Britain faces ‘substantial’ threat of recession if AI boom falters

Spending on the technology is propping up growth, economists warn
Soaring investment in data
centres and other AI infrastructure has propped up growth since the start
of last year, Oxford Economics said. Without it, growth would be tepid at
best. The warning comes after a heavy tech stock sell-off in recent weeks
driven by concerns that AI spending will not deliver the level of returns
hoped for. October marked the worst month for the tech-heavy Nasdaq index
on Wall Street in more than a year and a half.
