TODAY. Danger of a nuclear catastrophe as Ukraine sends missiles to Kursk area in Russia

We keep getting told how very dangerous it is for the Russians to be sending drones and now missiles into Ukraine, above all, because they might hit  Zaporizhzhia and other nuclear facilities. And yes, this is true, (although the Russians have been relatively restrained, so far, about use of missiles).

We all do know how awful this war is, and what radiological devastation would be released, if the Russians, or the Ukrainians, struck the  Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station, the largest in Europe. Rafael Grossi of the International Atomic Energy regularly reminds us of that danger, – (while almost simultaneously touting nuclear power stations as so very safe, and the essential cure for climate change.)

But what we don’t hear about – in our the media’s joyous promotion of a Ukrainian victory over Russia,- is the grave danger posed by American and British missiles fired by the Ukrainians into the Russian area of Kursk.

All sorts of “good reasons” for the Ukrainians doing this – to lower the morale of Russians, to destroy masses of North Korean troops gathering in the area, to hold onto a piece of Russian land as a bargaining chip if ever there’s a negotiation with Russia.

But no mention of Kursk nuclear power station, with its four Soviet RBMK-1000 reactors. The 2 operating reactors have no protective dome.– the same design as those at the Chernobyl nuclear plant which in 1986 became the scene of the world’s worst civilian nuclear disaster. Construction of the Kursk-2 power plant is under way, using essentially new reactors of the VVER-510 type, which began in 2018.  The Kursk NPP is among the three largest nuclear facilities in the country.

In August 2024, the remains of a Ukrainian drone were found within the area of the Kursk nuclear power plant, located roughly 100 metres (328 feet) from the plant’s spent fuel nuclear storage facility.

Ukraine fired at least 10 British-provided Storm Shadow missiles into Russia’s Kursk Oblast, The Wall Street Journal and several other media outlets reported on Wednesday.

You have to look to alternative media, to get any grip on what is happening in this conflict. Dave DeCamp , writes in ANTIWAR:

The US and the UK reportedly authorized Ukraine’s use of the Storm Shadows in strikes on Russian territory after President Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to use the ATACMS, US-made missiles with a range of about 190 miles. Ukraine launched ATACMS into Russia for the first time on Tuesday.

Both the Storm Shadows and ATACMS require intelligence from Western countries for Ukraine to fire them, meaning the US and NATO are now directly supporting long-range strikes on Russian territory. 

Our corporate Western media continues with its sacred utterance that “Ukraine must and will defeat Russia”. We never hear about the previous 8 long years of the Ukraine government’s war against its own region in the Donbass, a largely Russian-speaking region, which wanted to keep its autonomous status, supposedly guaranteed by the Minsk agreements . All this precipitated Russia’s action in February 2022. Zelensky was originally elected on a platform of honouring this agreement and negotiating with Russia.

But I digress.

The thing is, we are not being told the truth about this war. And Kursk is a kind of flashpoint that the Western mindset apparently does not understand.

The battle of Kursk

It is ironic that the battle of Kursk in 1943, the single largest battle in the history of warfare , is regarded as the “last gasp of Nazi aggression“. The Nazis invaded Kursk, but were defeated by the Russian forces. Russia lost an estimated 800,00 casualties. This battle, along with the Battle of Stalingrad several months earlier, is regarded as a turning point in World War 2.

It is sad, that in recent commemorations of World War 2, the role of Russia in defeating the Nazis is somehow erased. Oh well, we know from Hollywood’s portrayal of this war, it was the Americans who beat the Nazis.

NATO supports the missile attacks on Russian territory. It is possible that Kursk – the scene of a huge defeat of the 1943 German Nazi war machine, – could now be destroyed by the NATO-USA war machine, which includes Germany

TODAY. Time to ban Israeli sporting teams, just as the world banned South African teams in the 1970s

The Western corporate media has done a terrific job in depicting Israeli hooligans in Amsterdam as victims of anti-semitism . We must hand it to the media for yet again depicting Zionists as the victims.

What happened in Amsterdam has been reported documented and videoed by those on the ground there. A November 8 video report by a 16-year-old who publishes YouTube reports under the moniker “Bender” provided extensive on-the-ground footage of a mob of armed Tel Aviv Maccabi ultras hunting victims, throwing metal poles at police vehicles, threatening journalists, and even being detained after attacking undercover police officers. 

These were Israelis who travelled to Amsterdam ahead of the Uefa Europa League match against Amsterdam club Ajax, and provoked clashes with  pro-Palestinian protesters. Ahead of match on Thursday, fans heading to the Johan Cruyff Arena stadium were seen shouting: “Let the IDF [Israeli army] fuck the Arabs”. After the match ,and later into the night, the Israelis provoked fights with the pro-Palestine youths.

The Gaza known death toll now approaches 44.000 – the media continues to report this as “reported by Hamas” – implying that perhaps we shouldn’t believe that number. In reality, with the unknown bodies beneath the rubble, the number would be much greater.

Yes, Jews have been the victims, over time – with the European pograms, culminating in the holocaust. Like some abused children, the Zionists have grown up to become the abusers, believing in an apartheid system, wherein Jews are the superior beings, and Arabs the inferiors.

In the 1970s and 80’s, the world condemned South Africa’s despicable regime of white superiority, and people in many countries took action, banning South South African goods. Musicians and artists boycotted South Africa, even some banks stopped lending to South Africa. And most painful of all, to the “superior” white South Africans, they were excluded from excluding sporting events, particularly football.

Not that this exclusion put an end to apartheid. Black South Africans, and eventually white ones too, did this. But the movement to end apartheid was greatly helped by international protest and action. The sporting boycott was symbolic of rejection of apartheid.

It is so appropriate, that South Africa is now leading the charge, in international law. South Africa filed 750 pages of “overwhelming” proof that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands. South Africa got rid of its apartheid policy, and now wants Zionist apartheid to end, too.

I am quite proud that my country, Australia, was prominent and outspoken in its banning of apartheid South Africa from sporting events. Now, Australia is joining 158 other countries in backing UN resolution recognising ‘permanent sovereignty’ of Palestinians.

It’s time to recognise who are the victims of the Zionist regime – and it’s not the Zionists – much as the media portrays them as victims.

Time to exclude Israeli sporting teams.

Rafael Gross’ and the IAEA’s breath-taking hypocrisy , as the nuclear lobby revs up for COP 28.

There is no limit to their bravado and hypocrisy. They know that nuclear power is really for the weapons industry. They know it is not really safe. That it emits radiation – causes cancer. That there’s no solution for its eternal toxic wastes. That it is obscenely expensive.

And – they know that even if nuclear works against climate change (which it doesn’t), it would never be up and running in time to make any difference, as climate change is upon us now.

Does that stop these shameless hypocrites?

“In his opening statement to the IAEA’s Board of Governors today, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi spoke of the importance of food security in a world where hunger is on the rise, and in many cases is worsening due to climate change. 

“Over the past three years the number of people who go hungry in the world has increased by almost a fifth,” Mr Grossi said in his statement to the Board, which is meeting at the IAEA’s Vienna headquarters from 22­-24 November. The IAEA and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have joined forces in response to this challenge. Mr Grossi and FAO Director General Qu Dongyu  launched Atoms4Food at the World Food Forum last month in Rome. The joint initiative aims to increase global food security and tackle growing hunger through the use of nuclear techniques………..

COP28

Looking ahead to the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai next month, Mr Grossi noted the growing global momentum on nuclear energy. “For the first time in the history of COP, nuclear countries will be able to say ‘yes, we are here, yes nuclear energy is part of the solution for this global climate crisis that we have’.”

The IAEA will showcase initiatives such as Atoms4NetZero and Atoms4Food at COP28 as well as other aspects of its work in helping the world monitor, mitigate and adapt to climate change.

TODAY . COP 29 global climate summit – already a dead duck.

In the midst of all the brouhaha about the election of a deranged narcissist to be in charge of America, we must remember what is really the biggest danger to our Earth – climate change – global heating

 The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), will take place from November 11 to 22 in 2024 at Baku Stadium, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024.

There will be good people there, and I’m not rubbishing their work.

Still, at the top level, corporate greed will be running the show.

FIRST. to start with, the host, Azerbaijan- is a massive exporter of oil and gas, – global fossil fuel lobbyists will be welcome there and money will be splurged on an attractive greenwash of the dirtiest industries

SECOND. As if having the fossil fuel industries in control was not bad enough, we have their close mate, the nuclear industry, jumping on the bandwagon, with its lucrative claims about “solving” the climate crisis .

THIRD. Politics international. Ursula von der Leyen, the big cheese of the European Commission, will not be attending. Nor will France’s Emmanuel Macron, the current US president, Joe Biden, and the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, . The leaders of China, South Africa, Japan and Australia are expected to miss the talks as well. This sends a clear message that climate change is not a concern for top world leaders

THIRD. American politics now. I’m not a fan of Joe Biden, but the Biden administration deserves credit . The U.S. Inflation Reduction Act has been successful in promoting truly clean energy (even though it does contain sops to the nuclear industry). Many Americans have now become painfully aware of the extreme effects of global heating, and the USA’s clean energy success will be hard for the climate deniers to unravel. But still, in January, Trump’s climate denial administration will take over, and this fact does cast a damper on COP29.

We know that there are millions of people who are dedicated to the cause of a clean world, and of stopping global heating. We are up against the globally amoral corporateaucracy .

TODAY. The Trump period and the use of language

I struggle to think about what language to use.

Today, Caitlin Johnstone writes “The Evil Warmongering Zionist Won” – (No Not That One, The Other One)

I read her article, and agree with every word. But do some readers find this title a “turnoff”? I did, because I was brung up to believe that quieter, less emotive language was the way to go. Now, I’m not sure.

The people of world’s greatest power have elected a foul-mouthed, misogynist, deluded megalomaniac who is a convicted felon, strongly supported by another deluded billionaire megalomaniac the ketamine-and-Mars addled Elon Musk. Trump is surrounded by yes-mean of no integrity whatsoever, and promoted by billionaires of no integrity.

How did it happen?

How did they put it over not only the disgruntled poor of the USA, but many others – to believe that if times are bad now – this despicable sociopath could magically put things right?

By now, some of my very limited reading public will have turned away – because of my use of language. But I’m not as “bad” as Caitlin. Trouble is – we’re actually telling the truth.

It is going to be very hard now, for all of us to weave our way through all the commentaries – all made more difficult by the tsunami of social media, of the ‘respectable mainstream media’ and of AI.

I wish that I could give wonderful advice on how to assess the truth or otherwise, of what we read, see and hear. But there are people of integrity out there, and it is our job to find them and listen to them – and indeed , to avoid emotive language (when possible).

TODAY. Canadians are waking up to the nuclear scam. Why are the media and other nations pretending that nuclear is just dandy?

I do read quite a few criticisms of the nuclear industry, from various non-profit groups. But lately, there’s a whole heap of them from Canada. And the unnerving thing is that these pesky Canadians are giving “chapter and verse” – facts and figures on how bad things really are, for the nuclear industry.

Of course, the Canadian, and indeed, the global nuclear lobby too, are pretending not to notice this. (But they must be a tad worried, lest too many intelligent people in other countries catch on to this annoying attention to detail)

Susan O’Donnell writes about New Brunswick’s nuclear fantasies – the history of successive governments pouring tax-payers’ money into “advanced” reactor designs that are known by reputable scientists to be commercially unviable. -The Higgs government passing legislation forcing NB Power to buy electricity, at any price, from SMRs if they are ever built and actually work.

The companies involved have been unable to entice private investors, and are unlikely to get federal funding. NB Power’s $5.4-billion debt is mainly due to the poor performance of its Point Lepreau nuclear reactor. New Brunswickers are facing a 19.4 per cent increase in electricity rates. “Keeping the Point Lepreau and SMR fantasies alive will require considerable effort from the new government. “

They raise such awkward questions about “Ontario’s journey to becoming an energy superpower”

But then, I forgot that this comes from Seniors. And I’ve just remembered that the nuclear industry is all about the young cool and trendy.

There are so many views from Canadians exploding the nuclear propaganda. And they’re not all old fogeys.

Weep for Gaza, the Palestinians, weep for the Jews

It has now become so horrible – is the world turning away? Is it atrocity fatigue?

Look at the courage of the Jewish people in B’Tselem –  The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, based in Jerusalem. If they have the guts to speak out – why is everybody else – especially the Biden administration and the corporate media pretending it’s all OK?

As I’ve pointed out before – there was some excuse for the Western world pretending not to notice the atrocity- the genocide – going on in Germany 1936 – 1945, because it was not so widely known – no big media coverage in the press and radio then available.

There’s no excuse now – with extraordinary journalistic evidence coming out daily – first hand videos, audios, – the courage of ordinary people and those few journalists still able to report from Gaza. Israel stops journalists from entering Gaza, and kills those who are there.

Apart from the small matter of Israel’s military aggression leading to World War 3, the Israeli government’s systematic killing of Gazans has reached a point where it is so horrendous and should be stopped now while there are still some Gazans left.

How can the world continue to believe the blitherings of Blinken and Biden?

Biden could stop the Gaza killings today – could stop supplying the weapons to Israel

Apart from the horrors suffered by the Palestinians right now – what’s going to happen to the Jews after all this?

In the USA, we have the absurdity of the arresting of Jews who protested against this Gaza genocide – and these Jews are being called “anti-semitic”.

In fact – anti-semitism is on the rise – because people are confusing the barbarity of the Netanyahu government with true Jewish religion.

While many of us – distant onlookers – feel for the suffering of the Palestinians – we may later also feel for Jews worldwide – perhaps victims of a new wave of anti-semitism.

TODAY. Behind the really nasty “NICE” nuclear energy push to control the November COP Climate Change Conference.

Prepare to be dangerously greenwashed.”

The billionaires and other manipulators have been planning this for years

Their goal is to direct United Nations policy, and the finances for climate action, towards the nuclear industry . Their motives are mixed, but MONEY is the big one.

The 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP29, will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11 to 22 November, 2024. 

The nuclear push is led by a relatively small phalanx of wealthy, powerful individuals – not many in number, compared to the many thousands of people who have qualms about the nuclear lobby running the show at Azerbaijan . But of course, the nuke lobby will be helped along by the fossil fuel giants. If nuclear is accepted as the cure for climate change, there will be a delay of decades for nuclear power to get going again – which means that oil, gas, coal will have full sway.

Nuclear and fossil fuel energies are partners in this crime against our planet.

Even at the 2015 COP  Paris Climate Agreement, nuclear ‘influencers’ like Ernest Moniz and Bill Gates were touting the plan – nuclear as the cheap way to fund climate action. A plan quickly taken up by Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Marc Benioff (Salesforce), Michael Bloomberg, Richard Branson, Jack Ma (Alibaba), David Rubenstein (Carlyle Group), Tom Steyer, George Soros, and Mark Zuckerberg – forming the Breakthrough Institute

Now it was time to really go for the tax-payers’ money, as Bill Gates launched Mission Innovation – to “increase government support” for new generation nuclear technologies. Mission Innovation involves 24 national governments, including the USA, Canada, China and India, the World Economic Forum, the International Energy Agency, and the World Bank.

Joyce Nelson has outlined the development of this “nuclear for climate” push, kicking off the new enthusiasm for small nuclear reactors, especially in Canada, around 2018. No surprise that the scandal-ridden company SNC-Lavalin jumped onto this bandwagon, forming a consortium the Canadian National Energy Alliance (CNEA)

By 2018, Gates was launching Breakthrough Energy Europe, a collaboration with the European Commission. In 1919 Canada hosted the Clean Energy Ministerial/Mission Innovation summit launching NICE -the “Nuclear Innovation Clean Energy Future”

M.V. Ramana warned in advance of the summit, “Note to Ministers from 25 countries: Prepare to be dangerously greenwashed.”

I doubt that the COP 29 summit has any credibility with intelligent people. Held in Azerbaijan, one of the world’s worst petrochemical autocracies, this supposed climate action meeting will be one blatant front for the fossil fuel lobby, as well as the nuclear one.

Sad to have the United Nations sponsoring this pack of liars.

TODAY. All the way with AI – up, up, then -into the abyss?

In Australia – way back – we used to say “All the way with USA!”. (We still do – can’t help it – it’s our “cultural cringe” – we think we’re a bit stupid).s

But sorry – all the way with AI doesn’t rhyme – which makes the whole thing even gratingly worse.

I’ve been alerted to this global problem by the wonderful article “ Is it worse to have no climate solutions – or to have them but refuse to use them?“, by the heretical Rebecca Solnit. In a previous era, she would have been burnt at the stake. Probably still will be, the way things are going.

At least she’ll have company- there are bound to be many deaths as wildfires become more prevalent and more severe. Yes, I’m talking about climate change – that boring old subject, which shouldn’t get a mention in the media, while we obsess over important stuff, Trump’s caps, and childless cat ladies.

It’s not as if Rebecca Solnit is telling us anything new, really. We all know that big leaps in technology are led by ambitious, technically brilliant, highly competitive men. Somehow or other, we revere these men, even though some of them clearly have a strangely lop-sided cognitive state -with a deficit in integrity and ethics.

That’s why “progress” from way back, then through the industrial revolution, and now the digital revolution has been accompanied by shocking exploitation of millions of people . It’s been the ill-treatment of “the working class”, of indigenous peoples – to develop mines, and progress in transport and modern industries, and of course, in warfare. But still we admired and followed the “captains of industry” who led us all into the mixed bag of “progress”

Today’s captains of industry – Musk, Gates, Bezos, Zuckerberg – and about 7 more digital champions are headed towards becoming trillionaires – with many other clever technical billionaires in the running, too. Along with their obscene wealth goes their power and influence over governments , education, and media.

Rebecca Solnit brings something different to this discussion. She simply points out, using the example of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt  – the mindset that we should not worry about climate change – we should go ahead with AI because somehow Artificial Intelligence will solve the problem.

As Solnit says “decoy is the new denial” , meaning that “we ignore workable present-day solutions in favor of unworkable and nonexistent ones while continuing to burn fossil fuel.”

We know that the solutions are there – thousands of scientists are telling us. But these thousands of men, and women, too – have more normal brains, including qualities of integrity and ethics, and the ability to look at the total picture, and imagine the future.

Sorry, but to me, the tech squillionaires are looking increasingly like the Christian religious figures of the past – who frightened the public with fears of burning in hell, and then sold the public “indulgences” that were supposed to save them from hell.
