“Because western media are designed to protect the powerful, most people are more aware of smears about Assange being a Russian agent or a rapist than of his victimization by a tyrannical assault on world press freedoms…”

1. Assange’s imprisonment is a political act to punish him and to deter others from exposing the state crimes of the UK and the USA. He should be freed immediately.
2. Why is this in Nuclear News?
3. If Assange deserves reportage, why not also the many journalists imprisoned elsewhere, such as in China which apparently has at least 47 behind bars for reporting state crimes?

1. Yes
2 It’s in nuclear news because Assange exposed military abuses . Also because Assange and Wikileaks set up a courageous new form of journalism, of global significance. If the world’s most powerdul nation can permanently silence Assange, they can silence any of us.
3. You are right. It is hard to find news on press freedom etc in China, and in other countries, especially non-English speaking countries. Also – a personal reason – as an Australian, I am outraged that my government boasts of helping Australians imprisoned overseas – murderers and drug dealers – yet will not lift a finger toi help Assange.
I have heard that Assange supports nuclear power, though I don’t know that this is true. Anyway it doesn’t matter,
