Well, head on over to Ontario in Canada where the people there ‘paid Bruce Power nearly $60 million in 2009 to not generate electricity for the province’…The people of Ontario got ‘a bargain’ for handing over $60 million for something they didn’t need and didn’t get.

Mohawks join opposition to shipment of nuclear wastes over Great Lakes

Mohawks will not stand for nuclear shipment By Michelle Lalonde, Montreal Gazette September 30, 2010 The Mohawk community of Kahnawake is determined to stop a plan by Ontario’s Bruce Power to ship 16 massive steam generators from its nuclear facility in southwestern Ontario along the St. Lawrence Seaway for recycling in Sweden.”The fact that the Seaway was built through our territory without our approval in the first place is bad enough,” said Clinton Phillips, the chief responsible for environmental issues on the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake.

“To use it to transport nuclear waste literally through our backyard would be adding insult to injury in a huge way. There is absolutely no way we’ll stand for it.”……………

Great Lakes nuclear shipment plan opens door for dangerous nuclear trafficking

Inquiry wanted into uranium mining plan for caribou country

Last spring, the regulatory process began for the $1.5-billion Kiggavik project, a uranium mine proposed for just west of Baker Lake by French uranium giant Areva. It is the first such mine to come before the Nunavut Impact Review Board and the first proposed for the wildlife-rich Thelon Basin, home to major caribou herds.

(Canada) Nunavut residents want inquiry into uranium mine – CTV News, 14 Sept 10, The tiny, remote community of Grise Fiord on the frozen shores of Ellesmere Island is nearly as far as it gets from the giant uranium mine proposed for the southern tundra near Baker Lake.

Cameco uranium company spins a yarn on ionising radiation

The Nuclear Industry copies the Tobacco Industry. Same old tactics. You cast around to find a scientist willing to be paid to say that your product is “healthy” and “clean”.

Cameco uranium mining company is running “Community Liaison Forums”. And guess what? They’ve found that low dose ionising radiation is not only healthy – it even prevents illness!

Not a surprise, really, from Cameco. For years they’ve been pitching radiation to kids, as a fun thing. (picture at left from Cameco’s brochure for kids)

BHP Billiton, starts with potash – then on to uranium mining.

by Christina Macpherson, 21 Aug 2010. International mining giant BHP Billiton has an agenda for world-wide uranium mining leadership, as well as a history of world-wide inadequate treatment of indigenous people.

Unable to convince Australian Aborigines of the value to them of uranium mining, and radioactive waste tailings on their land, BHP still hopes to convince Canadian indigenous peoples of their bounty to them – promising jobs (mining) etc.

Uranium looking like a poor investment

Cameco profit falls as it cuts uranium sales forecast -. Steel Guru , 18 Aug 2010, Cameco Corporation reported a weaker Q2 operating profit as results were hurt by lower uranium sales volumes and a lower realized uranium selling price.The top Canadian uranium producer also lowered its 2010 uranium sales forecast to 30 million pounds from a range of 31 million pounds to 33 million pounds as some customers deferred deliveries into 2011.Cameco said that it expects 2010 uranium revenues to fall 10% to 15% below 2009 levels compared with its prior forecast of 5% to 10% decline…..
