Utah leaders protest pro-nuke waste ruling | The Salt Lake Tribune By JUDY FAHYS  . Jul 28, 2010 Critics renewed their rallying cry Tuesday against plans to store used nuclear reactor rods at a Utah Indian reservation after a judge’s ruling revived the proposal long thought to be dead.

“The plain simple fact,” said U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, “is that we will never allow this facility to be built.”

The remarks were part of an all-delegation, bipartisan news release panning the ruling Monday by District Court Judge David Ebel, a ruling that threw out a pair of U.S. Interior Department decisions that were credited four years ago with killing the nuclear storage site…….

If left to stand, the ruling could be a welcomed solution for the nation’s commercial nuclear industry. Power producers have been forced to store high-level waste at reactor sites nationwide because the federal government has reneged on its promise to provide a permanent disposal site……
