Tokyo has radioactive hot spots, evidence! – 1.15μSv/h in a Vegetable Field near Tokyo

“…I do not like the idea of taking a walk in a place where I can measure more than 1μSv/h. This is a dose rate where I literally should be running away from.
So on May 11th I was irradiated. These days, every time I go out to the countryside I get irradiated. I am starting to have the feeling that I cannot live near Tokyo any more….”

On May 11th in the afternoon, I went for a walk for some exercise. This time I just took my Air Counter with me and left my heavy survey meter at home.

At around 2.30 pm, my reading went up to 1.15μSv/h in the middle of a vegetable field. It is more or less the same as the 1.1μSv/h measured at the Okumamachi Fureai Park (only 4 km away from The Fukushima Daiichi plant) on the same day! Now this was a shock.

The following is the record on the dosimeter. I had started to measure the air dose rate from about 1 pm and at 2 pm had measured around 0.3μSv/h.

(時刻 time)
1.15μSv/h is the highest reading that I had had during the 1 1/2 years of use of this dosimeter.
As you can see it was just for a short while that I measured such a high dose rate. As I moved about I still had high readings. I presume that there was an air current that carried radioactive substances near the ground. 1.15μSv/h is the equivalent of 300.000 Bq/m2 of cesium in the soil.
According to the following map the spot was at altitude 25.5m, in an area with mostly vegetable patches where urbanization is restricted.

松戸駅 Matsudo station
測定地点 location of measurement
船橋駅 Funabashi station
江戸川河口 mouth of Edogawa river

They were burning something in a home-use incineration unit nearby but the wind wasn’t coming from there. The wind was coming from the south and wasn’t strong.

The following spot was quite far away from the previous one. The altitude is about 14m lower. The readings are not much different.
Where do the radioactive substances come from? It could be radon but would it rise so much on a plateau? There are incineration plants and waste recycling centres of Funabashi city in Sanbanse near the mouth of the Edogawa River. They are 8 km south of where I measured. If the chimneys of these plants are high then I guess the emission could travel quite far. It wouldn’t be unnatural to think that the emissions would have an impact on the surrounding environment in a radius of 8-10 km. I shudder to think that there are plants that release radioactive gas of 1μSv/h everywhere though.
I do not like the idea of taking a walk in a place where I can measure more than 1μSv/h. This is a dose rate where I literally should be running away from.
So on May 11th I was irradiated. These days, every time I go out to the countryside I get irradiated. I am starting to have the feeling that I cannot live near Tokyo any more.

  1. Let me ask – did you by any chance eat a banana before taking this measurement? That would do it if you did.

    • it’s about time that the nuclear lobby gave up on this disingenuous campaign about bananas. Sure the human body always has a tiny amount of radioactive isotopes. And sure, bananas do contain radioactive potassium 40. However, this potassium 40 level in the body remains unchanged, no matter how many bananas one eats, as the body’s homeostatic mechanism kicks in..
By contrast, radioactive isotopes from nuclear fission are not eliminated in this way. They accumulate in the body, increasing risks of mutations in cells, and resultant cancer or other illness.

      • Unfortunately, this amount of radiation is absolutely safe. It is a bit above normal background levels. I wrote a foreign born nuclear scientist about your post and got this answer: Please be honest. Don’t delete this post. Thanks.

1.15 uSv/hr is same as 10 mSv/yr which only 4 times average natural background. This is absolutely safe and even beneficial. This level is encountered all over the world where the population is even healthier than average.
This report is certainly from an anti-nuke, indoctrinated in the LNT lie that all radiation is harmful.

      • well Raul
interesting that you use typical JTRIG methods such as claiming christina isnt honest because she deleted your post .. when last week approx. you deleted my post on your blog..
she allowed your comment and answered it, which was more than you did for my comment..
that makes you not honest ..

Also, who is this” foreign born ” scientist that you are referring too? leave a link like i did to confirm your sources ..

I suggest you try to do your own research and you can start by googling “internal emitters” (small particles inhaled or ingested) .. but maybe you like to keep your sources only from a limited amount of sources ..

PS you rate china as a nuclear country? are you chinese? otherwise china may be showing you up close what they have done with their nuclear technology .. are you not worried about nuclear explosions in you back yard?

The attack on christina claiming that she is not honest if she deleted your message will not be forgotten.. do not expect any other of your comments to get through because i will not let them ..

You are dishonest and will not allow free discourse on your blog, so dont expect this blog to respect you ..

Given that you claim to be intelligent and worldwise, it is confusing that you use obvious techniques that are shown in edwards snowdens JTRIG manual that was recently released onto the net.. This makes you stupid or a paid employee of the nuclear cabal ..

Its a shame that you couldnt reveal your source that ignores the 6,000 children a year in belarus and ukraine that have heart defects or the semipalantisk locals that have genetic passports and are refused to get pregnant.. I suspect your hormesis loving friend avoids those nasty truths..

finally , go back to your blog and wait there quietly for someone to click on that pile of biased garbage (you dont get many hits do you? because you edit any discussion out i suspect). At least we here at nuclear-news,net also give the other side of the discussion and until recently our resident schill Roger was happy to take apart and be involved in discussion even if we didnt agree.. He even busted a few articles ..
You are not Roger.. he sourced from Yahoo nuclear groups and they had a more professional and open minded view than your unknown professional of “foreign ” extraction ..
peace and i hope you work out how to get the blinkers off and learn some politeness .. i will not hold my breath though
