Iran strenuously denying nuclear weapons plans

‘Nuclear powers on brink of rui, Press TV 21 Nov 11, A senior Iranian commander says Iran has no desire to repeat the experience of nuclear powers, which are now on the verge of disintegration.

“Nuclear weapons have no place on Iran’s defensive doctrine and we have never been or will be in pursuit of nuclear weapons,” Deputy Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami told IRNA on Sunday.  The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program and have used this pretext to push for the imposition of sanctions on the country as well as to call for an attack on the country.

Tehran, however, categorically rejects such allegations, saying that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it has the right to acquire and develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.  Salami went on to add that the much repeated Western accusations against Iran’s civilian nuclear program are “baseless and lack logic.”  “All of these allegations aim to mount pressure on Iran and the Islamic Revolution and are nothing new,” Salami concluded.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities, but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.

    That is probably true. I doubt that Iran has any nuclear weapons PRODUCTION capability at all.

    Iran can still explore the many complex technicalities of making a nuclear bomb even without fissile material.

    What other countries are worried about is Iran’s intent. It looks like they want to master the technology and actually make a bomb, if only as a matter of national pride. But then what? Such knowhow can be sold. Then things just get messier . . . They still hate Israel and Iraq. . . . That is not a good mix either!
