USA must end the production of nuclear wastes

If the Obama administration and congressional democrats are serious about shutting down the Yucca Mountain project, then they need to double down on that instinct by ending the production of nuclear waste altogether. But funding a new generation of nuclear reactors with taxpayer dollars while harpooning all plans to store the associated waste is short-sighted and dangerous.

And so it goes: The order set off a groundswell of opposition from both pro-nuclear groups and leaders across the political spectrum in nuclear-producing states. Places such as Washington and South Carolina were counting on the Yucca site to dump their waste………….

The concept of dumping our dangerous waste inside a mountain is frightening from an environmental point of view, and a disaster for NIMBYists. If the Obama administration and congressional democrats are serious about shutting down the Yucca Mountain project, then they need to double down on that instinct by ending the production of nuclear waste altogether. But funding a new generation of nuclear reactors with taxpayer dollars while harpooning all plans to store the associated waste is short-sighted and dangerous.
