USA’s Nuclear Regulatory Commission ‘in bed with nuclear industry’
Over the years, it has become apparent that the NRC is clearlyIN-BED with the nuclear industry in the push to certify the old nuclear plants for an additional 20-years of operation. The NRC is clearly engaged in a great nuclear experiment with public health and safety hanging in the balance
NRC Wants to Dig Another $10-Billion Dollar Hole in the Ground for Nuclear Waste | Before It’s News , 17 April 2010, “………..The NRC along with the nuclear industry are desperately seeking a quick solution to this dilemma because the government continues to authorize licenses for the construction of more nuclear power plants in the USA.
Even more discerning is the fact that the NRC has adopted an agency policy and practice to extend existing nuclear power plant operating licenses by another 20-years. Notably, these existing nuclear power plants were only designed to operate safely for a 40-year life span. Professional nuclear engineers and scientists considered the high-level nuclear radiation that occurs during the fission process inside the stainless steel nuclear vessel. That high-level nuclear radiation continuously bombards the stainless steel reactor vessel day-in and day-out 365-days a year around the clock. These professional nuclear engineers and scientists mathematically determined that these nuclear reactors should be shut-down after 40-years of operation and decommissioned. However, the NRC supported by the entire nuclear industry decided otherwise – and the NRC continues to extend the life of these old nuclear plants for an additional 20-years of operation. The U.S. Congress created the NRC in 1974 to oversee the nuclear industry with a mandate to protect public health and safety. Over the years, it has become apparent that the NRC is clearlyIN-BED with the nuclear industry in the push to certify the old nuclear plants for an additional 20-years of operation. The NRC is clearly engaged in a great nuclear experiment with public health and safety hanging in the balance
Over the normal 40-year life of these nuclear reactors, the constant bombardment of the stainless steel reactor vessel by high-level nuclear radiation causes the vessel to become brittle and very susceptible to cracking. Should one of these vessels crack, the nuclear plant would be required to declare aGeneral Emergency and evacuate the facility and the immediate area and surrounding communities. This type of nuclear accident is known as a “Loss-of-Coolant” accident and will result in a complete melt-down of the nuclear reactor, the surrounding nuclear structure, and has a very great potential for an explosion from within the containment building which houses the nuclear reactor due to the buildup of explosive gases during the melt-down. Such an explosion would spew highly radioactive particles into the environment where children play and attend school. The prevailing winds would carry the deadly radioactive particles for thousands of miles and even into other countries around the world. Forget about any meaningful evacuation of the public – most of these nuclear power plants are located very close to major cites. ……….
The solution of course is for the United States Government – led by the Obama administration to focus our country’s resources in further development, manufacture, and installation of solar power, wind power, fuel cells, biomass, thermal power, etc.
