China beating USA in wind energy
News bites: China’s wind energy sails ahead of U.S., scientists link extreme weather to climate change, and more THE HILL, By Ben Geman – 01/25/11
China is now capable of generating more electricity from wind than the United States.“China has become the leader in wind energy capacity, seizing the lead from the US, where last year installations dropped to half of what they were in 2009,” the Financial Times (registration req’d) reports.
“US installations totaled 5,115 megawatts of wind power in 2010, barely half of 2009’s record pace because of what the industry sees as the lack of predictable long-term federal policies on renewable energy grants,” the story adds.
