Further tests to investigate possible radioactive polonium murder of Yassa Arafat
Swiss experts asked to test Arafat’s remains for radiation poisoning, Scotsman.com 10 July 2012 Swiss radiation physicists who recently investigated the death in 2004 of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat are being invited to a West Bank mausoleum to take samples from his actual remains for further tests.
The invitation to specialists from the Switzerland Institute of Radiation Physics came as the Palestinian Authority received permission for the autopsy from family members. Mr Arafat’s nephew, former UN ambassador Nasser al-Qidwa, who was initially cool to the idea, made it clear yesterday he would not object.
In an investigation commissioned by the Qatar-based al-Jazeera television and broadcast last week, researchers from the Swiss institute found elevated levels of the radioactive substance polonium on belongings used by Mr Arafat during his final days in a French military hospital that they had been given by his widow, Suha.
The researchers said the high levels may have been the result of poisoning, but stressed they would need to exhume the remains to confirm this. Senior Palestinian officials said Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas was determined that the tests take place….
.. because polonium decays rapidly, experts are divided over whether testing the remains
can bring such closure and will produce a clue eight years after the event. Polonium was used to kill Russian former spy Alexander Litvinenko in London six years ago.
Talal Awkal, a columnist for the al-Ayyam newspaper, predicted that Israel would try to prevent the Swiss team from carrying out its mission. But Yigal Palmor, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman, said: “Israel is not going to influence in any way any measure the
authority wants to take to investigate Mr Arafat’s death.”

Iran ready to negotiate on uranium enrichment

Iran May Consider Halt To 20% Uranium Enrichment, Press TV Says By Ladane Nasseri – Jul 7, 2012 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-08/iran-may-consider-halt-to-20-uranium-enrichment-press-tv-says.html An Iranian parliament lawmaker said his country is willing to consider the temporary suspension of 20-percent uranium enrichment as part of a negotiated accord, state-run Press TV news channel reported.
In return the so-called P5+1 — U.S., U.K., France, China, Russia and Germany — must agree to meet the country’s needs for 20-percent enriched uranium, said Mohammad-Hassan Asferi, a member of the Parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, according to Press TV.
Iran would be willing to suspend its 20-percent enrichment activity for a specific period if western powers meet its enrichment needs during this time, Asferi said, adding that permanent suspension is “by no means acceptable.”
Iran would also expect sanctions to be lifted and the nuclear dossier to be pulled out of the UN Security Council and referred back to the International Atomic Energy Agency, he said, according to Press TV.

Majority of Iranians willing to stop uranium enrichment
Survey: 62% of Iranians willing to stop uranium enrichment YNet News 4 July 12, Iranian TV publishes two online surveys showing 60% of Iranians are willing to halt enrichment efforts; 89% opposed plan to close Strait of Hormuz. Poll quickly removed from station’s website Dudi Cohen
Two surveys about Iran’s nuclear program published a day ago on the Internet site of Islamic Republic‘s state-run television broadcaster, Khabar, were quickly taken offline after the responses failed to back up the government’s line.
The first survey asked Iranians how the nation should deal with the “unilateral sanctions imposed by the West?” Sixty-two percent responded that Iran should stop enriching uranium in return for the gradual removal of the sanctions. Another 21% responded that they would support “a response by Iran, in which the Strait of Hormuz was closed” and the rest responded “opposing sanctions to preserve Iran’s rights on the nuclear issue.”
This was the first time the Iranian broadcasting authority, considered a mouthpiece for the regime, posted its own poll that included a “stop uranium enrichment” response…… http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4251134,00.html
Some respect entering in USA-Iran practical talks

![]()
Silver lining in Iran nuclear talks, Asia Times Online By Kaveh L Afrasiabi 27 June 12 Despite the deadlock at last week’s talks in Moscow between Iran and world powers on the former’s nuclear ambitions, it seems not all hope is lost.
The glimmer of progress lies in the support building for a technical agreement on a nuclear fuel swap, which is the subject of a technical follow-on meeting for July 3 in Istanbul, as well as in improved confidence-building measures between the US and Iran. Continue reading
Suspend nuclear talks until sanctions against Iran are lifted

Iran to suspend nuclear talks until sanctions are lifted: website http://www.iranwpd.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=3735:iran-to-suspend-nuclear-talks-until-sanctions-are-lifted-website&Itemid=65 June 21 – An Iranian website close to moderate circles of the ruling establishment in Iran suggests suspending negotiations with the major world powers over country’s nuclear program until the sanctions are
lifted.
The website baztab.net which for its critical stance against the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is filtered, suggests that the West would continue talks with Iran to the very end and would use it to “persuade the public opinion of its peaceful intentions, saying it has been trying to settle its dispute with Iran through diplomatic ways however it remained no other alternative but attacking Iran.”
Baztab believes there would be no benefit to Iran to negotiate but also suffer from sanctions, “especially when it is also downgraded to experts’ meeting.”
“We have to change the game,” proposes the website adding: “Iran has to tell 5+1 and Catherine Ashton that in case of implementation of the sanctions against the central bank and seizing of oil purchase by EU, talks would be suspended.”
On June 28, the US will instate sanctions on companies working with Iran’s central bank; days later, on July 1, the European Union will launch an embargo on Iranian oil, which could knock out a third of the country’s revenue.
