France insists on nuclear for green hydrogen

Alarabiya News, 18 Oct 23

France on Wednesday repeated calls to class hydrogen produced with atomic power as “green”, lining up a new clash with Germany over nuclear’s role in Europe’s energy plans.

“The development of the hydrogen market will be delayed if there is no equal treatment between renewable and low-carbon hydrogen,” the French ambassador to Germany Francois Delattre said in Berlin.

……………………..Discussions are ongoing between EU member states on a package of regulations that will determine whether volumes of the gas produced with nuclear power can be considered “green”.

……….. Paris has repeatedly clashed with Berlin over nuclear energy playing a bigger role in Europe’s energy plans.  https://english.alarabiya.net/business/energy/2023/10/18/-France-insists-on-nuclear-for-green-hydrogen-

  1. Using nuclear power to generate electricity to separate hydrogen from water or Natural Gas is like firing a cannon at a door bell to ring it. It is terriblely energy inefficient, too dangerous, wasteful and totally unnecessary for generating hydrogen from water. Solar, wind, tidal, wave, geothermal & hydroelectric power are all more cost effective, efficient, and safer ways to generate hydrogen for hydrogen fuel cell electricity or for burning hydrogen in a combustion engine, to boil water, to power an electric generator. Hydrogen fuel cells could be use for back up and peak or baseline power supplies, for trucks, cars, passenger & ocean going freighters & boats, freight trains, even for electric motor propeller planes to fly. At night, when it is raining or cloudy. fuel cells can serve as a back up power supply for the Electric Grid.
