Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant uneconomic- to be shut down

Exelon may shut down oldest nuclear plant in U.S.Chicago Breaking Business March 18, 2010 Associated Press | Chicago-based Exelon Corp. says it will shut down the oldest nuclear power plant in the U.S., rather than build cooling towers mandated by environmental regulators in New Jersey. Exelon says the $800 million that it would cost to build the towers is more than the 40-year-old Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station is worth…..Earlier this year, New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection required the plant to build one or more cooling towers instead of relying on water drawn from the Oyster Creek in Lacey Township in New Jersey to cool the reactor.

The state says that process kills billions of shrimp and tens of thousands of fish, crabs and clams each year.

Why is the mainstream media avoiding the depleted uranium issue?

So how come this isn’t a headline?

Depleted Uranium: A War Crime Within a War Crime, Creative-i ,  By William Bowles, 18 March, 2010 — Creative-i.infoAs if destroying a country and its culture ain’t bad enough, how about destroying its future, its children? I want to scream it from the rooftops! We are complicit in crimes of such enormity that I find it difficult to find the words to describe how I feel about this crime committed in my name! In the name of the ‘civilized’ world?…..

Even the BBC was forced to acknowledge the reality (Listen: ‘Child deformities ‘increasing’ in Falluja’ 4 March, 2010). True to form I searched the BBC Website in vain for the video clip I watched last week, so you are spared the horrific scenes I witnessed, recorded in Fallujah’s main hospital. Had this been Saddam’s legacy, we would have seen images like the one above endlessly repeated in mass media, complete with UN resolutions and the like.

So how come this isn’t a headline?

The hypocrisy of Australia selling uranium to Russia

It’s amazing, the way that elected leaders can just go back on the promises that got them elected in the first place.  Australia, as a federal government, and states like South  Australia, have this wonderful ability.

When it comes to helping their  corporate overlords to make very many fast bucks,  Kevin Rudd’s Australian government has no problem in ditching their own inquiry about selling uranium to Russia.

Just as Russia goes ahead promoting Iran’s nuclear power, and Kevin Rudd has the gall to continue to pose as a world leader in nuclear disarmament.
