Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s false safety assumptions

NRC-jpgNuclear Regulatory Commission Is Using Obviously Faulty Models to Pretend Crumbling Nuclear Reactors Are Safe By Washington’s Blog Global Research, August 12, 2013 Ignoring Basic Engineering Science Puts Us All At Risk

Faulty assumptions by America’s financial regulators led to the 2008 crash … and many other disastrous results.

Similarly, America’s main nuclear regulator – the Nuclear Regulatory Commission –   made numerous assumptions before Fukushima that turned out to be totally false.  For example, the NRC wrongly assumed: Continue reading

America’s official lies about the reasons for atomic bombing of Japanese cities

liar-nuclear1Flag-USAhighly-recommended

Regardless of the number of American lives Truman claims to have saved, the vast majority of Americans accept the official story as gospel. The indoctrinating media and sixty-eight years of propagandistic history texts from grammar school through high school did its job well. But, except for the fact of the bombs having been dropped, the official story is a lie. Not merely mistaken, but a lie.

In terms of moral justification, the official story no doubt provides a great deal of comfort to a great many Americans. Unfortunately, all indications are that this moral centerpiece of the official story just isn’t true. The truth, as it turns out, is so barbaric that it’s almost inconceivable..

America’s Nuclear Madness: Terrorism With A Vengeance (Part I) By   OpEdNews   8/11/2013  “………..The Official Story

Sixty-eight years ago, August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the first atomic bomb to ever be used in warfare on the civilian population of Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later a second atomic bomb was dropped on the civilian population of Nagasaki, Japan. All toll, nearly a quarter of a million civilian men, woman, children, and babies lost their lives in those blasts. Of those who survived the blasts, many were maimed for life and many more would later die slow, painful deaths due to radiation poisoning and various forms of cancer.

In Hiroshima, a city with a population of 290,000, the initial death count by the end of August 1945 was estimated at 100,000. By the end of 1950 the estimated death toll had risen, according to some estimates, to 200,000. In Nagasaki, a city with a population of 240,000, including 400 prisoners of war, it’s estimated that some 70,000 were killed by the initial blast, with 140,000 dead within the next five years.

The official story at the time was that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military targets whose destruction was necessary to bring the war to an end. This was a lie. The American public was also told that leaflets were dropped warning the inhabitants of these cities of the impending destruction and that they should leave. This, too, was a lie. The official story tells of President Truman’s decision to go nuclear on Japan as a necessary last resort designed to hasten a Japanese surrender, thereby saving American soldiers the horrors of a ground invasion of the Japanese mainland. As we will see, this, too, was a lie.

The official story claims that dropping the bombs saved the lives of many thousands of American soldiers which otherwise most certainly would have been lost. In October 1945, two months after the bombs were dropped, Truman wrote in his diary: Continue reading

UK Discreetly Trimming to 180 or Fewer Nuclear Warheads

Times of News

13 August 2013

The United Kingdom has been decommissioning and breaking down Trident nuclear warheads at a rate of three per year, with a goal of reducing domestic stocks to “no more than 180″ by the mid-2020s, the London Guardian reported.

Great Britain currently has a nuclear weapons stockpile of approximately 225 warheads, according to the newspaper. The U.K. government in June 2011 announced that the cache of warheads would be reduced by 45 to meet the intent stated in Britain’s 2010 Defense Review.

The quiet and gradual disassembly program has resulted in the modification of a number of warheads “to render them unusable while others identified as no longer being required for service are currently stored and have not yet been disabled or modified,” Sue Ford, a Defense Ministry equipment and support policy official, told the Guardian.

The report comes almost a week after the United Kingdom’s Liberal Democrats announced they would hold a party vote next month on a proposal to disarm some of the nation’s nuclear-missile equipped submarines.

Clarification: This article was altered after initial publication to eliminate faulty characterizations of the U.K. Defense Review and the military items being modified.

Nevada’s secret nuclear radiation guinea pigs

secret-agent-Smtext ionising“Nuclear Guinea Pigs”: Deadly Experiments and Contaminated Reality By Greg Guma Global Research, August 11, 2013 Half a century ago, on the spurious grounds that extreme sacrifices were required in the battle to prevent a communist takeover of the world, the US government decided to use the citizens of Nevada as nuclear guinea pigs.
Although atomic testing was pursued there for several years in the 1950s, notification would have alarmed area residents. As a result, they weren’t even advised to go indoors. Yet, according to declassified documents, some scientists studying the genetic effects of radiation at the time were already concerned about the health risks of fallout.

For most of those committed to the US nuclear program, the need to keep this type of research secret was a no-brainer. After all, if the public realized that the technology used to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki had led to experiments at home, early nuclear research – not to mention weapons deployment – might have met stronger opposition. The government badly wanted its nukes, and the scientists yearned to unlock the secrets of human mutation. Thus, an unholy alliance was struck. Continue reading

Young people of Israel and Iran want peaceful co-operation

diplomacy-not-bombsLink Peace and Nuclear Talks August 12, 2013  NYT, Reginald Zell,  12 Aug 13 Regarding “Iran’s Plan B for the bomb” (Views, Aug. 10) by Amos Yadlin and Avner Golov: Whenever there is talk about peace negotiations, Israel plays up threats like Iran’s production of a nuclear bomb, now upgraded to a plutonium bomb. Both countries consider the other as a mortal enemy out for the other’s destruction. The median age of the population of Iran is 27 years; in Israel it is 30 years. In both countries however, despite an overwhelming young population, politics is conceived by elderly minorities that are only kept in power through imagined threats and fears…….

Unfortunately there is no neutral power to initiate and implement this complex but simple undertaking. The United States has no credibility, as demonstrated by its forays in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, where it squandered trillions of dollars, nor does Europe with its geriatric, bland leadership. Thus any vision of young Israelis imagining Iran as a huge market of 79 million consumers and of young Iranians studying nuclear science in the Negev will remain dreams.   Reginald Zell, Bures-sur-Yvette, France  http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/13/opinion/global/link-peace-and-nuclear-talks.html?_r=0

Call upon St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley to get rid of nuclear wastes

Could Dooley Do More to Rid County of Nuclear Waste?  CBS St Louis, August 12, 2013 BRIDGETON, Mo. (KMOX) – With an underground landfill fire burning near a nuclear dump site, activists want St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley to champion the removal of nuclear waste.

“People want this radioactive waste removed,” said Dawn Chapman, a Maryland Heights mother of three who helps run a Facebook page on the West Lake Landfill.

Chapman says among the north St. Louis County residents she regularly meets with, there is a growing alarm over the status quo of raising children near a nuclear waste site……….

In 2009, the St. Louis County Council passed a resolution calling for the removal of nuclear waste from the West Lake Landfill but Dooley never signed the resolution.

A Dooley spokesman says it’s not unusual for the County Executive to leave a symbolic resolution unsigned.

In late July, KMOX asked Dooley about concerns of residents and activists that he is taking too low a profile on the nuclear waste issue…… http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/08/12/could-dooley-do-more-to-rid-county-of-nuclear-waste/

No military need for atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Nagasaki-bombedhighly-recommendedAmerica’s Nuclear Madness: Terrorism With A Vengeance (Part I) By ”  OpEdNews   8/11/2013   “………….Japan Had Already Been Defeated Prior To Dropping the Bombs   After the war had ended, the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey (a board consisting of more than 1,000 individuals, both military and civilian), was tasked by U.S. Secretary of War Henry Stimson with the examination and analysis of U.S. involvement in WW II. The Survey concluded in 1946 that “Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.”

But it was not only with the advantage of hindsight that this conclusion was reached. General Eisenhower (Supreme Commander of allied forces in Europe) and General MacArthur (Supreme Commander of the U.S. Army in the Pacific) came to the same conclusion before the bombs were ever dropped. I don’t think there’s any question that both General Eisenhower and General MacArthur would have done whatever was necessary to spare their troops the horrors of a ground invasion. But the fact is that neither of them believed that a ground invasion of mainland Japan was necessary. Continue reading

The World Future Council (WFC) annually holds the “Future Policy Award” which celebrates policies that create better living conditions for current and future generations, with the aim to raise global awareness for these exemplary policies and speed up policy action towards just, sustainable, and peaceful societies. This year, the Mongolian law on its Nuclear Weapon Free Status from the year 2000 has been nominated for the award.

The WFC is an international non-governmental organization and it started granting the award in 2009 towards the goal of influencing countries’ policies by raising the awareness of the public about various challenges facing humankind.

In 2009, the award promoted exemplary policies in food security, the finest biodiversity policies in 2010, successful forest preservation policies in 2011, and policies that protect coasts and oceans from pollution in 2012.

This year, the award focuses on celebrating rightful and influential policies on the disarmament of nuclear weapons. A total of 25 policies have been nominated and a team of nine acknowledged judges have highlighted nine policies in its last meeting in which, to the delight of the country, this Mongolian law was included as the WFC reported.

The winning policy will be announced at the UN Headquarters in New York on the eve of the United Nations Disarmament Week from October 24 to 30.

Fukushima Workers Suffer Radiaton Poisoning, TEPCO Worker Confesses update

A great video mix here from missmilkytheclown1

Workers at Fukushima plant suffer radiation poisoning
The kicker is: The officials say the mister was spraying water from a dam about 10 kilometers away from the plant. The same water was being used for toilets and other facilities. TEPCO officials say the workers were exposed to radiation at a level of 19 becquerels per square centimeter. That’s 5 times the limit set by the utility.

TEPCO reveals pumping plan of contaminated water
here’s the kicker: It also warned of the approaching typhoon season. Not to Mention that the water is making the land kind of “Muddy” and Squishy… and the molten Cores beneath the earth are heating up with leaning nuclear spent fuel pools directly above them. Don’t forget, if Fukushima Daiichi has yet another “situation” that goes “boom”, nobody can go into any of the area There, OR, most likely Fukushima Daini (the other nuclear plant no longer mentioned) – that is about 10 KM away (as I recall). You would then have a Domino Effect. “the situation is Not Stable at ALL”.

Great interview with a guy who works at Fukushima Daiichi
http://tinyurl.com/n4g9vky
Ten workers at the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant were exposed to radiation from contaminated mist […] The workers were waiting for a bus when they were sprayed […] It was unknown how the mist became contaminated […] They were ordered to receive full body scans, which can detect exposure to their inner organs. […] The workers’ exposure was detected by a radiation monitor […] Earlier today, Tepco reported that an alarm sounded at a dust monitor near the building, indicating high concentrations of radioactivity. […]

ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), August 12, 2013: I’m meeting Fujimoto-san after one of his 12 hour shifts, and I want to know how TEPCO is faring at trying to stop the leak of 300 tonnes of radioactive groundwater every day. Fujimoto-san just shakes his head. “Steam came out of the Reactor 3 building the other day,” he tells me. “When it came out, TEPCO didn’t even tell us. I found out about it on the TV news after I got home from work,” he says.
