Ukraine merging into Russia’s nuclear empire?
Ukraine hooking up on Russian nuclear energy, too? FT Energy Source , April 27, 2010 by Kate Mackenzie”.…..on Monday night, Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin made a “large-scale offer” to Ukraine to merge their nuclear power generation businesses. The FT reports:
“At issue is large scale co-operation between our nuclear sectors. We are offering to establish a major holding, which would unite our generation, nuclear engineering and nuclear fuel cycles.”

Region’s death toll from Chernobyl nuclear accident close to 1 million
Chernobyl exploded in a remote backwater of an impoverished region. But by official accounts from Ukraine and Belarus, it did $500 billion in damage just there. Nowhere in the US would the property damage be remotely that small. The near-million death toll would be a mere fraction of how many would die here.

Hanford toxic nuclear waste – cleanup deadlines proposed
New Hanford radiation cleanup deadlines proposed , Seattle pi. 23 April 2010, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS TRI-CITIES, Wash. — The Department of Energy and its regulators have agreed to new cleanup deadlines for radioactive waste that has been temporarily buried since 1970 at the Hanford nuclear reservation.The Tri-City Herald reports the deadlines would allow more time for some work but also add new deadlines. They include deadlines for when some of the waste must be shipped to a national repository in New Mexico known as WIPP, for Waste Isolation Pilot Plant….The cleanup changes have been in discussion for more than a year. Russia accused of involvement in smuggling of enriched uranium
Saakashvili accuses Russia of supplying enriched uranium to Caucasus, News.Az 23 April 2010, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili accused Russia “of creating unstableness”.According to RBK, in the opinion of the Georgian leader, the unstableness enables the smugglers to deliver the highly enriched uranium to the Caucasus………..The Georgian leader underlined that Russia should be responsible for maintaining control of the nuclear weapon distribution in these territories so long as “it has occupied them”. In his opinion, the incidents with the highly enriched uranium threaten Georgia’s safety.
