Anger at Nuclear Regulatory Commission at Indian Point meeting
The problem I have with Entergy is that they have never been honest about any problems with the plant
Federal Officials Heckled at Meeting on Indian Point Nuclear Plant, WYNC News Blog June 03, 2011 Audience members at a raucous public meeting on safety at Indian Point nuclear plant Thursday night heckled officials from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission — calling the federal officials “Liars!” and “lap dogs!”….The meeting was the first opportunity for public comment on the agency’s regulation of the nuclear facility since the crisis at the reactor in Japan began to unfold in March.
Indian Point 2’s license runs out in 2013, and Unit 3 lapses in 2015. Indian Point 1 was taken out of service decades ago.
Environmental groups, including the Hudson Riverkeeper, say the plant has a poor track record and that its proximity to New York City poses too great a risk.
I live within 10 miles of Indian Point. The problem I have with Entergy is that they have never been honest about any problems with the plant. Whenever some problem occurs at the plant, they put out a press release stating that there is no danger to the population, no damage to the environment, and so on. If Entergy were honest about small events, I would *might* trust them to be a bit more trusworthy in the event of a catastrophe.
I’d also like to see every member of Entergy’s management move within the 10 mile evacuation zone. We can all sit in the giant traffic jam together!
