Dr Caldicott’s warnings on nuclear waste deserve attention
Despite her resume, her criticisms are being written off as fear-mongering and it doesn’t look like anyone plans to seek answers to the many questions that have been created by her comments.
Dr. Caldicott’s criticisms deserve more thought northumberlandnews.com, Nov 18, 2010 Bill Tremblay
There’s nothing wrong with listening. It’s a great way to form a balanced opinion. Yet, the warnings from anti-nuclear activist Dr. Helen Caldicott presented through the media over the last week are being locally ignored. Dr. Caldicott is far from being a nut job screaming her opinions at anyone who will listen. She is the author of eight books, holds 21 honorary doctorates and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. She has addressed the U.S. senate, the UN Staff Committee for Nuclear Disarmament and testified before the Australian Federal Senate Special Committee. She was also an instructor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and held personal meetings with Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
It’s hard to argue her resume isn’t impressive………..
Despite her resume, her criticisms are being written off as fear-mongering and it doesn’t look like anyone plans to seek answers to the many questions that have been created by her comments.
It’s naive to think we know all the hazards or benefits of nuclear power just because the industry is in our backyard.
If we fully understood the dangers presented by the nuclear industry, the government wouldn’t be spending $260 million to move 2.1 million metric tonnes of soil contaminated with radioactive waste…….
