Workers exposed to radiation after liquid leak at Shizuoka nuke pant The Mainichi Daily News 2 Dec 09 Nearly 30 workers were exposed to radiation after liquid waste leaked at a nuclear plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, Chubu Electric Power Co. has announced.The accident occurred at the No. 3 reactor at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station in Omaezaki, Shizuoka, when 53 liters of highly-concentrated nuclear waste solution leaked inside the plant’s auxiliary building on Tuesday afternoon………………..A massive amount of radioactivity at 1.2 billion becquerels — 324 times higher than the government-set standard of 3.7 million becquerels — was detected in the waste solution, the company said.

Cooling problem shuts French nuclear reactor
French Cruas nuclear plant shut down on cooling problemwww.chinaview.cn 2009-12-03 PARIS, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — One nuclear reactor in south France was forced to shut down around Tuesday midnight due to problems with the cooling system. An emergency plan has been taken on Wednesday.
The troubled Cruas nuclear power station in Ardeche, southern France situates by the Rhone river, which provides cooling water for the four reactors on the site. Before dawn an intake was shuttered automatically, stopping cooling capability of the nuclear power station, so that the parent company EDF ordered to close down the facility and reported the incident.

French reactor shut down following loss of cooling Nuclear Reaction 3 Dec 09 ‘PARIS – One of four reactors at the Cruas nuclear power station in southern France was shut down late on Tuesday following a lapse in the cooling system, France’s nuclear safety agency said. French energy company EDF reported the incident at 2250 GMT and followed its emergency procedures to shut down the reactor, it added.
The agency said it was still evaluating the seriousness of the incident. The cooling system for the reactors use water from the Rhone River and the incident was due to a high level of plant debris in the river blocking intake, it added.’

Thursday, November 19, 2009 PAYETTE — Dr. Peter Rickards, Twin Falls, intends to drive to Payette County today to attend the Payette County Planning & Zoning Commission meeting where the board will consider a comprehensive plan amendment regarding a proposed nuclear power plant……“I’m the kind of guy who likes to double checks things,” Rickards said.
He said, beyond the large nuclear power plant accidents in the past, there have been smaller problems at other plants that could have turned into disasters, specifically naming a power plant, Davis-Besse, in Ohio where he said a small leak was detected and then deliberately ignored. The Davis-Besse plant has faced a number of challenges since construction began on the facility in 1970.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission reported the Davis-Besse plant encountered several of the most dangerous types of nuclear miscues since the late 1970s.
Rickards said voters in Idaho and Payette County should be concerned about any nuclear power plant proposal. ………….“Basically nuclear power is the only energy source that can cause the permanent evacuation of a widespread region such as southern Idaho,” he said.
