Environment Agency nuclear merger will digitise services

COMMENT . Despite Wind scale, despite Chernobyl, despite Fukushima, and all the evidence of nuclear workers cancer risks…..
They’re pretending that the nuclear industry is just like any other. That’s a lie.
The Environment Agency has merged its nuclear strategy and regulatory
functions into a single directorate as part of its response to the
Government’s Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce Review, in a move it says will
deliver faster, more predictable and more proportionate regulation of the
sector. Jo Nettleton, who will head the new directorate as director of
nuclear, said bringing the functions under one leadership structure creates
clear ownership for driving change, with clearer accountability, faster
decision-making and better escalation of nationally significant issues. Her
focus, she said, is on improving the pace, predictability and
proportionality of regulation while protecting the environment and
supporting public confidence. Writing on the agency’s blog, Nettleton said
the Government’s response to the review recognised the need for regulationto evolve alongside a rapidly changing sector. The agency set out its own
response in a letter from chief executive Philip Duffy to the Chancellor.
