Fears over nuclear waste dumping in UK
New fears over nuclear waste site LEP.co.uk 04 December 2009
Concerns have been raised that radioactive rubbish from across the UK will be dumped on the outskirts of a Lancashire city.SITA UK wants permission for waste from more companies to be disposed of at Clifton Marsh.
But councillors are worried this will mean nuclear rubbish from all over the country being buried in Lancashire…………..Couns Margaret McManus and Pauline Brown, both members of the council’s environmental scrutiny panel, asked where the waste would be coming from.
And Coun McManus said: “I’ve lost two husbands, both with cancer. One went backwards and forwards to Freckleton Marsh. I have great concerns with transport.”……….Coun Brown said she was concerned material may leak out.
