Ethics, Nuclear Power, and Global Heating – theme for December 2019
“Ethics” seems to be a dirty word in this strange era in which “Economics”, (i.e money) is apparently the only credible argument for taking any action.
Yet, now, under those truly awful shadows of a heating planet, and nuclear conflict, ethics might be our only sane guide.
What are ethics in relation to climate and nuclear issues?
Surely – ethical behaviour, -behaving decently and honestly. In the face of these dire threats – this is the way to go.
Not that it’s easy. No-one wants to pay the price, – changed employment, lifestyle changes, increased taxes….
BUT – we have borrowed this world from our children, and great grandchildren. We need to return it in good condition.
This means facing up to the reality of all the effects of climate change, the horrors of nuclear weapons, the environmental poison of ionising radiation.
And then – taking action on all levels, from the personal to global co-operation. A tall order? It means plain, honest, speaking, just treatment of under-privileged groups and countries, taking investment out of dirty industries.
An impossible order? Perhaps, but it would be a shame not to try. Even in this period of ethically and often environmentally ignorant , narcissistic national leaders Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Boris Johnson, Jair Bolsonaro, Scott Morrison …….still there are thousands of individuals and groups working for a clean and nuclear-free planet.
We don’t need to be taken in by the big words and twisted arguments of the fossil fuel and nuclear industries and their bought politicians and journalists. The facts on climate change are clear. The facts on nuclear dangers are clear.
Even the economic facts point us to climate action and to scrapping nuclear power and weapons. But surely, human beings can do better than that, and be guided by ethics.

I saw a really sad tragic movie called the last christmas. the movie is supposed to be a romantic comedy. its was a very good movie but i think the british and american societies know how fucked up things are. The cognitive dissonance, the anxiety, the desparate poverty that u feel and see everywhere. The unravelling, is reflected in what they pass as comedy. i met some kids from london where the film was made a few years ago. They said there are ungodly numbers of homeless people in london sleeping outside in that cold rainy city. it is worse now. Another country run by fascist plutocrats. the protagonist asian guy in the film remilds me of sean mcgee who was a computer guy and scocial worker in london. Sean had to flea england because spycops harrassed him into oblivion for his antinuclear activity.
Sounds a rather tough film. Another scary one is the new TV series from UK, Emma Thompson’s “Years and Years”

They did exactly what George w Bush did in America, in 2000 and 2004. They had the media rail that exit polls showed bush won in 2000 and 2004 . The exit polls were of course all fake.
The toreys did the same thing, late in the day of UK voting this time. They used exactly the same playbook.
The difference is, that the republicans had slimey electronic voting everywhere after 911 and the patriot act in 2004.
In 2000, in America they suppressed voting, blocked poll stations and sent army’s of lawyers across the country and mainly to Florida to rig the votes and contest hanging chads to the laat minute so that the election was taken to the supreme court.
In 2004, with rigged electronic voting machines, they flipped votes, purged voting roles, had the media lie in unison about exit polls sayin Bush had won , kept people from voting in key states and essentially rigged the whole election. Thus we have Iraq and the the ongoing Afghanistan quagmires.
In America the corporate criminal democrats are more than happy to share power, with fascistic, fake-antigolabist war mongers, like trump and its army of neoconservative war mongers.
