DAVOS, January 26 (Itar-Tass) — Russia and the United States should continue nuclear arms reduction and should not stop at New START, President Dmitry Medvedev said.

“I am glad that we have brought the START process to a logical end, almost brought it there, that is,” Medvedev said at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, January 26.

The president made it clear that he would soon sign a law on the ratification on New START. “When I come back from Davos, the text of the ratified treaty will be put on my table,” he said, adding that U.S. President Barack Obama and he had agreed during a recent telephone conversation “how to exchange” the instruments of ratification.

“However we must not stop at that,” he said. “I am confident that when we signed the treaty, many people on our planet began to breath easier. We should continue this process.”

Another topic concerning strategic stability is missile defence, the president sad.

Moscow has put forth its own proposals concerning cooperation on European missile defence. “Russia considers itself a part of Europe, and we want to feel secure to,” he said, adding that Moscow was ready to work together with the United States and other NATO countries on this issue…..
