August 2018)
“Detailed reports that the decontamination contracts were granted to several large contractors, and that hundreds of small companies, without relevant experience, were subcontracted, are of concern. These arrangements, together with the use of brokers to recruit a considerable number of the workers, may have created favourable conditions for the abuse and violation of workers’ rights.”
The UN rights experts have engaged in a dialogue with the Government since last year and have taken into account a recent reply to their most recent concerns.
As part of its Universal Periodic Review, Japan recently ”accepted to follow up” on a recommendation from other States to restore radiation levels to those before the disaster to protect the human right to health of pregnant women and children, among several other recommendations.

“The experts strongly urge the Government to lower the allowable dose of radiation to 1 mSv/year to protect children and women who may become pregnant.”

The UN experts remain available to advise on how best to address the ongoing issue of exposure of workers to toxic radiation following a previous response by the Japanese Government, and on the need to strengthen protection for workers.
In September, one of the UN experts, Baskut Tuncak, will present a report to the UN Human Rights Council, calling on States and employers to strengthen protection for workers from exposure to toxic substances, and proposing principles in that regard.

And finally a new report has come out concerning unreported deaths during the nuclear accident evacuation. Breaking!

TEPCO lawsuit: Futaba Hospital Patient Death is caused by the Nuclear Accident – Nurse’s Testimony

Google translated

Mainichi Newspaper September 18, 2018 22:01 (Last updated September 18 at 22: 1)

The Tokyo District Court (Kenichi Nagabuchi), the 26th trial of the three former management teams who were forcibly charged with negligence resulting in death and injury in business around Tokyo Electric Power Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant incident, caused the accident damage The situation was first heard. A woman who was a nurse at Futaba Hospital (Okuma Town, Fukushima Prefecture) where many patients died from the evacuation shelter appeared as a witness and presented the view that “the patient died was caused by a nuclear accident” It was.

According to the indictment and others, the former management team neglected countermeasures even though a massive tsunami struck the nuclear plant and it could be predicted that an accident would occur, three former management teams invited an accident in March 2011, About 44 kilometers away from the hospital in the same hospital were reported to have died.

On the morning of this morning, the appointed attorney for the prosecutor’s office recited the record written by the prosecutors about doctors and staff of the hospital, self-defense officers and police officers who rescued immediately after the earthquake to listen to the prosecution. He insisted that the patient died due to lack of cooperation among related organizations, long-term movement, the medical environment of the evacuation destination, and so on.

In the afternoon’s trial, a woman who was deputy general manager of the hospital of the same hospital testified the evacuation situation of the patient. “If nuclear accidents did not occur and the patient was able to return to Futaba Hospital from the evacuation destination, I could keep a few more (life) because I could use medical instruments and medicines.”

The deputy director of nursing also revealed that he was already aware of the patient who had already died in the bus while traveling for a long time before arriving at the evacuation destination, and explained that “the face was so like it and it was shocking” [ie her patients looked shockingly pale (a sign of a critical condition or being very ill)] . “There were also patients wrapped in white protective clothing and falling under the seat” and looked back on the harsh conditions at the time.

In the trial, since the second deadline of January this year, witness interrogation continued, the hearing has been continued over the recognition of the former management team’s tsunami countermeasure. 【Iida Ken, Okada Ei】

“Nuclear accident occurred –> patients evacuated from the hospital –> patients were removed to a location without required medical treatments or equipment –> patients died ie killed”  ]

This Image shows the bomb squad turning up at 6.30 pm

A friend of Chris was staying at his souse and was out in Bideford town when she had an emotional issue. She was approached by the police and then the police phoned Chris to make sure he was her friend and that he was acting in a carer role. Chris confirmed that she was living at his home in Bideford.

It would seem that the police escorted her back to Chris`s house and then entered the property. According to reports by Devon Live.

Police began searching the house after they saw his laboratory. They spent 3 hours in the premises causing a large amount of speculation withing the local community who mostly knew who he was . After 3 hours 2 fire engines and their staff were then parked up near the house. nearly six hours later, it was the turn of the bomb squad! And while all that was going on “experts” had been called in to assess Chris`s laboratory materials.

The whole affair generated 2 dramatic headlines causing locals to mention SARS, Bomb threat, chemical threat and possible terrorist threat.

At no time after the initial call in the morning did the police etc call Chris again. He has sensitive experiments on the go concerning radioactive mud from Sellafield to name but one.

For those not aware of the all encompassing powers of the UK Prevent Strategy and the Fusion Doctrine (Yes these are actual legal powers) I would advise you to do some research if you live in the UK. Also, check out the new (from April 2014) Official Secrets Act definition called “Official Sensitive” (This stops authorities responding to Freedom of Information requests as well as many other areas where transparency is now a thing of the past in the UK. Both the UK and USA has declared cyber and real war on left wingers and right wing people not towing the line.

There is more to come on this story but I am awaiting some more information. Chris is using some new arguments to challenge the issue of health effects and cancer, are the MOD really that worried about Chris challenging their posits? In the meantime I have documented the articles on a short video and made some comment on the situation on my youtube channel (arclight2011).

Thank you for all you do Chris! Yablakov would be proud of your actions (re JA) !

Sean Arclight 12 Sept 18 The Police have raided Chris Busby home in Bideford under the excuse of helping a woman (A friend who is staying at the house).. They used that as an excuse to gain entry and then reported suspicious materials (Chris`s scientific equipment, experiments (including radioactive mud from \Sellafield.) and materials..
So, the police were in the house for 3 hours before they called in the fire brigade. They have said there is no risk to local houses..
Even though Chris is obviously on Domestic Extremist database (run by MI5), the didnt call him up to late this evening. They had talked to him earlier concerning the lady and he confirmed she was his friend.
How odd that they have not told Chris that the terrorist squad, police, fire fighting department, bomb squad and special “experts” have concerns without asking his directions on the materials in his home lab. here are the two headlines generated on devon live ;
Bomb squad in Bideford after major police incident
Major incident in Bideford as police and fire crews flood town

The Uk gov. new prevent strategy and numerous recent anti terror legislations might have Chris a bit concerned.. As it should all activists and independent scientists..

There is one more part to this.. But I will let the news come out first officially before i give my honest opinion with this developing situation.. As chris is starting to win the arguments in his court cases, i believe, A direct attack (as has been happening to him for some months now in small ways) is now under way.. the 3 hours were to search for any incriminating evidence.

#Fukushima – An unresolved life #ONHCR #InternalDisplacement @NRC_Norway

Repost According to Ms. Sonoda, the Government of Japan does not recognise those uprooted by the Fukushima accident as internally displaced persons, although 20 years ago the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement acknowledged human-made disasters. Further, they have not been allowed to participate in the Government’s decisions that affect them.

“We don’t want to return with children and stay in radioactive and contaminated areas. We can’t see radiation, we can’t smell radiation,” Ms. Sonoda says. “We really need the Government to check the children’s health. They only scanned for thyroid cancer but no other health checks were made. We don’t know how [radiation] will affect children in the future.”

“Many people also struggle financially so we need basic housing support to stay evacuate,” she adds.

Over 40 million people around the world are currently internally displaced because of conflict and violence in the world, and an average of 25 million people is displaced each year due to natural disasters. Millions of other displacements are not systematically captured including those caused by land grabs, slow-onset disasters such as drought, and criminal violence…..

Ms. Sonoda was living in Fukushima, Japan, with her husband and their child in a beautiful natural environment and with a strong local community. The day of the nuclear disaster, 11 March 2011, they felt an enormous earthquake and unrelenting aftershocks. They later saw the explosion of reactor one, live on television.

“It was a massive shock. We began preparing in case we needed to move quickly and two days later reactor three exploded,” she recalls. “We decided to evacuate because we knew reactor three used mops fuel which contains plutonium. It was a nightmare. Suddenly the nuclear disaster destroyed our lives in Fukushima.”

With the Mayor and the local school, Ms. Sonoda tried to arrange the evacuation of children but she says the local Government stopped them. Because of the damage caused by the earthquake, roads were blocked; the provision of food and fuel started to…

The Irish Sellafield nuclear accident fallout projection report has some issues, in my opinion.
In December 2016 the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published in Irish Media Sources a report on radioactive fallout from a “worse case” scenario.
At the time, I was in contact with the Irish EPA concerning new evidence that shows a larger health effect from radiation sources and I was trying to challenge the pro nuclear bias that underestimated the health and environmental problems using mechanisms from the EURATOM nuclear treaty in Europe. I have to say that the Irish EPA were forthcoming in their many responses to my inquiries but eventually we reached a stale mate as the EPA claimed that the specific Isotopes relevant to the Euratom Treaty are not to be found in Ireland with the exception of Iodine 131 which they claimed was unlikely to be a health problem. They said that other fission (from a nuclear reactor) isotopes were not found on the island of Ireland.
The 2016 report from the Irish EPA (link) shows, what I think, is a minimal dispersion of radioactive fallout with little impact to health or the environment. However, there are other reports of fallout plumes from the Sellafield site that show much worse contamination than the 2016 EPA report posits and I requested Prof Chris Busby (who had been involved with Irish activists and government groups concerning Sellafield) to do a report (Full report below) on the problems that seemed to be highlighted with the Irish EPA report.
Prof Chris Busby first consulted the online NOAA Hy-Split atmospheric projection software with the same date as the EPA report and got a completely different scenario showing most of Ireland being covered with meandering waves of highly radioactive particles and gases. He then consulted 2 other reports, one of which the Irish Government commissioned that was completed by 2014 using the European gold standard software fallout projection model that showed a large plume covering large sways of Ireland (reaching the south west coast).
It would seem that the 2016 report completely runs counter to the 2014 and earlier report as well as the Hy-Split projection whilst using the same date as the 2016 Irish report.
So the issue of the types of accident that the Irish EPA thought to be worse case scenario. A direct hit by a Meteorite was seen to be plausible but if a meteorite hit sellafield then much of the nuclear site would be lofted high into the atmosphere and more evenly spread around the globe. This would fudge the numbers for plumes that are moving nearer the ground.
No where in the report was the more likely and and more dangerous scenario of terrorists attacking the spent fuel pools causing low altitude fallout over many weeks that would cause a larger pollution incident that would effect local countries to the UK border such as Ireland, Norway etc.In fact such concerns have been reported in main stream media sources as well as government/private think tanks.

Thanks to Prof Chris Busby for taking the time off his busy schedule to compile a response to the Irish EPA report on Sellafields projected damage to Ireland.

Please feel free to leave a comment belowif you agree or disagree with any of the points raised, a discussion about this issue needs to be had.

Conclusion to report

The EPA 2016 report is unsafe and cannot be relied upon by the public, the media or administrators. The anonymous authors have shown extraordinary bias in every aspect of the report. They made elementary mistakes in their source term listing of isotopes, by including those which had short half-lives and will clearly not have been present in any significant concentration. They omitted a whole series of nuclides which are present in the tanks and the fuel pools. They choose a source term which is demonstrably too low based on available data, they choose a worst-case accident which involves only one HAST tank and only Caesium-137. They omit mentioning the spent fuel pools which are a highly likely site of a major coolant loss and subsequent fire or explosion. Their air modelling results are extremely unusual with implausibly narrow plumes, whilst a NOAA HYSPLIT model for the same day shows a completely different dispersion covering most of highly populated Ireland. Their surface contamination levels are 200 times lower than a previous computer model by Dr Taylor, which they must have had access to, and they fail to calculate the increased levels of cancer in the exposed population. This has been rectified here.

Historic releases from Sellafield to the Irish Sea have caused measurable increases in cancer and leukemia in coastal populations of Ireland. There is no doubt that the existence of Sellafield represents a potential catastrophic danger to the Irish Republic. A serious accident there could destroy the country and also most of Britain. As the Chernobyl accident effects showed, and the Fukushima accident effects will reveal (and in the case of Thyroid cancer have revealed) the ICRP risk model is unsafe for explaining or predicting health effects from such contamination. The Authors of the EPA 2016 report should be sanctioned in some way for producing such a travesty of the real picture, especially since they will have had access to the earlier study and modelling by Peter Taylor and the details of the COSYMA model employed by him.

The health impact on Ireland of a severe accident at Sellafield.

A criticism of the report “Potential radiological impact on Ireland of postulated severe accidents at Sellafield” Anon. (Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland: September 2016) with a re-assessment of the range of health outcomes.

Introduction

The nuclear complex at Sellafield in Cumbria, UK, has always represented a real danger to the Republic of Ireland. There has been and remains a chronic danger to the people of the East Coast of Ireland. First, radioactivity released from Sellafield under licence to the Irish Sea, particularly in the 1970s did not, as had been hoped, dilute and disperse in the sea, but instead became attached to sediment particles along the coasts and inlets of Ireland (e.g. Carlingford Lough, Drogheda) and the particles represented a cause of cancer and illnesses in coastal populations and those exposed through eating fish and shellfish. A court case (Herr and Ors. Vs BNFL) was supported by the Irish State and my organisation was funded by the Irish State for 3 years from 1998 to examine the contamination and health issue. Green Audit examined the cancer rates in small areas in North and mid Wales, and also in Ireland by distance from the contaminated coasts. Results were published in Busby 2006 and showed that there had been a significant 30% increase in cancer and leukemia in coastal populations of the Irish Sea [1]. The second issue of continuing interest is the danger of a serious accident at Sellafield at a time when the wind direction is from the East and airborne material passes across Ireland. This issue became more urgent and of interest to the Irish public after the Fukushima Daiichi reactor explosions and melt-downs in Japan in 2011. However, the potential outcome of such an accident had been part of a report by Peter Taylor [2] written in 1999 for McGuill and Company, the solicitors representing the Herr and Ors vs. BNFL case which was abandoned by the Irish State for reasons which remain unclear.

In September 2016, a report was produced by the EPA Office of Radiological Protection entitled Potential radiological impact on Ireland of postulated severe accidents at Sellafield. [3]. This anonymous report has serious shortcomings and errors which will be addressed here. A more realistic assessment of the potential impact of a serious accident at Sellafield on the Republic of Ireland will be presented here using the radiological risk models both of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP, [4]) and also the Model of the European Committee on Radiation Risk (ECRR [5]).

2. The baseline assumptions of maximum release.

2.1 The EPA worst case.

The EPA report discussed some possible accidents involving releases of radionuclides. It examined some potential sources of radionuclides but not others. It chose a number of possible scenarios, but excluded others. In general terms (and referring to Murphy’s Law, appropriately in this case of Ireland) it could not assess accidents which are totally unforeseen. Therefore, also in general, we should consider a worst case-scenario in which most of the radioactivity inventory of the Sellafield site becomes airborne at a time when the weather patterns were most unfavourable for Ireland.

For example, in Busby 2007 [1] the Windscale reactor fire was examined in some detail. At the time of the fire, which continued for some days, the main releases were initially offshore towards Ireland. This is contrary to the discourse promoted by the British Radiological Protection Board in 1974. It is, however confirmed by Air Ministry historical data. But the point is that at the time a cold front laying North East to South West was moving from Ireland towards England across the Irish Sea. This meant the releases from the fire and heavy radioactive rain fell along the front. This rain fell on the Isle of Man, and historical mortality data show a large increase in the death rate after this event. There have also been reports of significant birth effects (Downs Syndrome cluster) in County Louth reported by the Irish GP Patricia Sheehan, who died in an automobile accident shortly after beginning to follow this up.

In order to estimate the effects of a worst case, initially there must be a choice of the source term, that is, the quantity and radionuclide identity of the material released to the atmosphere.

The EPA report decided that this could be modelled as the contents of one of the 21 High Active Storage Tanks (HAST). The true content of one of these is unknown, probably also to the operators BNFL. The estimate for the contents was taken from a report by Turvey and Hone [6]. This is shown in Table 1 below where I note a number of concerns. In Table 2 I provide examples of some hazardous radionuclides not listed in the EPA source term table. In Table 3 I copy the source terms used by the British 1976 Royal Commission (the Flowers Report) [7]. Note that all these estimates are for a single or multiple HAST tanks on the tank farm and exclude explosions of the spent fuel ponds which could dry up and suffer prompt criticality. This could result from a domino scenario (see below).

2.2 Concerns about the source term table of the EPA 2016 report

Table 1 gives the source terms employed by the EPA report. It lists 13 isotopes. The table is an astonishing example of bad science, produced either through bias or ignorance. Since the table is apparently taken from another report by Turvey and Hone 2000, we can perhaps blame them for the original mistakes. I have included a column showing the half-lives of their isotopes. The main concerns are as follows:
It is perfectly clear than all but four of the thirteen will have physically decayed away by 2016. For example, a half life of Zr-95 of 65 days, at 1980 would by now have had 36 x 365 days to decay. This is 202 half-lives. There would be virtually none left of the listed quantity.
A significant number of seriously hazardous radionuclides which must be in the tanks are not listed. In particular we have Plutonium-239, Plutonium- 238, Plutonium-241, Uranium and other actinide alpha emitters including Neptunium-237, Radium-226, Carbon-14 and Tritium.
The overall total activity tabulated the EPA report is about 4 times less than the quantity in a HAST tank given in the report of the UK Royal Commission 1976 (Flowers) and the 1977 Windscale Enquiry which totalled 1.8 x 1018 Becquerels of Caesium-137 plus 1.4 x 1018 Bq of Strontium-90 plus 1.1 x 1018 Bq of Ruthenium-106 [8].
Why did the EPA report reduce the quantities assumed by the earlier reports? Why did it omit the dangerous actinides Uranium, Plutonium and Neptunium with the exception of Americium-241? Why did it omit a whole range of other radionuclides like Tritium and Carbon-14?
