Person of the year: Bradley Manning wins award
Breaking News: Manning wins Person of Year 2012 in landslide DECEMBER 8, 2012 BY: DEBORAH DUPRE http://www.examiner.com/article/breaking-news-manning-wins-person-of-year-2012-landslide?CID=examiner_alerts_article Bradley Manning has won the Person of the Year 2012 conducted by The Guardian with a landslide 70 percent of the votes.
Although the Guardian has not made the official announcement, WikiLeaks and Anonymous were among the first to tweet the news that Bradley Manning has won the Guardian’s Person of the Year Award 2012.
Around 4:37 P.M. Pacific Time, Anonymous @YourAnonNews tweeted, “Pfc. Bradley #Manning is The @Guardian’s 2012 Person of the Year. #FreeBrad
Moments later, WikiLeaks tweeted, “Bradley Manning wins Guardian Person of the Year with a crushing 70% of the vote–despite Guardian bias http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/poll/2012/dec/07/person-of-the-year-2012-vote … #freebrad.”
Russia Today announced on Twitter around 7:30 P.M., “@RT_com: Bradley Manning wins Guardian’s 2012 Person of the Year vote http://t.co/2XTBgy2E.”
The poll closed Saturday afternoon.
The Guardian clearly shows an overwhelming victory for Manning and thus, for human rights. The Guardian, however, has yet to make a public announcement about the winner.
Runner-up for the award is Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl shot by the Taliban for speaking out against militants and promoting education for girls. Malala had 22 percent of the votes. She was featured with a photograph at the top of the Guardian’s page about the contest.
