TEPCO tried to cover up evidence that earthquake, not tsunami, caused nuclear disaster

“(TEPCO’s explanation) was absolutely false and seriously obstructed the investigation,” Mitsuhiko Tanaka, a former member of the now-disbanded Diet commission, said in a statement submitted to the chiefs of the two Diet chambers on Feb. 7.

[Tepco] blocked an attempt by a Diet-appointed panel to enter the No. 1 reactor building at the Fukushima Daiichi complex for an accident investigation last year, saying the unit was “in complete darkness,” which was not true, a member of the panel said Thursday.

The panel members were seeking to determine whether important equipment of the No. 1 reactor had suffered damage as a result of the earthquake on March 11, 2011, before ensuing tsunami ravaged the plant […] Continue reading

Audio: Fukushima nuclear disaster set off by earthquake, not tsunami

as to the mystery of the reactor one building and the possibility
that it was damaged before the tsunami hit, in its report the
parliamentary panel found that there was a possibility that pipes had

Physics professor Michio Kaku, of the City University of New York: This is a game changer. It means that we may have to rewrite all the textbooks on earthquakes. […]

It’s even more unpredictable. Even an innocent fault off the coast of Fukushima can sustain a 9.0 monster quake, when by rights there should not be a 9.0. In some sense we’re back to the dark ages, realizing that off the coast of the U.S. even an innocent fault may sustain a monster 9.0. […]

Also the citing of nuclear power plants; It means that if a nuclear power plant is near a fault line, and the fault line appears to be innocent, it could actually be storing up energy over many cycles.

Host: I thought you were going to come here and make us feel better about earthquakes. […]

Kenichi Ido, former judge: As I think there is now an urgent need to evacuate the children from the radioactive zones, I have been active as one of the defense lawyers for the Fukushima Collective Evacuation Trial.

I cannot help worrying about the future of children in Fukushima.

There have already been signs of a major health hazard.

Under the current situation, I think the children of Fukushima may fall into a situation like that of the children of Ukraine and Belarus, where only 20% of the children are considered healthy.
Such a danger exists in Fukushima.

In the 60s, government documents noted contents from the rusting barrels were seeping into nearby Coldwater Creek. VIDEO: France’s war for uranium and other resources in Mali

see-this.way(Video) Niger uranium plays key role in France’s Mali war: Douglas Degroot Press TV 4 Feb 13, An analyst says maintaining access to the vast uranium resources in Mali’s eastern neighbor Niger, the world’s fifth-largest producer of uranium, has played a key role in the French-led war on Mali.
The comment comes as Thousands of people in Mali have been forced to flee their homes amid the French war, which involved some 3,500 troops on the ground supported by warplanes, helicopters and armored vehicles.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said more than 5,000 Malian refugees have arrived in Mauritania alone since January 11, when France launched the war under the pretext of halting the advance of the fighters in the African country.

Analysts believe behind the military campaign are Mali’s untapped resources, including oil, gold, as well as the uranium in the region.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Douglas Degroot in Leesburg with the Executive Intelligence Review weekly magazine. A rough transcription of the interview follows. …….

The initial thing it seems to be trying to preserve their access to the uranium in Niger and that’s why they are trying to get Niger and Mali stabilized whether they can even do that of course is also a question ….http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/02/04/287299/niger-uranium-plays-key-role-in-mali-war/

AUDIO: Nuclear Regulatory Commission prevents public participation in nuclear re-licensing process

Hear-This-wayAUDIO http://www.fairewinds.org/content/games-people-play   THE GAMES PEOPLE PLAY In this week’s podcast, Fairewinds looks at how difficult it is for the public to meaningfully participate in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s licensing process.  Arnie Gundersen was retained by Friends of the Earth to assess major problems at the San Onofre nuclear plant in California that have caused a year long shutdown.  Arnie met with the NRC this week concerning  his analysis of what went wrong and how the problems were foreseeable.  In this podcast, Arnie discusses how the NRC and Southern California Edison deliberately withheld information to make his technical analysis more difficult to accomplish.  Fairewinds taped the meeting, so our podcast listeners can hear for themselves the difficulties Arnie encountered and the games the NRC and Southern California Edison played to prevent his participation.

Films awaken Indian audiences to the dangers of the nuclear industry

logo-uranium-film-festivalUranium Film Festival: Capturing Fallout   Tehelka Blog, 17 Jan 13 Author:  “I am now in this place where you should never come. We call it Onkalo. Onkalo means ‘hiding place’. In my time it is not yet finished, though work began in the 20th century, when I was just a child. Work will be completed in the 22nd century, long after my death. Onkalo must last 100,000 years. Nothing built by man has lasted even a tenth of that timespan. But we consider ourselves a very potent civilisation. If we succeed, Onkalo will most likely be the longest lasting remains of our civilisation. If you, sometime far in the future, find this, what would it tell you about us?”

Thus begins Into Eternity, Danish director Michael Madsen’s documentary about the Onkalo spent nuclear waste repository on the island of Oikiluoto in Finland. In 1994, the legislature amended the Finnish Nuclear Energy Act to specify that all nuclear waste produced in Finland must be disposed of in Finland. The solution was the repository, a deep cavern to be filled with radioactive waste that is designed to hold for ten half lives – in some cases, as long as 250,000 years – the accepted timespan for such waste to be considered safe.

Obvious geological fears aside, the fear that Madsen taps into in this film is that of communicating to future civilisations that the contents of this cavern they would find are very toxic Continue reading
