Dangerous burden of nuclear power

Cost of nuclear power is too great a burden THE NATION (Thailand) by GARETH CLAYTON BANGKOK October 30, 2009 “……..danger of accidents from nuclear power stations.
These dangers are real. The industry is plagued by a steady stream of accidents, many of them leading to leaks of radioactive materials into the environment. But this is not the only reason to be concerned about proposals to expand nuclear power.

We have seen clearly in recent years the link between nuclear power technology and nuclear weapons. It is no longer a debating point that nuclear technology opens up the potential to a country to obtain nuclear weapons both through the technical know-how and because the raw materials are the same for the power and weapons applications……..
………The present government would not allow the development of nuclear weapons. But we only have to look back a few years to see how suddenly the government in Thailand can change…………waste disposal issue is a long-term problem and no viable solution has been found despite the effort gone into looking.

Nuclear power is not a soft energy route; it is a hard one, and should be rejected.
