Radiation levels at Louisiana sinkhole 15 times over limit
Sinkhole radiation 15 times over limit, residents urged to record health signs
BAYOU CORNE SINKHOLE DISASTER, Examiner.com AUGUST 24, 2012 BY: DEBORAH DUPRE A non-government group is urging Bayou Corne sinkhole area residents to use a new record log as a veteran radiation expert says Louisiana environmental officials are “in denial” over hazards posed by elevated radium levels that are actually fifteen times higher than the state limit, a “worst nightmare coming true,” according to an environmental attorney.
Stanley Waligora, a New Mexico-based radiation protection consultant and leading authority on health risks of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) has confirmed that radium levels at Bayou Corne’s sinkhole are not within safe limits, but instead, roughly 15 times higher than the state’s acceptable level, according to one of the nation’s leading environmental attorney’s Stuart Smith.
State officials are saying NORM is is below hazardous levels, but the independent findings indicate other actions need to be taken, including residents using Louisiana Environmental Action Network’s report logs to record signs and symptoms of ill health.
The information about radium is buried in a state news release, poorly written, “and goes out of its way to downplay the results,” Smith said Wednesday…… http://www.examiner.com/article/sinkhole-radiation-15-times-over-limit-residents-urged-to-record-health-signs
Nonaligned nations summit – Iran calls for nuclear arms ban
Iran opens nonaligned summit with calls for nuclear arms ban Washington Post, 26 Aug 12 TEHRAN, Iran — Iran opened a world gathering of self-described nonaligned nations Sunday with a slap at the U.N. Security Council and an appeal to rid the world of nuclear weapons, even as Tehran faces Western suspicions that it is seeking its own atomic bombs.
Iran seeks to use the weeklong gathering — capped by a two-day summit of Non-Aligned Movement leaders — as a showcase of its global ties and efforts to challenge the influence of the West and its allies. Among those expected to attend include U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh, whose nation remains
an important Iranian oil customer as Tehran battles Western sanctions over its nuclear program…. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/iran-opens-nonaligned-summit-with-calls-for-nuclear-arms-ban/2012/08/26/4c363ec2-ef63-11e1-b74c-84ed55e0300b_story.html
The sex assault case against Julian Assange has contradictions
Julian Assange hopeful a photo could help clear him of sexual assault allegations Herald Sun, Abul Taher Daily Mail August 27, 2012 IT seems an unremarkable image: a group of friends smiling broadly. But it is the photograph Julian Assange hopes will clear his name.
The Mail on Sunday has published a photo of a beaming woman, pictured with Assange and three other people, who would later tell police that 48 hours before the picture was taken, the WikiLeaks founder pinned her down in her flat and sexually assaulted her.
If the case ever reaches court – Mr Assange is currently holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London – his lawyers will argue that the photograph undermines the 33-year-old woman’s entire story. And, they claim, there is more.
In the two days after the alleged assault in Sweden, Mr Assange and Woman A, as she is known, attended a conference and two dinner parties where it is claimed they were practically inseparable. During one party, Woman A tweeted that she was “with the world’s coolest, smartest people!”…..

“….Hactivist group Anonymous claims to have taken down the websites of Interpol and a British police force as part of a campaign calling for the freedom of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Several Twitter accounts associated with the loose-knit Anonymous collective have announced that the website of International Criminal Police Organization was taken down. The site was unavailable as of 9:18 pm GMT but resumed functioning soon after.
The hackers also claim to have taken down the website of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), a UK police unit responsible for operations against serious and organized crime….”

UK wants to resume talks with Ecuador over Assange
“….Tensions between the UK and Ecuador over the Assange case have eased as Britain has withdrawn a threat to raid its embassy to arrest the WikiLeaks founder, adding it wanted to resume talks over the issue.
On Saturday the Ecuadorian government revealed that it received “a communication from the British Foreign Office which said that there was no threat to enter the embassy.”
“We consider this unfortunate incident over, after a grave diplomatic error by the British in which they said they would enter our embassy,” Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said in a weekly media address.
After the address Britain stated that it remains committed to a diplomatic solution to the standoff and expressed willingness to restart talks with Ecuador….”
Many students avoided pools over radiation fears FUKUSHIMA
Asia One The Yomiuri Shimbun/Asia News Network 26 Aug 12, – About 1 in 20 primary and middle school students in the city of Fukushima refused to swim in outdoor pools during physical education classes this summer due to radiation fears, according to a municipal board of education survey.
Public primary and middle schools in the city resumed swimming classes at outdoor pools this summer. Nationalist manga author joins anti-nuclear fight
TOKYO —
“…Japan’s anti-nuclear movement has a new supporter: bestselling nationalist manga author Yoshinori Kobayashi, known for his controversial defense of Tokyo’s wartime aggression, has joined the growing ranks of those who want the country to end its reliance on atomic power in the wake of the Fukushima crisis..”
“…Echoing other nuclear critics, Kobayashi’s manga takes aim at Japan’s “nuclear village”, a powerful nexus of politicians, utilities and bureaucrats, backed by the media, who for decades promoted nuclear energy as safe, cheap and clean.
He also dismisses the argument made by Japan’s business lobbies that the resource-poor economy will suffer if the country shuts down the reactors that before Fukushima supplied almost 30 percent of electricity needs.
“Morality and economic growth are possible without nuclear power,” he concludes….”

“….[Fukushima] prefecture had conducted thyroid checks on 38,000 children by the end of March.
No-one was diagnosed with cancer, but lumps were found in 36 percent of the children.
The prefecture explained that lumps can be found in healthy children, so no special measures are needed, but parents voiced strong concerns over the finding.
Thyroid checks will now be conducted on 4,500 children aged 18 years old or younger in 3 areas outside Fukushima Prefecture by the end of March….”

Why aren’t mass studies of children being done?
What was the Fukushima Symposium all about in September 2011? They discussed thyroid testing and analysis but don’t seem to be doing much in the way of testing? Many international health industry “professionals” were present.
heres some amateur analysis of that symposium here.
International Expert Symposium Ignores Fukushima Residents: Citizens Group
September 10, 2011
“The International Expert Symposium that will be held from 11 September includes this Professor Yamashita on its organizing committee and will bring together experts who underestimate low-dose exposure risks. The Symposium must not be allowed to provide a justification for the Japanese Government’s exposure policy and confer international authority on the “Prefectural People’s Health Management Survey.” This is a threat against not only the people of Fukushima Prefecture but the whole of humankind.
We have submitted an open letter to the Symposium and will also oppose the Symposium with a protest demonstration. Please communicate the injustice of this Symposium to the whole world.
What we, the residents of Fukushima, need most of all is to evacuate to safe areas. The evacuation of children should be carried out with the utmost urgency. The tragedy of Chernobyl must not be repeated in Fukushima.

shes talking about the missed chance of Chernobyl and the opportunities of studying the cancer in the fukushima prefecture and developing oncology treatments.. her main issue is coallation of data.. her tissue bank only started in 1998.. at 1.46 approx says saving data is what is important not saving tissue samples and then goes on to say that the 4000 reviewed tissue samples do not include any from Belarus, and that it is a small number anyway! No questions taken from the audience!!

at 21.17 Richard Wakeford
says anything below 100 mgray no worry goes on to discuss thresholds and small risk of low dose damage. Says that figures are clear at 1+ gray but lower down admits things are “not so clear” 50 to 100 milligray data shows some damage.. mainly talks of xray not particulate radiation concerning pregnant women..
@38.38 when asked about internal and external radiation differences he said he sat on a difficult committee for three years which he sniped about.. audience laughs!!. he said that the claims made by the radiological committee “don’t hold water” . lots of help from the audience to divert the question too!

There is a full reply from Geraldine Thomas to inquiries to the wording “saving data is what is important not saving tissue samples” and the obvious conflict that might have on future victim litigation..
The reply stated that the focus should be more on the idea that the data would be sufficient to draw conclusions than on the idea of destroying anything.. more or less..
But the videos show active participation from the worlds health professionals and physicists in deciding and planning a future health study for the people of Fukushima without their input and against their wishes..
A well into the future health study, seemingly.
Unfair market advantages for oil and coal industries, against wind and solar
Why Conservative Attacks On Wind And Solar Energy? — Seeing the Forest, by Dave Johnson. 26 Aug 12, There has been a recent flurry of propaganda attacks on wind and solar energy by oil-and-coal-backed conservatives. A vitally important tax credit to help build a renewable energy industry in this country expires at the end of this year without Congressional action, and the old oil and coal industries — along with certain other countries —
want to make sure it does expire.
Background
The fossil-fuel industry is fully developed after many decades of government help. Going up against a fully-developed industry like oil and coal is enormously expensive, and the industry is trying to block from triggering private investment to help get us out from under its grip. It has nothing to do with government interfering in markets, or “picking winners and losers,” this is about us helping offset the enormous competitive advantage oil and coal have due to
government investment and assistance in oil and coal in prior decades.
We do this because We, the People see the benefits and prosperity that will come to us from developing these alternative energy industries. Oil and coal are, to put it mildly, entrenched in our economy, and, to put it mildly, make out very, very well because of that. Continue reading
UK determined to arrest Assange, come what may
Police note lets slip Julian Assange arrest plan http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/world/police-note-lets-slip-julian-assange-arrest-plan/story-fnd134gw-1226457832696 By CHARLES MIRANDA in London August 25, 2012 THE order is simple and the note brief but it points to a likelihood of a complex and lengthy impasse between Ecuador and Britain over the future of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
“Assange to be arrested under all circumstances,” the confidential Scotland Yard note seen yesterday being carried by an officer outside the Ecuador embassy reads.
And therein lies the problem. He has political asylum in Ecuador but cannot get there with Britain refusing to let him step onto public soil without immediate arrest, detention and extradition to Sweden to face sexual assault allegations.
Scotland Yard acknowledged the handwritten note was from a briefing and stressed that the force’s objective is to arrest Assange for breach of bail.
“Under no circumstances would any arrest be made which was in breach of diplomatic immunity,” Scotland Yard said.

“….Three years ago, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s research mission visited the contaminated areas. Dr. Shigematsu [Japanese], chairman of the mission, announced “there are no health damages among the residents.” […]
Mr. Hirokawa, after looking at your video, I wonder what it was that IAEA announced there were no health damages among the residents. […]
The local people believed a fair research would be done, because IAEA is an agency of the United Nations and a medical scientist from Hiroshima would lead the research. So, they were astounded that the mission had announced the areas were safe.
But, didn’t the mission actually see the situation there?
Well, according to the local doctors, the mission members didn’t enter the heavily-contaminated areas.
Besides, they brought their food, sourced from far away, and didn’t eat anything local.
Still, they declared it’s safe. No wonder the local people are infuriated.
If the mission found local food too dangerous to eat, they should have said it’s dangerous.
The very credibility of the International Atomic Energy Agency is seriously challenged, isn’t it?
Yes. I hear that when the nuclear industry of the former USSR started to do business with the nuclear industry of the US, they probably agreed that downplaying the damages by the accident would be beneficial for both sides…..”

The Vigil for April 2012
“Since April 26, 2007, the Hippocratic Vigil has been held outside the WHO headquarters in Geneva, which now makes a total of 262 weeks without interruption. The vigil consists of a silent presence that aims to remind the World Health Organization of its obligations as set out in its constitution. We have added the name of Hippocrates to our description because of the ethical rules he instituted for health practitioners. As far as the protection of the health of people affected by the consequences of the nuclear industry is concerned, the World Health Organization ignores these rules.
The Vigil takes place outside the WHO headquarters in Geneva every working day from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm….”

Scientific dishonesty and nuclear power – Article by Chris Busby
http://candobetter.net/node/2744
Posted January 20th, 2012
“….Following up his 2007 book “Wolves of Water” Chris Busby calls for the development in Society of legal mechanisms to investigate issues of scientific dishonesty like those in Denmark. Such issues, he argues, can be seen in the same category as perjury in criminal court cases for which serious sanctions exist. The essay has been published in Iraq-Silent Death edited by Chris Scherrer (University Sains Malaysia 2011) and is also to be found, (together with several examples of possible scientific dishonesty) presented on the website of the Low Level Radiation Campaign http://www.llrc.org The matter is one of democracy and goes to the core of expert evidence on Policy to governments. It is argued that scientists (like those who talk down the Fukushima catastrophe) or those like Prof Wade Allison who advise people to move into radioactive areas because doses of up to 100mSv a month are harmless, should be investigated in a court or law and if found guilty of knowingly giving bad advice (rather than being stupid or careless) suffer penalties….”

The Royal Society and Depleted Uranium
Prof. Brian Spratt FRS and Prof William Bonfield FRS
But why did the Royal Society set up such a committee?
The WHO, IAEA, EURATOM, the UN, the military, the NRPB, all said DU was safe.
Did someone at the RS wake up one morning and think: what a good idea?
Or were they asked to by the government?
To use the good name of the RS to reassure the veterans.?
To reassure the public that the UK was not responsible for all the dying children in Iraq?
