UK test veterans aging, as they await possible compensation

AN MP is demanding the Government stop wasting cash fighting nuclear-test veterans in court – and says ministers should instead use the money to compensate them immediately.
South Derbyshire MP Mark Todd said the millions the Ministry of Defence was spending on lawyers would be better used settling with veterans……
About a thousand survivors of the Pacific tests claim the fallout left them with cancers and rare disorders and their children and grandchildren with birth defects.
A legal decision made in June gave the veterans the green light to try to sue the Government – if they won it is estimated the case may lead to compensation of £100m for some 3,000 survivors. But the MoD then lodged an appeal against the decision in an attempt to block the vets from even launching a bid….http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/news/pay/article-1571866-detail/article.html
