“We want our day in court because what is going on there is a human rights violation because they are recklessly exposing all of us to a very serious danger, which is these radionuclides and the possibility of an explosion there,” Nestel said. “We want our day in court because we want to shut it down.”…..
Yankee protesters see charges dropped Bennington Banner: September 14, 2010 BRATTLEBORO — The Windham County State’s Attorneys Office has dropped the unlawful trespassing charges against eight women arrested Aug. 10 at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.
Last month, the protesters involved with the Shut It Down Affinity Group walked through the plant’s gated entrance (a restricted zone) while holding a banner reading “No More Leaks & Lies! Shut it Down Now.”……
In a Monday interview with the Reformer, Nestel, who has been arrested nine times for protesting at the plant, said the decision has disappointed the anti-nuclear protesters.
“We want our day in court because what is going on there is a human rights violation because they are recklessly exposing all of us to a very serious danger, which is these radionuclides and the possibility of an explosion there,” Nestel said. “We want our day in court because we want to shut it down.”…..
Organizers have held similar demonstrations on Vermont Yankee property calling for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to conduct a thorough investigation at the 38-year-old facility and has criticized plant management for failing to correctly read the underground piping system blueprints. Entergy Corp., the owner of operator of Vermont Yankee, is seeking a 20-year license extension to continue operations past March 2012.
