(Translation by Mia)
When a parent whose baby had been born with polydactyly contacted Fukushima Medical University to ask for an operation for their child, they were told that they were very busy operating on babies with the same condition and had more than a hundred on their waiting list. They were also told they would have to wait another one or two years before the operation could be performed, as the bones in the fingers and hands need to be well developed.

a chicken with polydactyl? be great if you could get a clear picture with a local fukushima newspaper or community brochure as a backdrop (showing the date) .. in fact i realise that taking pictures of the children in japan will not happen because of the culture, but surely a picture of a hand or foot with the newspaper backdrop would be possible..
Domo Arigato costarica san!
I’m not buying it. Not without real data. This is a completely unverified claim. So far, none of the crazy claims about Fukushima effects have materialized. This is probably a perfect example of the post hoc ergo propter hoc logical fallacy. BTW the incidence of polydactyly is generally thought to be between 1 in 500 to 1 in 1000 live births. Looking at the best data I can find on Chernobyl published in Reproductive Toxicology (a journal with a decent impact factor) http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0890623803000728, prior to the meltdown the incidence of polydactyly in the regions of Belarus most effected by Chernobyl was 0.51 per 1000 births and 0.58 per 1000 in control regions (no contamination from Chernobyl fallout). After the meltdown the rates were 0.97 per 1000 and 0.69 per 1000 respectively. Later time points were 1.29 per 1000 and 1.18 per 1000, respectively. The incidences went up in both regions over the entire period analzyed (1983-1999). Of course, the incidence rate was higher in the affected regions, but these numbers are still within the general incidence rates for polydactyly anyway. There could be many reasons for the increase that weren’t directly due to fallout of radiation or toxic metals (my guess is increase in reporting of cases, and better awareness). What this unsubstantiated blog post is suggesting is many orders of magnitude worse than Chernobyl, which was a much worse disaster than Fukushima. “100s” of polydactylies due to Fukushima when you would expect maybe one for every 1000 births? Completely illogical. It’s a terribly irresponsible claim that is of dubious plausibility.
Thanks for your comment.. interesting stats.. Lets see if this report can shed some light on why i think this report has credibility.. And i will not even have to consult Yablakovs 2nd revidsed addition that is accepted everywhere but at Oxford press.. UK SMC experts on that one i am afraid.. anyway heres the evidence
An 81 percent increase in the worst effected areas.. with these figures marked as significant..-

in fact the incidence in the worst effected area was 0.10 per thousand rising to 1.01 after the accident..
The control group was 0.26 rising to 0.48 (They picked a high incidence area as a control??)
And the under 379 Bq/m2 areas less effected by chernobyl
0.30 to 0.63 per thousand
So it looks like the higher area had a dramatic increase considering the population is more spread out than in japan..
that means that this story blogged by a Fukushima mother could actually have a some credibility.. thats why i posted it..
it has more credibility than the ongoing cover up at the
“Fukushima Medical Hospital ” that is connected to the outright liar Professor Yamashita.. And the UK Science Media Centre (via the Australian SMC, then the Japanese SMC), BBC etc

in real terms to clarify .. there used to be 4 children born with it and by 1994 it had increased to 55 .. the stats dont explain the horror, do they?? small indices means large numbers and Japan had about 20 million people under the plume..
Also how many people have left the worst areas in Belarus? There are alot of applications for migration which can be gleaned by looking at various countries stats.. Also the belarus figures show less people in the area..
I dont think the stats are relevant here.. Human beings should be measured in real terms not statistical ones..
but that me.
For instance stats show no health effect, therefore the boomin thyroid cancer count is not a health effect .. it must be to do with something else? but what? the thyroid association of the UK has denied any possibility of these effects being attributable to contamination from daichi.. Go figure that out!!
Stats are guidlines at best but not real world data imo
Hate to associate myself with pro-nukers, BUT – I’m not buying it either. Logically – it sounds too soon for those kinds of results from Fukushima radiation. Unfortunately – no-one seems to keep proper, or indeed, any, registers of birth deformities. Therefore no baseline from which to measure
Birth deformities might well be expected in later years or decades, due to internal emitters of radiation. Even then , it would be hard to prove the connection, without a national register of birth deformities.
Per Wikipedia: “This image was selected as picture of the day on the English Wikipedia for January 20, 2005, and April 7, 2006”. So not a representation of a child who actually resides near Fukishima.
hi fijthai
we are trying to source pictures but there is a strong cultural bias at showing the kids hands.. something to do with hiroshima and nagasaki victims and how people treat them. the picture clearly shows wiki as source.. there is a bad picture of a chicken with four toes on this comments also.. i have asked for a fukushima newspaper in the background to prove date and place..
OK, thanks for the clarification. By the way, I have a chicken with 5 toes on the front of each foot and no toe in the back. (There should be 3 in the front and 1 in the back) and we live in NC, USA…so…..?? (And I’m not disputing that Fukishima is BAD….I’m just not sure that these deformities don’t happen for other reasons and other causes, with the same frequency, in other locations)…..
radiation helps triggers many different genetic abnormalities but so does heavy metals and other pollutants. epidemiological studies by independent scientists in this area are rare as there is no funding forthcoming since last year.. only cancer research and selected projects get funded now, so there will be less independent stuff..
Get some proper photographic evidence.
How about you get out and find some? We are not a photography outfit, and indeed we have just about no resources and no funding.- rely on what we find or are given from news sourcs
hi there ..
The Japanese culture is not known for its openness in admitting genetic defects in their families, especially to do with radiation since hiroshima and nagasaki.
We asked for people to send in photos with the hand in front of a local newspaper but because of the edward snowden revelations and the Japanese government doing a deal with the Uk and USA in “security matters” people dont want to come forward ..
Added to the fact that no one wants to go to prison because of the new Japanese secrets laws, it is unlikely that we will get any evidence except for the discussion that was translated from Japanese internet conversations..
But you probably are aware of all this.
So, the question is, do we trust the source of the translation? and for me the answer is yes as i know that person and am aware of a security operation against the blogger in question.. It scared the hell out of the blogger and the blogger has retired .. This makes me think that the information is likely to be accurate .. Also, there is evidence (above ) of polydactyl after Chernobyl and we show how the statisticians for the pro nuke extend the years to reduce the average .. More cover up and manipulation ..
so it is up to the specific reader to take the information as it is presented and look at the facts i have outlined here and above ..
Thank you for your input, however short and anonymous..
regards
