Nuclear protesters celebrate 35 years of activism with Seabrook march, SeacoastOnline.com, By Joey Cresta, August 22, 2011 SEABROOK — The past, present and future in the fight against the use of nuclear power converged Sunday at the site where battle lines were drawn on the Seacoast 35 years ago.
A mix of about 20 activists and concerned residents joined together for a peaceful march and picnic at the gates of Seabrook Station along Route 1. Sunday’s event marked the 35th anniversary of the arrest of 180 people during a nonviolent occupation of the site on Aug. 22, 1976, when the plant’s construction was under way…….The demonstration was organized by See Life Affinity, a nonviolent activist group made up of the spiritual — and in some cases, literal — progeny of those who started the push against nuclear power decades ago…….
the protests in those early days were peaceful precursors to a massive occupation featuring more than 2,000 people in April 1977……

Another cause for concern, according to activists, is the deteriorating concrete in below-ground structures at Seabrook Station. The cracking has led to groundwater infiltration, corroded steel supports and other conditions that nuclear power opponents say threaten Seacoast residents.
“Nuclear power does pose a real threat,” said See Life Affinity member Marc Langlois, 23, of Deerfield. “I think it’s something that everyone is concerned about.”
